Same rule applies to this thread as other years, keep it on topic about the kids.
Don’t get bogged down on what other teams might do or where they will finish.

Trade speculation belongs here.

That's also where you can discuss your mock drafts or pick trades.

Any McCabe, Dear or Maginness talk belongs here.

Agree but as long as we protect our future first. Next years draft looks very strong, and we can’t afford to go into the draft with nothing. Especially if we are a bottom 6 side, which is more than likely.
Have been told the opposite.

‘Next year’s draft is very strong’ is basically a meme these days. Said every year 😂
Imagine going into this years draft without pick 3. How dire that would be.

I would prefer we don't experience that feeling next year.

Holding onto our future first is key, especially while we are not contending. Only one way up, young top-end talent must continually come in.

But if we trade our F1 for an early 1st this year then the player we take has gained 1 year of AFL experience
Long term that could be better as it speeds up the development of our squad.

While looking at it next year as not having an early pick would suck, you need to look at the bigger picture…..getting back up the top where we belong asap

It almost as if some people don’t get this concept

With regard to next year’s draft no one knows who will dramatically improve and who will stagnate during the course of the season. There are always risers and falls.
However the early picks this year look good and I can see the merit of trading our F1 provided we got a top 6 pick in return.
The alternative view however, is that we may have other plans for that pick if we are seriously courting an A grade talent next year and need draft capital to achieve that.
We just don’t know what the opportunity cost would be.

It wouldn’t be dire if we already had Sheezel and McKenzie on our list

But what if it was McKenzie and Jhye Clark?
Isn’t that the same every year though ?

We could pick up Luke Hodge & Daniel Elstone.
Or we could pick up Roughead, Franklin & Lewis

You think & hope you’re picking up the next premiership players for your club, but reality is, you are gambling or having an educated guess.
It’s not exact science

The basic thought is that next year's draft is decidedly average. It's heavy on mids who aren't setting things on fire no matter how much they'll be pumped up later next year by the media - outside of a top five (which is debatable). That given and the fact we're backing ourselves to finish better than bottom three is why we're shopping around our F1.

Don't get me wrong, there are some good mids next year but it's a very shallow pool.

Filling in some of the gaps in my back catalogue.

Not Nate Caddy's strongest game. In spite of the lopsided scoreline, this game was relatively even in general play. Northern just struggled to convert its opportunities inside 50. Caddy dropped a few marks that he would normally grab, and struggled to find space with his leads.

We already have the start of a great midfield, this draft has more key position potential than I have ever seen before. I'm surprised to see so many arguing to take a small forward and be done with it, or to trade up to pick 1 rather than trying to generate multiple picks in the top 15. I think the next all-Australian CHF and CHB are in this top 15.

Walter is the tall whose most likely to be AA.

As for top defenders, most are either drafted as a forward or later in the draft.
