It's more about whatever Port need to get their deals over the line and whether we are willing to pay it. The onus will be on them to get the deal done so we're positioned pretty well. Future picks are also unknowns which makes them worth a bit less, Port finished top 4 this year so you assume that the pick is going to be around 14-18. You don't pay overs for a future pick on the basis that you might get something in the top ten.

I suspect it would be something like 25, 32 and Grundy pick for F1 + F3 though.

See above post why I'm a little skeptical of some of that - but the Grundy pick probably levels things out a little more.

Knowing us we would have no issue trading three seconds if it got us back into the top 20.

Whatever compo we get for Jordon would probably also come into play.

You wouldn't trade the farm on this bet but I wouldn't be surprised if Port had a year like Freo did this year. They had a good run but plenty of teams looked better than them by years end.

Yeah understand what you're saying, but it seems like it's just speculation on what they currently have - without any solid evidence of what the full trade would be.

Put it this way, we thought right up until we traded with the Lions, that the trade would be 38, 48, 55 and a Future 4th to move from 38 to 25 - as Lions just needed points for Ashcroft and Fletcher. Nek minnit, our Future 2nd is in there as well, which is essentially the same Pick as the Pick 25 we gave up this year.

Pretty sure Port gave up a lot to move from 14 to 12 in the draft, just to land Sinn. Same with the Hawks and Weddle last year. Premium goes up as the picks get higher and higher. 33 alone to move from 25 to 14...or even 6-8 - would be one of the biggest steals in recent trade memory, haha (obviously not including the Bowes/Pick 7 trade last year).

Port don't hold the cards though. The amount of players who they've got to nominate them compared to the draft capital they have means they are the ones under pressure to do a deal.

IMO the Dees won't want to be trading much into futures anyway. Apparently more looking at top end of the draft this year so giving up 22 and 25 for a speculative pick next year just wouldn't be an option in my view.

This place is so toxic these days. Not difficult to understand why only about six people bother posting.

Very similar to demonland now, although my experience is a little better recently after blocking a couple of the worst offenders

I dunno about that. Freo traded players out and added a second ruck for no real reason like us. Port are just adding talent and their midfield should only improve. They literally just need key defenders

See my previous post regarding bypassing you guys entirely, to explain why I'm again pretty skeptical around just 25 and 33 being the only parts of the deal.

The guys they're adding don't inspire me a lot. Probably not bottom 6 territory but could see them falling out of the 8 while Carlton, Sydney, Giants hold, Adelaide and Gold Coast jump up. Could see it happening to us too tbh.

Ah yeah, just saw it on the previous page. That probably makes more sense - although I'm not totally convinced on the logic of the future picks in the Sav trade. Using your previous logic that could end up being pick 6-8 for Sav and pick 30ish, pretty risky.

Yeah it's all risky for Port, haha. Which is why they'd have to get something from someone to make them feel justified in doing it. Either you or us, they still lose a potential Top 10 pick to pay for Sav, BZT and Soldo.

Just extra steps going with you guys, haha.

Yeah i can't really predict next year. GWS and Carlton looked so good at the end of the year.

Kinda makes me glad the Dees haven't been linked to heaps of players yet. Less pressure.

Like I said, wouldn't bet on it, but would be careful about on-trading that pick as well.

Reading a few BigFooty Phantom September adjustments, Conor O’Sullivan is a consistent mover from pick 9 or 10 to as high as 6 in a few. I personally like him the most out of any of the kids available outside the established top 5. Doesn’t matter to me that he’s not a mid or forward, if he’s best available talent we should pick him. 12 year elite 198cm key defender you’d have to think long and hard about passing that up. VERY hard type of player to acquire. He could be used in various roles over his first few seasons as his body develops then transition to become our primary key defender beautifully just as Steve May exits the game.

They were both better than spud Jordan. Hell be delisted within a couple yrs
I think youre forgetting how tragic of a player Ted Richards was at Essendon. I do agree, Rhyce Shaw had far more talent than Jordon though.

If North feel obliged to take Sanders and WB get GCs pick and take Watson, then McKercher could theoretically fall to us. But I’m probably dreaming.

If it all runs in the expected order then I hope we take O’Sullivan.

Darcy Wilson is rising up my order but yeh you can build a backline around a player like O’Sullivan and apparently he’s the most competitive kid in it this year too.

As Brodie Grundy’s pending move to Sydney draws closer, there remains one small but significant hurdle that all parties need to jump.

Money.

Three sources close to Grundy, who were not able to talk publicly because of the sensitivity of negotiations, confirmed that he wants to join the Swans and a deal between the Demons and the Swans is expected to be reached where Melbourne will no longer pay part of Grundy’s contract.

About $650,000 is expected to be taken on by his new club, who will honour the remaining four seasons on his contract.

But then there’s Collingwood.

Less than 12 months ago, Melbourne coughed up pick No.27 for Grundy on the proviso that the Magpies would pay a significant portion – approximately $350,000 a season for the rest of the contract (which ends at the end of 2027).

Yes, it was a pretty good deal for Melbourne, who only had to give up a second-round pick for a dual All-Australian and two-time club best and fairest. But Collingwood needed the cap space, so the Demons were always going to have the majority of the leverage.

This column can reveal that, when the deal goes through, Collingwood will seek clarity from the AFL as to whether the club can remove itself from the deal, and therefore clear the $350,000-a-year space in their future total player payments.

A senior club source, who wouldn’t speak publicly due to the confidentiality of player contracts, confirmed the Magpies had discussed internally the status of Grundy’s seven-year Collingwood contract if he were to move clubs again.

Collingwood’s position will be that it had a deal with Grundy and Melbourne, but not with Grundy and Sydney. It’s a position that might be difficult to get past the bosses at AFL HQ, given that Andrew Dillon and Laura Kane are both lawyers.

Having said that, if there were two men in football you’d want fighting for your life from a club perspective, it’s Jeff Browne and Craig Kelly.

President Browne, the former boss of Nine (the owner of this masthead), wrote a significant portion of the AFL rules that govern the game and CEO Kelly was, alongside the likes of Paul Connors and Tom Petroro, one of the highest-profile and powerful player agents the game has seen.

Whatever happens, Sydney certainly won’t want to be left with a million-dollar price tag for their new player.

We expect things to remain civil and work out ... eventually.

Lol so Collingwood are waiting for Grundy to get traded and are then going to try and reneg on their part of the deal. Pretty bold.

Lol and people are going off at how the Dees treated him. At least we arnt trying to cut his pay by a 3rd lol

Would rather run around the 2s

I was interested if Jordon was eligible for compo.

Turns out it’s only for 8+ year free agents. It’s set out in 17.6(a): https://resources.afl.com.au/afl/do...nded-AFL-Rules-effective-28-February-2023.pdf

Bloody better be, he is only 22 and age is a consideration. Kids probably the youngest FA ever.

Would be good to do a good rort for band 1 like we pay some of Grundys salary so Swans can pay Jordan 800k

Could this have been factored into his decision, only club we could probably do a rort with us Swans and he chosen them.
