I’m hopeful that we’ll keep Clark. Wouldn’t trade him for #8. Bad luck has derailed his progress and he is potentially the mid we lack. I’m hopeful that Long stays too. Some improvement from within… Owens, Windy, NWM, Clark, Highmore, Sharman, Coffield etc and not having LTIs to key personnel will have a greater benefit than trading out guys with 4-5 years in the system for speculative picks.

You wouldn't take 8 for Clark , you must be kidding

They probably offered a third. We want their early second.
I would want the early second to use on my boy Archie Lovelock - will be the steal of the draft ("saints have got a beauty there").

IMO , Image being a past player and one of the so called tough guys in there side for years was called the junk yard dog by Lou Richards due to he would give anyone a good scrap , a bit like Bruce Doull but of course not in the same class as the flying Door mat , is found to be a transvestite.
--- and let it be known I don't care if there are whatever at any club but I would not be promoting it.
But no - the woke and political correct / think it's great but most would be hurt seeing a princess being promoted at the club that has a rich history.
Would that entice Phil Kelly to push his son to go and play for his former club.
There are plenty of reasons Players don't want to come to North, But this is not one of them

What do you mean by that Punter?

Seems most value Clark and Thomas around the same which I think is fair

Both showed plenty of potential early. Both stagnated due to different reasons. Both have had their knocks around how hard they work

I think for two players who many see as the same or similar, I would rather keep the one you had already put the work into. I've seen the effect Clark has had on games and the results of games when close to his best. If I was St Kilda, I would want to be overwhelmed with the offer for him to accept it.

Where’s that from?

How Saints will move on from Jordan De Goey

St Kilda’s ill-fated crack at luring Collingwood star Jordan De Goey has created an opportunity in their salary cap - but it hasn’t necessarily changed their plans for the trade period.

De Goey was a restricted free agent, meaning the Saints would have needed to cough up draft picks had he chosen them and the Pies matched the offer.

“For a player like that you need to be all in. We make no apologies about that,” St Kilda list boss James Gallagher said.

“We do have a little bit more room to move cap-wise going forward, absolutely, but it doesn’t change how we view our list and the next couple of weeks.

“We need to be pretty strategic with exactly what we do over the next few weeks.”

Evidently confident they can contend for the finals, there is no big name waiting to emerge in the hole left by De Goey and St Kilda want to keep the No.9 and No.28 picks in next month’s draft for themselves while seeking out other trades.

“There’s a couple of spots on our list we can improve immediately, so we’ll look at ways we can do that without compromising our early picks at the draft,” Gallagher said.

“We had a bit of success at the draft last year, we’d love to come out two or three more kids at the pointy end of the draft.

“Draft is a focus but we think there’s one or two players who could come in and really help us.”

The Saints are looking for another tall, citing a lack of depth following the retirement of Paddy Ryder and Darragh Joyce’s departure.

“We’ve got some emerging talls but I think a bit of support at either end will be really important for us. We’ve got a good group of talls but we’re just a bit skinny,” Gallagher said.

Hunter Clark has left the impression that he wants to stay despite real interest from North Melbourne.

The 23-year-old has one year left on his contract.

St Kilda said they have had no communication from the Kangaroos on Bradley Hill, however.

The Hawthorn premiership player has been a whipping boy at times since joining the Saints but he remains a required player.

“I’ve had plenty of open discussion with Brad about his footy and what he wants to achieve and how happy he is and where he wants to play his footy for the rest of his career. All indications are that’s at St Kilda,” Gallagher said.

“He’s played a lot of good footy for us but probably not been quite as consistent as we need him to be. In fairness, he had some mates this year there.

“There’s a lot more in Brad so we’d love to explore that and get him as close as he can to his best footy. He’s not easily replaceable, Brad, so that’s our intention at the moment.”

He has plenty of upside. Take pick #8 and start over with an 18 year old who could be a dud. No.. I wouldn’t do it.
Well I'm not waiting until hunter turns 28 before he realises that how his hair looks is not the most important thing in football

GC list manager on Ben Long, had discussion today with St Kilda but we still have a bit of work to do on that. Hope we are driving a hard bargain.

My take on that was that there was more involved than just arguing over a pick. It was interesting listening to Cameron.

I take that as - one of Hartigan/Tomlinson for the back half and Schache or Weideman for the forward half.

I agree

I haven't seen too many on here suggesting we should trade Clark for Thomas though, which is why I didn't really understand the grass is always greener comment.

As a kid North Melbourne in the 70s revolutionized the game , They were really the first team to put together a all star list.
They had icon's in the squad - Kieth Grieg , Dench , Alves , Barry Davis , Barry Cable , Wade , Blight , Glendinning , Dempsey , Krackouer brothers , Schimmelbush - list is long.

They set the club up to really motor on , they had success later on when Pagan and Carey came together.

But cut to today - the club is rudderless , there last captain who was a super star and Nth icon - disgraced him self at the club a long time ago and you would think there past hero's would be at the club trying to bring the aura back but no.

IMO , Image being a past player and one of the so called tough guys in there side for years was called the junk yard dog by Lou Richards due to he would give anyone a good scrap , a bit like Bruce Doull but of course not in the same class as the flying Door mat , is found to be a transvestite.

I just feel the leadership at the club were given the ball to run with and they dropped it long ago and the culture at the club has just exploded with icon's disgracing themselves.

Carey and Laidley have very little do with the clubs current problems but seeing them in the news when the club is going through one of it's worst times in it's history is not helping.

IMO
Triggered much, maybe check our history.
Don't see the need to pile on them,

You might have to wait till Hunter turns 28 before his replacement becomes a hardened AFL footballer. I’m not saying #8 isn’t worth it, but Clark has shown he can hit a target and have unreal poise in traffic. He is worth keeping for mine.
FWIW other pick #8s have been…Vickery, John Butcher, Heppell, Longer, Mayes, Luke McDonald, Peter Wright, Ah Chee, Logue, Coffield, Tarryn Thomas, Serong, Nik Cox, Amiss so Hunter stacks up well enough.

Plenty of those id have in front of Hunter

Considering McDonald was F/S and Wright got traded later for pretty much nil, I'd say Heppell and Sarong and that's about it.
I agree

Two posts after this one someone was suggesting Clark for Thomas with us providing something extra to make it work.

I don't really see the point in trading our unrealised talent for someone else's unrealised talent.

Yeah, that post was well after your comment though, which is why I didn't really understand what you were getting at.

I agree, I don't see the point in it either
