Why are people still talking about 7 and Bowes? Aren't we basically ruled out of that?
Pretty sure Ralph is the only one to have said it so far?

Still seen him linked to us quite a few times since.

We'd be mad not to be trying to get him to at least meet with us

Didn't know it was only Ralph.

Would be a fantastic deal to try and get in on, especially with Long already heading up there.

Any chance someone can fire up the Horne-Francis rumours again to get some more false hope going??
It’s not a rumour, heard a woman talking at the Cooladdi road house that Horne-Francis to St Kilda is a done thing, the whole town is talking it up.

Footnote: might be worth googling Cooladdi population, just to see how big a story it is.

Good to know. Now to move on. Plenty of money we can spare it seems, which puts us in a good spot regardless.

Glad we made the Pies offer him a big contract. They’ve got a beautiful recent history of blundering those.

He'll be begging to come to us in two years when he stuffs up and is sacked or when Pies decide they can't afford him anymore and are chasing someone new and sparkly...

....and in our desperation to land a "star' we'll probably take him, two years older and considerably worse for wear....you know it's true!

The talk was that Geelong have offered a really well spelled out vision for him and were keen on him before the pick 7 came up. Are set to offer 4 years and spread his wages out over that time rather than pay $850 pa x2.

I've gone back and watched some of his vision. He's actually a bit better than I remembered. I wouldn't think he'd be a liability. Takes players on and gets around them and looks a good kick. I think he'd be an upgrade on Hunter Clark at this stage. He's probably ahead of him.
I haven't had my coffee this morning, but am I missing something here ... was owed $850 pa x 2 years, but now they're going to pay him the SAME amount spread over 4 years? Why would he take that?

Spot on. As a free agent and at 26 he would have backfilled the lack of development we managed with a Newnes-type.
The way Crouch backfilled Dunstan as the big bodied midfielder that didn't come on without impacting our trade hand.
Well, no use crying over what could have been...its what / if anything is going to happen now that counts.

he wouldn't
I am assuming they'd add an extra amount, say another 5/6k to what he's owed and then split the entire amount.
Is it legal to re-jig the terms of his original contract to suit another club?

With Bowes I also thought that they want to eliminate the back ended element of his current contract, so they want 1.7 million paid up within the first two years regardless of how the contract might get restructured.

Wonder if it's worth a look at Lewis Taylor as some small forward depth?

Just delisted by the Swans...

The amount needs to be paid. But you can extend his deal and reduce the hit in year 1 and 2 - which would require a bigger deal overall to entice him to agree to it

I think we've learned that the best way to get superstars is to draft them. For example, just off the top of my head, the Bulldogs taking Bont with pick 4 in 2013 or the Demons taking Petracca with pick 2 in 2014. We just need opportunities like that
I was having a good day and ya come in and say that shit

Whole weekend ruined now

that's how I understand it too. So can make it $2.3 over 4 years for example if he's happy with that

Well, then there’s 17 teams that can do that.
Extend the deal out to however many years you’re comfortable with if that’s the case, and so minimise the impact on your TPP.
There must be another constraint otherwise we’d be having 17 teams linked to the deal, rather than just the four or so with salary cap room.

No thank you very much. I'd much rather take a punt on other DFAs'. Ely Smith, Liam Stocker, Callum Brown, Quinton Narkle, Sam Skinner, Jackson Nelson all available in that space.

I would seriously consider matching Geelongs offer for Bowes plus another year based on performance triggers. Whatever it takes to get him to agree to come over. You dont get very many opportunities for top 10 draft picks like this

Still nothing on Collingwood's website...

Any bet its another stinker from some half cut journo
Its Over GIF
