List Mgmt. 2023 Draft Thread - Part I

West Coast should have tried to trade pick 1 to North for 2 and one of the late round 1 draft picks.
I can't believe that the difference in Reid to McKercher is so significant that it would make up for them also getting a player like Collard.
They picked up a couple of decent recruits but its going to be a long slow rebuild for them at this rate.
Next year they have Yep Gaff and Duggan all OOC.

The could easily get pick 1 again and a shit load of salary off the books + a few second round compo picks and get the ball rolling on that rebuild.

I just don’t think they need to cry about not getting collard when 12 months ago we lost a pick 7

Agree clubs get stars in their eyes over taking pick #1. They could have turned pick 1 into McKercher, Curtin and Collard. So no one should hold any sympathy for WCE. Their list manager is well passed his use by date and is far too set in his ways.

No one player is worth 3 x quality players.

I lived in Perth for 10 years, including the time when they were the only WA team. Their fans and the media there have their heads so far up their own cracks it’s ridiculous. The level of parochialism and whinging when things don’t go their way is second to none that I’ve experienced. Long may they suffer

Clearly identified a need for speed and went all in on it. Very happy with the types of players we've ended up with.

Re the rumours - whether or not it is true in this case, that type of bullying does occur very rapidly in society and many people who are victims of it are no longer here because of it. Even if it is just taking the piss out of rumours, people with disabilities shouldn't be used as a joke so you can get a few meaningless likes on the internet.
You're right. I'm gonna start making jokes about orphans instead.

Then I'm going to go out and buy some pearls to clutch.

Perhaps we can start some sort of self-flagellation club for everyone to seek some sort of redemption for laughing at some random crap on the interwebs posted by an anonymous stranger.........

But to be more serious. You do realise that you're going to die one day, and at your funeral if someone mentions that your virtue meter once fell below 100% that no-one will give any ****s whatsoever?

Hadn't heard anything about Hugo Garcia? Speedy & loves to tackle.
And our games are going to be a lot louder with his mates & family there, Haha
Averages 20 and a goal at U18 level which reflects similarly with a fan favourite in Cooper Simpson.
Not extremely powerful but his defensive work (both midfield and forward) will shine in our system if he puts the work in.

Could be a "bust" but has the athletic profile and hustle to really suit us across the front half

I know we lucked out on the free agency front.

But credit to SOS & Gubby.

We just brought in 5 kids + Dow + Henry and have a full suite of picks next year

The only best 22 players we lost was Gresh - who had a massively underwhelming year and Another year ruined by injury for Billings and Coffield.
Don’t forget Liam O’Connell..

I find it very hard to sympathise with any other club when last year we missed out on Cmac to the hawks who went pick 7!!

We weren’t allowed to keep him. We weren’t offered the opportunity to trade out and gain a plethora of picks and still nab him.

So, no WCE can suck a d1ck - crying over the fact they lost out on Collard
Crying 😂😂😂

Players slide all the time, draft isn’t perfect heck 17 teams passed on Jack Sinclair, Wilkie and Marshal.
But none of those players were projected to be top 30 picks by memory. Nobody was expecting Wilkie, for example, to be drafted in his draft year top 30. But you’re right, there will always be gems in the rookie draft because some players don’t peak at 18. Likewise there will always be first rounders that will spud the stage up.

We have 43 players on the list as it stands today, and I believe the max is 45?

Rookie McKenzie and pickup a kid in the PSD you'd imagine. Or leave a list spot open for the mid-season draft next year.

Me too, but he's 27 and has only played 73 games.
I can't remember another player who's been gifted such a long career with so little output.
I guess before the injuries he clearly showed that he is in the Saints best side. Big doubt with the injuries obviously. It really comes down to if they prefer Dmac taking a cheap rookie spot or if they have their eye on another player in the rookie draft (and whether that player is still there at their pick).

Pure speculation of course.

Lately we've been using the SSP after having players train with us.
Might be different under SOS though.

Definitely agree the system needs looking at but there's something on the nose about 3 clubs that have all won premierships in the last 5 years having a sook about it
The problem is its not even - why do the rules that apply to us and the gold coast differ ?? how can anyone except for Goldcoast and any other team with these ridiculous rule advantages think thats ok ?

Reid maybe a good player, but they are a basket case and need talent all over the field. Definitely a mistake for not taking Mckercher, Curtin and Collard, two of them WA products as well.

No question the NGA thing has to change. GC sweeping the first round with a bunch of mid picks is ridiculous.

Id tweak father son too. Im fine with a point discount of whatever (20%) but you should have to use a pick in that round as part of points matching, or within 5 or 10 picks or something. Being able to match a top 10 with a bunch of junk in the 20s and 30s is ridiculous.
