Curtin & Edwards sound like they will be really good players, and meet our needs perfectly. We're drastically short of both KPDs and KPFs, and Curtin is able to play at both ends of the ground - with hopes of eventually moving into the midfield. Edwards sounds like the "big bodied midfielder" we've been crying out for them to draft for years (and his interview was VERY impressive).

I don't know enough about Ryan to comment.

My only issue is that we have, yet again, failed to draft a ruckman - and with both of our rookie list positions already committed, we won't be grabbing one in the RD either. ROB & Strachan are both 28, Himmelberg is expected to depart via FA next year, and that leaves Thilthorpe as the only other ruckman on our list. The 2023 draft was apparently strong on ruckmen, and this is clearly one area of desperate need. Failing to draft one this year could well hurt us down the track.

Just grab that Murray fellow from our SANFL side

We don't have any vacancies left to fill. All we have left are 2x Cat A rookie list positions, and we've already committed to taking Hamill & Borlase with those.

We also don't have any players eligible for the Inactive List, unless they decide to change their tune and write Schoenberg off for the whole year.

As things currently stand, the only way to get Murray onto our list would be selecting him in the MSD, which would require one of our other players to suffer a season-ending injury.

** We also have Cat B rookie positions available, but Murray isn't eligible.

If the goal is developing a ruckman not playing them immediately, I don't think it makes much difference when we put them on the list. He'll be around our system in the SANFL side anyway.

What makes the GWS trade with ADEL, curiouser and curiouser .....is not just who they took with our pick 10 ...but also that they so easily gave up the F2 pick we gave them as part of the Pick 8 trade

So, in the end .....GWS moved back from #7 to #10 .....just to get from #16 to #14 .....to get a player they could have got at #10

Let's be honest, if we were offered a choice of Curtin/Edwards or Leake/Goad before the draft, I reckon most of us would have taken option 1.
Reckon the options would have been:
osullivan, goad , Ryan (our future second round)
v
curtin , Edwards , Ryan

happy with the latter

Did they give our second round pick or gws pick?

We seriously should just pay Hamill out and be done with it. He wouldnt be on much and we have bucketloads of cap space.

I think there will be a fair shedding of players next year. We should open a book.
Indeed. I feel like we have a lot of 'nearly there' players who will need to make way for new blood.

Of the guys coming out of contract next year, Cook, Burgess, Himmelberg, Bond, Gollant, Sholl, McHenry, Parnell and Berry will need to show they're first team regulars, or they might be out the door.

If they got both players they wanted it was a success.

Maneuvering their picks around to guarantee what they want is better than sitting back and missing out

Could have got at 10 according to phantom drafts, which don't match the thinking of all clubs - self evidently - as players are picked higher or lower than the "expert consensus"

I still trust Twomey. Looking forward to us getting Goad tomorrow at 31 where he was mocked.

Moving one spot, costing a F2 ? ......the fact St Kilda were prepared to do the deal, says GWS were in no danger of not getting their man, if the stayed 1 pick back

GWS concentrated on their needs, and didn't read what SAINTS were chasing ......more run, making Wilson the clear as day obvious way the Saints would go

You don't know what anyone else was offering

Have to agree with this - we now have 3 left-sided defenders for Hamill to get past (Worrell, Hinge, Curtin). Just not going to happen.

From that list;
cook : keep 1 year contract
burgess : keep 1 year contract
himmelberg: traded , 3rd round pick
Bond: rookied
Gollant: 2 year contract if he wants it, second round pick if he wants to leave
Sholl: traded third round pick
Parnell: delisted
Berry: 1 year contract if he wants it, 3rd round pick if he wants to leave

borlase , hammill delisted

sloane retired

gives us 4 main list spots, couple of rookie picks

Himmelberg will be leaving as a UFA, not via trade.

The key is there might have been 2-3 other clubs chasing the pick which is where the pressure comes from
