In a footballing sense I'm bummed to miss him because he's exactly what we needed. Explosive match winner.

The question mark on him for me was his consistency. As someone points out above, he's not a consistent performer yet. So the big contract was a risk.

I'm glad we had a crack because he was a free agent and we lost nothing. And it was fun to follow for a few days.

Predicting a quiet trade period now. Bowes comes down to who he chooses and with nearly every team after him (and pick 7) I think it's a long shot.

Yeah it would have given us a nice little hit of dopamine if he’d picked us, but let’s be honest here, he doesn’t even play consistently well at Collingwood, a club he seems to love, so what were the chances of him playing consistently well for us, when he was basically just here for the money and because the club he really wanted to be at didn’t really trust him?

It almost certainly would have been a Brad Hill/Zac Jones type situation all over again and then there’s the risk he goes off the rails, and it’s not like he brings leadership to the table, or amazing character.

It obviously would have been great if he’d come here and it had worked out super-well, but what are the odds that that would have happened?

Not to mention thousands of Collingwood supporters with an axe to grind stalking him 24/7 hoping to record a scandal.

It would have been a nightmare for him & for us off field.

I think we've learned that the best way to get superstars is to draft them. For example, just off the top of my head, the Bulldogs taking Bont with pick 4 in 2013 or the Demons taking Petracca with pick 2 in 2014. We just need opportunities like that

Just dropped by to say the Saints dodged a bullet with De Gropey. He pulls the same trick every time he's up for a new contract - plays great for half a season and then drops back a gear as soon as it's signed. He's all flash, great on the highlights reel, but goes missing for long periods of games.

Just for the record stav told this exact scenario on a PM about three weeks ago.

The prevailing view from the industry was that team DeGoey would play hardball on the behaviour clauses but they would eventually come to a compromise.

But yeah he just throws darts. No wonder he doesn't post his info on here anymore.

Disappointed he isn’t coming - even if I brought into the hype from the media.

He is a gun.

But the club needs to be sensible here

He's an inconsistent gun. He's like a half arsed Dusty. We need leadership and guys to lead our youth into 100% effort 100% of the time. He's a shocking role model on and off the field for that. He adds a bit of flash to a vanilla list but he's just as likely to **** up and be delisted before seeing out his first year as he is to deliver us finals success.

It was a gamble even taking him. It would have been nice to get him but now just need to focus on improving what we have instead of lusting after others.
