Same rule applies to this thread as other years, keep it on topic about the kids.
Don’t get bogged down on what other teams might do or where they will finish.

Trade speculation belongs here.

That's also where you can discuss your mock drafts or pick trades.

Any McCabe, Dear or Maginness talk belongs here.

Sanders has to be a smokescreen, just doesn't make sense with our abundance of midfielders and the fact that he doesn't have a point of difference to our current group.

Dogs may want him (it's been reported around here anyway) should Watson not be available. Or even instead of Watson (again, only read on here).

Makes a little more sense for them given their midfield is older - but still has a few years left. Whilst ours is young, up and coming, with several years left.

Suggested elsewhere - Kanga's 17/18 traded to Cats for 8. Solves issues for both clubs. Cats split 8 (awkward position on players available) for multiple late 1st rounds to begin replenish the old folks home, North get what they need to satisfy Eagles.

2 and 8 to Eagles for #1.

1 - NM (Reid)
2 - WCE (Curtin)
3 - GC (Walter - bid match)
4 - NM (?) McKercher, Watson, Duursma, (Sanders, Caddy...)
5 - Haw (above less 1)
6 - Dogs
7 - Dees
8 - GWS
9 - Eagles

Assuming we are out of the NM/WCE decision for Reid, there's going to be players of interest on the board for Dogs and Dees - if they have different preferences to us, we may be able to slide for value and still get our preferred target.

That's where McCabe's predicted ranking gets problematic, Adelaide have 10, 14 and 20 and I can't see us getting inside those picks easily unless we deal with Demons (still behind #10).

Dees have little use for our later picks if we wanted 11, (would take our F1 I feel) and Dogs have nothing outside of #5, with late picks to match their FS (Croft). Any later picks will be used up matching McCabe. We could select Croft at 5 and either force Dogs to match (or get a talented KPP which we need but perhaps a stretch at 5). I think if faced with Croft or ?, the Dogs would let Croft go, with better players still on the table.

So if we are looking at Dees, it's primarily to bring in pick 11, and would need us to be happy with at least 3 players still available at #5 (or trusting Dogs/Dees to select who they say if we want a third). There's then another 4-5 picks to get through before our next pick - will O'Sullivan or Caddy even last that long? I don't think they do.

If our target is to trade back in for a specific player ahead of McCabe then it's going to cost our F1 anyway. I think we are more likely to use #4 on our preferred target, then trade our F1 to get back in - basically offering it to each club in order as their pick comes up.

Just to expand further. Dees no 11 probably doesn't get us the player we want O'Sullivan as bids will disrupt things. So I'm choosing to pass on Pick 11 this year for the Dees F1 and F2.

Curtin and McCabe I’ll take at least 3 years to mature. Please remember this.
Exactly. It is unrealistic/ overly optimistic to expect most KPPs to slot straight into an AFL side. That is playing key position, some may be good enough to get some games as the third tall.

Don't lock your thinking into just because we need KPP's they can only play as KPP's.

McCabe is best as a running, rebounding defender. Given appropraite form do you really think he'll be at BH for two years? Weddle and CJ great examples.
Curtin is a KPF but also has played with aplomb as a bull mid. Wont he get a game? Nash is a bull mid who doesn't play tall, Curtin does.

We're getting McCabe, if we were also to get Curtin (for example) I could see both playing more than 'a handful' of games next year.

North were keen on Sanders so, maybe the Hawks forcing their hand a bit. If they bite, we end up with an extra choice as in, they grab Sanders plus Curtin/Watson/Duursma, only one of them will be off the table. We'll have two top end choices .
