Extend the deal out to however many years you’re comfortable with if that’s the case, and so minimise the impact on your TPP.
There must be another constraint otherwise we’d be having 17 teams linked to the deal, rather than just the four or so with salary cap room.

The player has to agree to the deal.

It ultimately means he gets paid more money.

As a hypothetical.

If he is owed 1.3m over the next 2. = 650k per year.

You can agree to pay him $1.5m over 3 = 500k per year.

I don’t know what he is owed. I’m just making an example

If De Goey is performing on field, why does anyone care what he does outside of football?

Save us from ourselves is a bit of a stretch. Clark wanted to stay, De Goey is arguably the Pies best player and was willing to leave a side that finished a bees dick from a GF to come to us.

Do they make us better, yes or no. It's as simple as that for me. I'm tired of waiting for a premiership.

De goey at the Saints would have been a nightmare. He’s looser than people think which is crazy to think about.

I wasn’t too big of a fan off the no dickhead policy we had csuse we need a bit of campaigner about ourselves but even for me he goes a step too far.

Could it have worked out, sure but I just didn’t like the odds.

Bit of a moot point since he ain’t coming, but I 100% care.

It’s all well and good to turn a blind eye until it crosses a line, and DeGoey has been flirting with that line his whole career. I don’t want to win a flag if doing so means we turn that blind eye.

Now, for DeGoey’s and everyone else’s sake I hope he never crosses that line and we can all just enjoy the damn football he plays.

Look at the Hawks right now with the Clarko allegations for example. If those are proven true, then those flags are heavily tainted, and many of their fans have voiced that their enjoyment of those flags is now tarnished (if the allegations are true). I don’t want to compare DeGoey to what happened at the Hawks, but my point is that, there is a line and footballer’s ain’t above it, and neither are flags IMO.

We don’t deserve a flag if we have to blur lines to get it. I don’t care if we only have one flag, you can’t let desperation debase the club, and I don’t think we get anywhere by ignoring what our players do off-field (if it’s crossing the line ofc).

It’s a tricky discussion, but culturally speaking we should be creating an environment of leaders and good players. Doesn’t mean you can’t have fun and go wild on the weekend, but there’s a common sense to that as a professional which you don’t cross.

We need to as sensibly as possible try and convince Bowes to join up. My hope is he hasn't come out and said where he wants to go officially. Maybe that helps us.

Wouldn't mind the club giving some more positive news today. Maybe announce new additions to the Football Department? Might take the sting of disappointment away for a bit.

Yes, but not my point.
If the contract can be varied, there are 17 teams capable of pitching for him.
Depending on how much importance each places on #7, and you’d imagine there’s not much difference between them.
In other words, if Geelong can vary the contract so can any of the other 16 teams.
So this whole media beat up about only teams with SC room being in the chase is b/s.
