Do you have a link to the article? I can't find anything on Google or the AFL website. Not doubting you, just trying to find the article you referenced.
From the article below:

"For instance, it would have allowed Adelaide to list one of Rory Sloane or Taylor Walker as a veteran for 2024 and opened up another spot on their primary list. The idea was designed to keep veterans in the game without sacrificing a list spot that a youngster may have taken, with the veteran’s full payments still counted in the salary cap."

There's a link in the post above

Hello, I am wondering if you are Happy for Elliott Himmelberg to leave?
What sort of pick would you want?
Also, is he a better player than Lachlan Keefe?

Extremely happy for him to leave. I would accept nothing. He would not be an upgrade on Keefe

Brisbane has kick-started talks that will see key playmakers Hugh McCluggage and Keidean Coleman sign new long-term deals with the Lions before the start of next season.

McCluggage and Coleman both come out of their existing deals at the end of 2024, and would be highly-sought-after players if they were on the open market.

But it is understood the Lions are well advanced on bedding down new deals in the pre-season with both McCluggage, 25, and Coleman, 23

I'd say they're only letting 'Berg go if they get at least 2 key position players back in during the trade period (eg Burgess and Chol).

He's better than Keefe, but that's not a hard bar to pass really and wouldn't cost massive either. Whatever it'd take for us to bring in a guy like Burgess most likely.

I think folks are okay with him going, as long as we actually bring in a tall back up as well.

He's probably around a F3 or a pick upgrade?

He's going to offer you more next year than Lachlan Keefe will.

Not sure why some are saying Himmelberg would be a definite upgrade on Keefe. The only reason for that would be age.

Keefe is a proven backup at AFL level. He's not great, but he can play a role and is consistent at it. He's also capable in many roles: forward, back and ruck. Hence why he tends to play 11 games a season.

Elliott Himmelberg is an unproven backup player, who is inconsistent and unreliable. He is unproven in any position other than forward. Coaches trust him less, which is why he plays less often as backup/depth.

If I were GWS I would go for someone else to fill the Keefe role. Mabior Chol for example, if he was available, would surely be a better acquisition

Himmelberg has always shown glimpses, for example there was a period last year where he kicked 10 goals in 3 games. He immediately followed that up by kicking 1 goal in 4 games and was then dropped. That's what you're getting. Before the injury his tapwork was beginning to look much better, but his marking was pretty ordinary most of this year, even in the SANFL.

IF Geelong’s open to a trade down, I’d absolutely look to get that pick

Andrew Mackie didn't explain anything. What a waste of 10 minutes! I've never heard such an amount of meaningless jargon and cliches from someone who didn't impart any information. He'd go extremely well in politics. :(

Mackie doesn’t actually explain why, but I have a theory.

This draft is puss and they want to move 7 into next year where they can restock their midfield with a quality kid.

... and yet his departure opened the way for a youngster who would fill the role for a decade, instead of 1-2 more years.
Who? The bloke we are now pushing out the door in exchange for a half eaten dim sim?

Hey everyone, long time viewer, 1st time poster. Gotta say I really like your train of thought re Dawson. Is Cox the missing piece of the puzzle in defence to make that happen? idk, but he is probably the best available if a decent deal can be made without selling the farm for next years draft.
The Crows don't have missing puzzle pieces. That's a Port Power thing. 🤣

There was I thought? Rumoured at the time that Bombers might be interested?

Not at any sort of level to give us what we wanted, which was first round compensation.

We thought we could push him out the door and bank an easy pick 2 for him. We told everyone that's what we were doing. It turns out no one wanted him for that price, and once we admitted we didn't either, the sham was up. The result was St Kilda's offer was so weak we didn't just miss band 1 compensation, but band 2 as well.

It wasn't St Kilda's contract structure that screwed us, it was that there was no better contract out there. No interest in him at the premium midfielder price we assumed he'd get. No heated competition to secure him and drive up his price

McKay at least it seems North would retain him for anything other than band 1, and so far he has reportedly received two large offers

Isn’t he talking about Murray

Nah, Murray was a 2021 SPP pick. Pretty sure he picked up Talia list spot.

Doedee was who we replaced Keath with. Of course Keath replaced Doedee initially as he got struck down by an ACL.
