Clark wants to get to North no doubt, he might still feel that way next year. Do we risk it and North Finish bottom again and they'll have the upper hand as they can walk him to the pre season draft, and we take some second rounder as they did with the Freo guy.. I say pull the trigger and get the top 3 pick and future second. This is a big decision to make, but i think if player a wants out because coaches put some heat on him to get better it's probably a great opportunity to get a top shelf player. Tough Call.

Have to get their future second as well though..
Will still be contracted next year. Next year is year four of a five year deal.

Theres also the individual consideration for how to deliver tough feedback. Its not the 80's anymore and not everyone respond to a rocket/spray.

If Hunter is the sort that needs a quiet word and encouragement rather than a bake then the coaches (who spend everyday with him) should know this.

Its the coaching panels job to know how to best talk to players to get them moving and thats not always a tough chat. Id think especially in Hunters case with so many interruptions from freak collision incidents he might need a pat on the back and some encouragement over a spray (i also dont know him and could be way off).

Unless we get a top 10 pick for him id rather we hold onto him, hes shown glimpses through alot of horrific injuries, he still looks like hell come on to me.
Agree with that, but if Clark is the sensitive type, would it be in his best interest to go to a club that has Clarkson as a coach? The guy makes Ross Lyon look like a pussy cat, and he wasn't.

Would rather keep Clark as well TBH

Don’t reckon Ratts would have an 80’s spray in him.
All hearsay, but if true, combined with his blatant lack of effort in the gym, Hunter can go to Roos.

Give me more Windhagers who bake themselves, before the coach can even get to it. 🐂
I think he would, he was a tough as nails player, i think for the most part is whichever line coach has them most that would do that especially at the saints.

Fair point but i also think Clarkson mellowed alot in the later years and was more a "manager" than a coach (same as Hardwick now).

Personally given the current allegations i cant understand why ANYONE would want to go to North at the moment.

Physically tough ≠ verbally tough. Look at Lenny and Robert.
Doesn’t matter anyway, we shall see.
About time we held the whip hand, don’t f*ck it up fellas.

He was a first year player. Owens started in the mids in R1, Windy was in the mids in his first season constantly to the end of the season. Naz was constantly played in position. All three were played which make the other trope of not playing youngsters just another furphy.

Myth busted.

And perhaps Clark doesn't run though the guts like 19 y.o. rookie season players is that he hasn't the tank and that is the feedback he got not once but twice.

But apparently asking a player drafted to be a mid, to get fit enough to play mid is too confronting for him and he couldn't take the harsh realities that comes with a 400k a year job.

Or maybe he sees the writing on the wall, the youngsters are keen and hungry, and with another top quality mid coming in, he just doesn't have it in him to go the extra mile and do the work required to demand a mid spot.
I never said the young players weren’t playing i said that Windy on got played on ball because he was asked to tag. Prior to that he was stuck on a forward flank. Yes I have my worries about McKenzie being played on the ball

Clark has mostly played midfield in the last 2 years....him getting his head caved in then having his shoulder dislocated in a tackle then having his head caved in again must be poor player management....

I’d argue he hasn’t mostly been played there I’d say he’s been used very sparingly on the ball and when he had he’s usually been pretty good. Agree re injuries

Are we talking other teams trades here?

Can someone please explain to me how Brisbane (who just traded another pick for Gunston by the way) get Ashcroft, Fletcher (both expected to be top 15) and Dunkley?

Cause i cant see how on Earth they can make that work .

The first 2 are father sons. So they just need matching points.

Their future first and pick 21 for Dunkley apparently

We only have Daniel McKenzie, this draftee may not even get to us.

And I understand you didn't say youngsters don't get played, but that trope gets wheeled out along with the young players get played out of position.

In fact us playing Owens in the middle in R1 probably was a factor in us losing that game, he wasn't ready. Either was Windy, but by year end both were getting good numbers and good experience in the guts. Naz was not played out of position.

Actually not many were play out of position. Sharman was but equipped himself well. Hill was but it was because he disappointed on the wing and DMAC and Wood were just as effective, Battle actually found his best position after being tossed about.

if the recruit we get is a good mid, they will get played in position once that have a little bit of experience. This is what worries Clark I reckon, he hasn't cemented a mid spot in 5 years, sees these kids come in and start playing in there. Then he sooks when challenged to DEMAND a mid spot.

Why gift any player a spot when he wont put in the required work?

Im aware they are father sons but the points for them are pretty huge and they keep trading out picks.

They have 21 (which you correctly note would need to be used for Dunks although the dogs have said that deal wouldnt be enough) 34, 35, 36, 38, 55, 56, 73.

The draft pick calculator says that all of those (minus 21) totals 2441 points which is roughly equivalent to pick 3 alone. So if Ashcroft manages to slip to 3 (unlikely) they get him, if hes 2 they get him with a deficit. Fletcher they cant get at all.

They have 3612 points at present. Trading away 21 brings that down to 2734 which needs to be used for Ashcroft (likely bid on at 1 - 2400) and Fletcher (basically hoping no-one bids on him until pick 40). They can go into deficit next year, but given they will likely be there abouts, it would eat away both their 1st and 2nd for 2023.
