Do you have a link to the article? I can't find anything on Google or the AFL website. Not doubting you, just trying to find the article you referenced.
From the article below:

"For instance, it would have allowed Adelaide to list one of Rory Sloane or Taylor Walker as a veteran for 2024 and opened up another spot on their primary list. The idea was designed to keep veterans in the game without sacrificing a list spot that a youngster may have taken, with the veteran’s full payments still counted in the salary cap."

There's a link in the post above

Let’s not forget that Brad Crouch was also busted buying a few rounds of nose beers before the Free Agency period.

He probably got a decent enough deal with the bonuses but he absolutely stuffed us compo wise.

And cost us a future All Australian in Stengle for nothing.

Prick.

we chose to force Stengle out of the club. Brad had nothing at all to do with it.

I doubt we'd care. Depth isn't that important, and retaining Elliot as depth when he's wanted elsewhere sends a message that our club/coaching group is willing to sell out a player career to protect themselves. After all, our actions say he's unwanted.

We can cover whatever depth we've lost by bringing in a SANFL/VFL/WAFL ruck with a rookie pick.

our club should absolutely be willing to sell out player's careers.

I literally just listed all the things we know.

Top 5% of salaries. We know how many players earn each amount, so we know what 5% is.

We don't know directly what the player earns, but the footy industry will have a really good idea, so the AFL isn't going to want to play silly buggers by much.

If he's nowhere near it, they're not going to fudge. If it's right on the line, they'll push it one way or the other depending on what they feel is the "right result".

the original club knows exactly what the RFA is going to earn, they get a copy of the actual playing contract.

At least after today we don’t need to hear people bash our list management over Frampton. Great that Billy got a GF medal and good on him - but arguably the worst winning GF performance inAFL history. Literally did nothing of value

take the tri-colour glasses off son. Compare his opponent's game this week to last week. That said, whichever we kept out of Billy or Berg wasn't really meaningful. It's the Murphy/Sloane extensions that prove our LM strategy is deeply flawed.

Surely no one thinks Champion Data is a reliable judge of anything. It’s hopeless.

There is no way to say Billy had a good game. He didn’t. But I thought Andrew’s had little to no impact on the game.
It’s a reasonable indication that Andrews had a good game, which he did, despite what the commentators tried to convince us otherwise

no they don't.
Age absolutely is..unless its a new change to the rules

Compensation

A club that has a net loss of players transferring to/from other clubs as free agents in one transfer period is entitled to compensation via National Draft picks allocated by the AFL.
The compensation formula produces a points rating for players based on:
1. The new contract of the free agent;
2. The age of the free agent.
Draft picks are allocated to clubs based on the net total points for free agents lost and gained during the transfer period.
Draft picks will be allocated to one of five places:
• 1st round
• end of 1st round
• 2nd round
• end of 2nd round
• 3rd round
In applying the formula, an expert committee reviews the formula outcomes. The committee has the power to recommend alternative outcomes to GM – Football Operations where the formula produces a materially anomalous result.

I thought Andrews destroyed Frampton in the second half and set up Brisbane well from defense

and what of "contract length" and "etc"? Age and $/year (after meeting min 2 years) is all that matters. Contract length is otherwise irrelevant and there is no "etc". People confuse DA with the old expansion era compo.

Would love to know who this ‘expert committee’ is? Hopefully they have done Intermediate Excel and can work out percentages.

How AFL is it that they can recommend ‘alternative outcomes’?

Frampton was shite .
Yes..but think, what impact did his man harris andrews have...it was almost like billy was roles to be a negative forward to occupy andrews. Billy f%$#ed up a simple mark 10m out that would have been a collingwood goal, but andrews impact was negligible to the game and that was a 'win' from collingwoods end

The impact he had on Andrews was a beat up, seriously when he had the opportunity to have a positive affect offensively he was shit, I could have put on a pair of Ronald McDonald footy boots at my age and current condition and done a job equal to Frampton. It was cringe worthy

If Brisbane had got up, we’d all be talking about how Andrew’s picked the team up and carried them over the line in the last quarter.

Bloke was immense in the final term.

I don't mean to pile on but if you think Harris had a quiet day you are too easily influenced by the Vics commentating.

Billy didn't negate him at all and stuffed up not just 1 simple mark but a few. He was worse than average.

Have you actually looked at his game last week?
