DeGoey re-signing has saved us from ourselves. I'm positive about this as it forces us to the Draft and stops bandaid fixes. The list needs an overhaul, not one messiah player.

Focus our energy on:

• Pick 7.
• Long's deal.
• Hill's deal.
• Clark's deal (if the Coaches have lost faith).
• Packaging the Long, Hill, Clark picks and moving up the Draft again.

3 picks in the Top 30.

How has not nabbing a free agent forced us to the draft

I generally agree, with regards to going into line coaching without going elsewhere first
Although reckon players can stick around at the same club in development roles for a year or two

Yeah I didn't expect Pick 9. Obviously a first rounder would be a starting point if the question was asked though. I certainly wouldn't respond to suggestion of a 3rd round pick. The bulk of the development work is done. He'll be ready for consistent AFL time next year I think, and I'd actually prefer we kept him; he and Draper will make an awesome 1-2 punch and Wright wouldn't have to ruck.

Anyway, responses here make it seem like a 2nd rounder is probably more appropriate from your end. If Bryan wants out, of course I hope Dodoro squeezes a first out of you. A late first would be great.

I think we need a proper FB and proper game plan with structures. Then draft and draft again. We're better than 10th but can't stop underachieving.

Bloody hell if JDG has actually re-signed and we're not going after the Bowes/Pick 7 deal then we may gain absolutely nothing from the trade/FA period. The other useful players on the move have already nominated clubs and I doubt we'll be getting much in return for Long. Hill and Clark are more valuable to us than the 2nd/3rd round picks likely offered up for them as well.

Don't know why we wouldn't use the JDG/Ben King
