Duursma Caddy and Moir are the closest thing to a third tall in the draft but all play very differently.Don’t think we need another pure small forward. Motlop, Owies and Durdin should be plenty.
I would like a roaming third tall target with good hands who is good on the lead. Someone in the style of Henry/Johnson/George/Fritsch, who will not get in Harry or Charlie’s way but will cause problems on a 3rd defender.
Also, more creative half forwards who will find the ball 15+ times a game and are comfortable finding a target going into the forward 50. Cuningham will be one if he remains fit but let’s see how he goes. Fisher at his best is good enough but some competition for spots would be nice. We have lacked an elite talent at half forward for a long time.
Martin is somewhere in between both of these types. I hope he stays fit.
- Duursma pretty similar to a mix of Fritsch and Rozee at his best. Has a good step, good speed and really good in the air. Been played more as a mid this year which hasn't done much for his value imo, I liked him as a 3rd option down forward far more. Good piercing kick and can create seperation as a fwd.
- Caddy is basically like Charlie but a bit more agile and better below his knees. Not as good in the air and don't think he has Charlies tank either but he's a pretty close comparison. Can launch the ball from 60 too.
- Moir plays a bit like Membrey imo but up until todays game vs Country I would have said he's turned into one of the biggest squibs in the draft. Seemed completely allergic to contact and had no pace to find seperation. Coaches mentioned he'd been battling a hip issue during the year. Today he showed much more class. Flew for marks, kicked well on both feet and has a good step, set up a few goals for his team.
- Wilson is the best 'creative half forward' in the draft in regards to creating scoring opportunities for teammates up the field. Best runner in the draft in terms of consistent powerful run, good kick and can take a mark inside 50. I see him as a forward half version of Jack Crisp, though could just as likely end up playing half back like Crisp did to start with.
- Callinan and Tholstrup are probably in that next bracket of creative half forwards ur after. Seem to get to good spots up the ground, kick well inside 50 and have a knack for scoring goals. Don't know if I could say much more about them... Don't think they'll be game changers but also wouldn't say no to either.
End of the day though, Watson gives you what all of these players do. He's the best pressure forward, the best goal kicker, the best '3rd option' and the best playmaker up the field. He's a freak and does it all, he's just very small.
