Do you have a link to the article? I can't find anything on Google or the AFL website. Not doubting you, just trying to find the article you referenced.
From the article below:

"For instance, it would have allowed Adelaide to list one of Rory Sloane or Taylor Walker as a veteran for 2024 and opened up another spot on their primary list. The idea was designed to keep veterans in the game without sacrificing a list spot that a youngster may have taken, with the veteran’s full payments still counted in the salary cap."

There's a link in the post above

Yeah it's a classic woozle, just reporting on someone else's speculation as fact, and now it'll snowball until it's considered fact.
AFL media in a nutshell.

Random AFL media bozo #1: A source says player X is likely to end up at Team Y.

Bozo #2: It's been reported that X is heading to Y.

Bozo #3: Multiple reports are that X will be playing for Y.

Bozo #4: X to Y is all but certain and appears to be a done deal for this many years on this coin.

Bozo #5: Player X has turned his back on the big offer from Y and re-signed with Z.

Unfortunately we will probably miss out on all the other elite talent as our picks will be used up on matching bids.
Open question...
Are we completely welded onto the Welsh lad? What happens if a greater need is available to us at our pick?

I genuinely think we did this but farked up the math. To be fair we were always going to get the worst possible result from the AFLs secret sauce formula.
To be fair, BCrouch didn't help the situation with his off-field indiscretions....his value dipped significantly after that.

No one is taking Haynes with out a very nice gift coming with him. Bowes (given age) much better value.

Bowes looks a very average player to my eye. Barely worth selection each week at Geelong this year. They might have made him some promises though. He didn't pick Geelong for no reason.

He might come good but I see nothing but fringe best 22 at this stage.

We only have to pick him once a bid comes in. If we have a pick, then we pick someone else and get him later.

But yes, I think once a bid comes in we will match it. He's too much of a talent to ignore.

Absolutely spot on. Also, depending on the clubs they made up the connection for they will either let it go or criticise the club for not completing the deal (even though they were never actually involved).

Sorry, meant Dood
Yeah, fair enough.

I just wouldn't be getting your hopes up that the AFL will be doing us any favours

The only thing we'll get is a better draw next year next year is in regard to time slots and maybe 1 less obscure location. And that is arguably on the cards anyway based on this years performance.

We'll probably still get at least 2 of Ballarat, NT or Tasmania.

Hopefully we can pick someone else up before him. That's where the value is for father son. So much to play out with a year to go.

Yep.

We're pushing out two players who have been in our best team over the last 3-5 years in exchange for two tenths of * all. In a shitty draft year.

We'll end up with another Ronin O'Connor in exchange for the bloke who was touted as our next captain.

With no one decent likely to be headed our way, it seems like our list will be weaker in 2024 than it was this year.
Greenwood, Keath. We have previous form.

Back on track...

The Herald Sun reported the Crows had flagged interest securing South Australian-raised Demons Harry Petty or Tom Sparrow as compensation for losing McAdam, who’s played 50 games in five seasons at West Lakes. But Melbourne is keen to only part with “a third-round pick or low-round pick swap”, according to the report.

The Herald Sun reported the Crows expect rival offers for Doedee to be as long as five years and as much as $600,000 per season. Should that deal come to fruition, the Crows would likely be handed a second-round compo pick, considering that's what the Lions received last year for losing Dan McStay, who had been offered the same deal length and salary by Collingwood.
So sick of this.

What you do is take McAdams salary then some and you dangle it at the player you want so that they request a trade.

Do we ever do that?

You'd want the pick to be worth it, if you have Bowes getting $500k for another 3 seasons as your 25th best player.

I mean, I would have leapt at the deal as well, but it's not necessarily a home run.

We telegraphed from a long way out that we weren't prepared to retain him so St Kilda used that against us to drive down his price

What we should have done, and what North are doing with McKay, is have an offer for retention at a value slightly below that of first round pick compensation.

However that probably wouldn't have worked either as there wasn't a market for Crouch at that price because he isn't worth that as a player
"so St Kilda used that against us to drive down his price"

That's not possible when they still have to make b crouch happy.

Yes it is, I think I have a bit more knowledge of it than you and most on this board.

There are some in the media and around the AFL in Qld that would disagree with you, Bicks.

I hope it's true that he was unlucky enough to be caught during his first and only indiscretion, as you said, and I'm happy that he has had success back in Melbourne.

Hello, I am wondering if you are Happy for Elliott Himmelberg to leave?
What sort of pick would you want?
Also, is he a better player than Lachlan Keefe?
