Captaincy experience from under 18s, good character, tough at the contest, good runner good tackler. Been played on the wing out of position, he’s exactly the type you steal for cheap

Would rather Lewis Taylor for free. At least he has proven form.

Talking about 2 very different players there.

That's true but if you are digging in the bin Taylor would almost push Butler out if he had a bad game. Go back and and have a look at his stats in the VFL. I saw a VFL game he played in and thought he looked great and went through his stats realised that was how he played. He'd probably push a few of our seniors out and he did beat Bont in the rising star despite Bont being incredible in his first season.

One is a 22 year old mid who has had to play on the wing or been used as the sub due to his sides deep midfield.

The other is a mid/fwd who will be 28 by rd1 next year, the only game they've got over the past 3 seasons has been as the sub and when they have played, been played in position but just hasn't reached the heights of their questionable rising star win ever again.

It's not a great comparison for this one or the other scenario.

We all know how good your mate Luke was in his first year as well and you know that sometimes players are just very good at VFL and not AFL.

We need to keep out of Bins

Something that frustrates me is the number of times we tackle without impacting the opponents ability to dispose of the ball. At least forcing a stoppage helps. It’s a small gripe and maybe I’m wrong or too harsh but feels like we could lift in this area.

That's hopefully where Lenny will make a huge difference - he was a master at pinning the arms (also had the ability to force players into bringing their arms down before he tackled - watched a few highlights while writing this) without going high - our technique, much of the time, feels lacking.

If we want draft picks we need Long to take his offer.

Doubt he's on big money but the fact hes been offered 4 years means the Suns will at least give something.

If we can upgrade from a 3rd to a decent 2nd and get 3 top 30 picks we've done well

What do we need draft picks for specifically? To go to the draft or upgrade our first?

That would have a big bearing for me on whether I prefer Long to stay or go.

His last game showed so much potential. Like Sean Dempster levels. I’d love for him to stay at this point and hopefully excel in his preferred role down back.

Still not convinced he can operate at that level consistently, but he does have a lot of the qualities that we would want in a young player. I’m leaning towards let’s keep him.

Zak Jones had an horrendous season, with the initial interruption and then he just came back playing terribly. He seemed unsettled and often gave away free kicks. The other thing is his tackling was atrocious.

I know as a result of that he has been written off by many on here myself included, but if you look back through our good wins over the last few years he has often been a big part of it in the midfield.

Here's hoping he can have a good pre-season and really help our midfield next year. He is a point of difference because he is quick. His kicking isn't great but he can bust through packs and even this year played some good games. We are better when he is playing well in my opinion.

I also hope that Zak can turn it around because his burst speed out of contest is something we could really use.

If he continues to falter in the middle is their a place for him behind the ball, like the role he had at Sydney?

I always feel like Zak gets poorly treated by the umpires as far as head high contact goes. Is that just me, or does anyone else feel the same way?

There was a particularly shocking free given against him this year in a crucial game. Might have been against Freo?

I meant more in terms of free kicks missed.

Lachie Weller was contracted...

I can't even believe we are having a discussion around Ben Long and a first round pick [emoji23]

I dunno man.

I asked for $1000 for my old leather lounge and got it on gumtree.

What about getting GC pick 32, as you say, package them up, but for Bris 1st rounder next year, then trade to North pick 9 and Bris future 1st for pick 1?

IF Hill and Clark are still on the move (though I think Caro's article makes that harder), then we could almost trade that future back in as part of that deal?
Love the optimism but BL's Future 1st would likely be P16-18, let's say P16.

Don't think NM would take P9 and FP16 for P1. You'd have to throw either Clark/Hill/More pick swapping to strike that deal I'd say.

Who's comparing them? Taylor is battling for Butlers spot. Your kid needs to jump about 10 others. Apart from his questionably high draft selection he's shown FA.

Yeah we're pretty light on for fast, small pressure forwards. If Butler was to get injured who steps in to that role? We all know he hasn't been hitting the scoreboard as we'd like but his tackle and pressure numbers inside50 keep him in the team and with good reason.

Not sure what happened with Lewie Taylor. His career started with a bang, as you say the Rising Star winner and I remember he was really playing well, one of the best small forwards in the game back there for a while. Can't really remember, was he out of favour at Brisbane before the move or did that come once he was at Sydney?

As cheap backup for that role I don't mind it.

Ohalloran

2 games at 60.5 supercoach average
14 games at 54.9
14 games at 36.7

Doesn't win the ball. Doesn't kick goals. Barely tackles.

I think getting in Rayner along side Cameron was his downfall. He's a good mid in the VFL but too small in AFL.

If you weren't comparing them, why bring Taylor into the conversation as the player you'd prefer us to get?

They aren't the same players for the same spot, they are both delisted. Both come free. I was suggesting that he looks more of a use to us.

Yeah, like Ginnivan he does duck into them but then they don't give him anything now even if he's coathangered. Same with Gresham, they won't play legitimate ones now.

An Ormond boy. plugger66 would be all over it ;)
Yep played for my local side. I do know Chris to say hello but wouldn’t ring him. Probably because I don’t have a number. I do know his son has really struggled in Adelaide but it could be for a couple of reasons. Mightn’t be any good but also his dad was very sick for a while so being away wouldn’t have helped

Let battle become the ultimate Stewart/Lever player
Honestly think that role is still best suited for Highmore.
For whatever reason he didn’t have the year he’d have liked but he reads the ball very well and his kicking is good. His issue so far has seemed to be confidence and decision making.
He can be an intercept machine if it clicks for him.
Still only 24 (same age as Stewart was when he was drafted).
