Isn’t that what we are doing. We are going to the draft with 3 top 30 picks after all the fs bids. The media just want us to do both. Trade in and hit the draft. Fcuk em
Agree
But why even give them the clicks they want or get upset over them

I agree with all that

But we say similar every year

Players you mentioned you are spot on about I don’t believe we have the game plan or coach to get the best out of them and the team
And I agree with all this except the coach. That I’m unsure about.

There is more money going into our development that brings us closer to the level of “more successful” clubs.

But I think we all agree we all need to see results both individually and team based.

Whilst I’m feeling flat about our future prospects today.

Those 3 + Coffield/King/Higgins/Battle and Marshall

Could transform the entire leagues opinion on us in a season.

Clark for me at this point should be moved if a first round pick is offered. Just don’t believe he has the drive unfortunately

Is North the only interested buyer? Or as that tweet I posted said does he have couple more and do we know who?

I know 3 in 30 is a great haul on face value.

But ultimately it will be pick 10 and 2 in the 20s, the last pick might even be 30.

It isn’t a direction changing hand on face value

I reckon the Blues look ready to go to another level IMO. Acres makes sense because they need a bit of outside run to add to a great inside set up.
He certainly makes sense if it’s on numbers. Something tells me with him there is more to it. Carlton have an average backline but a very good midfield but lacks a little depth. Excellent tall forwards but not much in the medium to small range. They would need less injuries which probably will happen but still think they are a little off

Sorry my mistake I thought it was one pick we gave up for Austin, but it was two picks. Most people were inquiring about why we gave up the picks for an unheard of Port backman.

Yes, Ryan Gamble was a very strange one by Rossy.

To get Austin, we traded a future 3rd, and we got a future 4th back.

It got confusing because we then did a pick swap with Port.
We traded our future 2nd and some later (2017) picks, to get pick 34 ( Clavarino ) and Adelaide's 2018 4th rounder.
( players taken immediately after Clavarino ... Constable, Petty, Petrucelle, Murphy, and McPherson ).

That's why we found ourselves with no 2nd or 3rd round picks in 2018.

Gamble was simply Lyon being desperate for players who would could feasibly play seniors for not much cash. StKilda's aging superstars were chewing up all the salary cap.
Dean Polo the same.

Players who got games in 2011, included....
Daniel Archer. Will Johnson. Tom Ledger. Tom Simpkin , Nick Winmar, Alistair Smith, Arryn Sippos, Ryan Gamble. Dean Polo.

Last year was good but we got lucky with Windy and Owens
Let’s see if NWM is still with us this time next year
Let’s hope he does better then Alison this year
I feel it is a bit unfair to class Owens and Windhager lucky.

couldn't pick until after 20 got Owens @ 33 and Windhager @ 47.

Any team could have chosen them in the 20, and by the looks so far Windhager could have been a top 20, Owens maybe but not enough to go on.

They weren't a lay down misere like Ugle-Hagen and Ashcroft.

Our trading last year was excellent, I don't think we were lucky at all. Actually I reckon if we want any critisism of trading possibly NWM as I would have preferred Hobbs or maybe Sinn, and with the talk of him going home it may work out badly, but on playing quality alone he is very good.

We get a lay down misere top ten, and we can't get him. We are screwed as usual by the AFL.

If he goes home next year. All port will have to offer is Sinn 😂

The crows will have a first

The media will happily bag us for not making any trades.

If we traded all our draft picks for players they would then bag us during draft time, for not drafting many players.

Its what they do.
They award winners and losers.
Then they critisize clubs for "trying to win a trade , and trades not going through ".
3 Years later no-one notices that the winners and losers were totally different to what they awarded at the time.

If you divide the salary cap through by all the players you get 350 000K per player.
Obviously if you are going to have some stars on big bucks, your average players need to be on less.

I'd suggest that Acres is an average player.
Thought his season on stats was better than average. Yes the average is 350k and the big players get much more but also the young guys get much less. He deserves about 350k and 2 or 3 years. They offered one year and 180k according to sen. That is delisting a player

I know Aaron's mum, went to Auburn on a sport scholarship to do a business degree. Anything else was a bonus, to be selected in the NFL as the lowest paid player would make him easily the highest paid in the AFL.

Not bad for a delisted Saints player.

I know what you mean. Trade week is a joke now, way to long. The media constantly just need to make headline, it’s all crap
Honestly the way to fix this broken system is moving to an NBA style model.

No talking to rival players or coaches until free agency hits on midnight.

Capping maximum earnings for traded players who have spent <5 years at a new club.

Draftees have some of their salary paid outside the cap. When traded to a new club they get the full hit.

Proper equalisation.

No academy’s.

Keep father sons. But if they fall at pick 1, than fair game to that club who holds pick 1 as an exception.

Clubs must hold a pick in the round they are bidding towards academy selections/FS

Ive got to admit I'm a little baffled about some of the responses here. We get one of the toughest draws in the system. we finish 9th. Walsh is right, we're not respected, but its not because we are finishing last, its because we don't seem to be progressing as a football team past mid tear.

The club has identified an age problem, so they go back to the draft, we have a great draft year last year it seems, now we need top end talent, we have a lot of soldiers, good ones too, be we need an elite player or two, to stand next to King.

I think the club is beginning to realise how hard it is to get these guys from other clubs. Now they are going to the draft in the hope of getting elite talent. Its risky but its cheaper if it works. I think we tried the Trade thing and it took us to mid table. Now we need to trade to get higher picks, not more soldiers.

For mine the only elite players being traded this trade period, are Taranto and Dunkley. The Bowes deal is great, but it could lead to nothing for the Cats. The only side getting better are Richmond and the Lions in my eyes, Collingwood is getting more soldiers, Geelong gets some good young talent. We need a top 5 draft pick.
2019 we won 9 games
2020 we won 10 games Finals 6th
2021 we won 10 games 10th
2020 we won 11 games 10th

2022 we have 5 or 6 x A graders
Steele
Marshall
Wilkie
Sinclair
King
Perhaps Crouch
A graders are the players who will win their position week in week out

We need more A graders and there are arguably more A graders up for this trade period than in recent years

Taranto
Degoey
Dunkley
Grundy
Jackson
Hopper
Whitfield
Haynes
Mitchell
We are instantly a better team with any of these players

And a plethora of former 1st round picks
Henry
Bruhn
Horne-francis
Bowes
Clark

Other clubs are adding not only high end talent but high draft picks
Brisbane
Dunkley
Ashcroft
Fletcher
And have traded a B grade player in Mcstay
Geelong
Bowes
Henry
Bruhn
pick 7 Jyhe Clark

So far we have Cordy and pick 32

I would have thought with our president saying he is sick of mediocrity its actions not words etc we would have come out firing this trade period.

Perhaps, and my thoughts are we thought we had degoey signed
I think it's highly likely he may have used our interest to leverage collingwood and judging by the comments of his manager it seems very likely
But did we have a plan B if we didn't get him???
And is our 2022 trading strategy on the back foot this trade period?

There are still 6 days left for this trade period still plenty of time to increase our draft position and acquire some A grade talent

Fair call
We were lucky they were still there for our picks

If draft was done again both would be top 20
