Same rule applies to this thread as other years, keep it on topic about the kids.
Don’t get bogged down on what other teams might do or where they will finish.

Trade speculation belongs here.

That's also where you can discuss your mock drafts or pick trades.

Any McCabe, Dear or Maginness talk belongs here.

The only similarities are that the general public and media are hyping him up like crazy, same as JHF, whereas during the JHF hype, I and a couple others were changing our calls to say Daicos was the obvious number 1, but it was too late the hype had gone too far, doesn't help Daicos was a FS, but going at 4 was a steal.

Last year Wardlaw came into the year being the clear number 1 from everyone's perspective, he got injured and then Ashcroft had great form and he became the number 1 pick, but then GWS went for the KPF in Cadman and again the FS prevented the best player going number 1, also the favourite prior to the season went at 4.

So pick 4 is blessed, I guess lol

Appreciate the reply mate, that's great reading.

Daicos is showing he would have been a deserving pick 1, Collingwood got an absolute steal, I hope our time will one day come where we get an elite father son.

I'd assumed Reid & JHF were similar - powerful, explosive, game winning midfielders. Interesting to see that they aren't really similar at all.

How does Harley Reid compare to Horne-Francis at the same stage?

There was obviously a heap of hype around H-F that hasn't completely translated into consistent dominant afl form (I still think he'll be a jet). Do draft watchers thing Reid will be significantly different?
JHF was incredibly impactful as a midfielder and a forward in different ways, but I think Reid plays as a gun everywhere on the field. JHF is great as a half-forward and contested midfielder, but I'd prefer Reid as a forward target and as a distributor on the outside. They're both brilliant archetypes and players, but if JHF is a Dusty type where he is deadly as a forward and as a midfielder, Reid is more like the Bont where he could be best on ground from the back pocket to Full forward. The expectation for JHF is bursts of brilliant impact around the ground, for Harley it's more consistent impact around the ground. It's a fine line, and neither will fully realise they're potential until they build up the stamina to impact games for a full 4 quarters, but their are subtle differences in the ways they play now and should develop.

Another thing I'd be keen to learn about Harley is what his personality and temperament is like.

I think we really need someone with X-factor and the right amount of swagger. But it's a thin line between that and a toxic FIGJAM type that alienates half the list.

Luckily Hawthorn does the most psychological testing and no doubt we'll interview him plenty throughout the year, so hopefully if he's coming our way he'll be a good fit for our group.

I hope AFL stream it! Would be good to see how Harley goes on bigger bodies, I think he will actually have a bigger impact with better opposition. Apparently he tore it up with Essendon in practice matches. His low centre of gravity and ability to fly for marks I have never seen before, it’s usually one of the other. As for his temperament; he’s a match winner he has swagger and campaigner in him, you need that to be a match winner.

It will be shown in the AFL app.

Would love to go but have a party on. Would be interested to see how Moir goes, I reckon he’s the only one I see as another potential pick 1. Has some serious skill that lad, but still way behind Harley at this stage.

It's been and gone. He's now a retired captain and premiership player of the $wans

HR is a country boy, so that's a good start.

Last time we played who we wanted from boxhill (Newcombe) we had to change our draft plans and take him first rather than second. I think we will be smarter than that this time around.
Hmmmm so you're thinking we might take 2x picks in the MSD and if he's on our radar we'd prefer to use our 2nd pick on him?
I didn't think we'd have room to take 2x MSD picks.

I figured we'd have either the 1st or 2nd pick in the MSD so we'd get to pick whoever we want anyway, so we're better off giving him as much opportunity to develop as practical so we can be sure we're getting the pick right (instead of say Ziggy etc.)

Very level headed

while still having the bulk of this season to go, how do you rate him compared to recent number 1 picks and early draftees at same stage ?
He's a different player to any of the recent top end midfield prospects, but he's got a really good mix of traits to be an extraordinarily impactful stoppage player and resting forward at the next level. Doesn't have the same level of skill execution or pure possession numbers as say Daicos or Ashcroft, but I could see him ending up with a better career/ seen as more impactful

Cal Twomey was standing 5 metres from me at the parade tonight. A mate and I went up and got a selfie with him for the lols.

He was actually a really nice guy, asked us where we from and our thoughts on the game. As soon as he caught wind I was a hawks man he mentioned Harley Reid was here tonight. For what it’s worth I mentioned he was coming home.

I'm having no luck watching the AFL Academy vs PA game. Keeps on cutting out and stating the live stream is now ended. If anyone is watching please provide the link.
Getting the same thing. They'll probably get it sorted 10 mins in.
