Do you have a link to the article? I can't find anything on Google or the AFL website. Not doubting you, just trying to find the article you referenced.
From the article below:

"For instance, it would have allowed Adelaide to list one of Rory Sloane or Taylor Walker as a veteran for 2024 and opened up another spot on their primary list. The idea was designed to keep veterans in the game without sacrificing a list spot that a youngster may have taken, with the veteran’s full payments still counted in the salary cap."

There's a link in the post above

Moves our first pick forward a couple of spots and gets us another first rounder for next year, likely to be in the 10-12 range.

Hmmm might be a bit too much to give up, but more picks for us in the 20's are a waste of time. Drafting Schoenberg/Berry types is getting us nowhere.

Are you serious?

Welsh is still an unknown regards where he will sit by next year's draft, one only needs to look at Ashon Moir this season. Can never have too many 1st round picks going into the next season when they can be divested of in so many ways to help with trades, moving up or even moving down..
or it could go the other way

I think we should trade out of next year and preferably use our draft capital another 23-25yo odd A grader even if we have to over pay significantly

if we need to we can always trade back in next year after welsh bid comes. i just think if he fires next year it will be hard to get rid of our first. I dont like this draft at all.

If this year has taught anyone anything it should be that there is no need to panic and throw in our F1. With the other deals done it's not going to significantly improve our draft position

It will hold its value and it will most likely increase in value as clubs target players in 12 months and offloading it prior to draft won't be a problem.

Jon Ralph reporting the Kangaroo's might offer 14 and a future 1st for pick 11? Presumably there assistant package pick.

It's crazy overs, that why we cant lose holding our f1 for next year now. Either we use it on a possible gun midfielder, trade for a good player or if Welsh turns out to be what we hope then there will be plenty of better deals on offer than we would get now.

That sounds like one of Ralphy's idiotic ideas, why would you pay a end of first round pick to move 3 places.

Where does this 23 - 25 Y.O. A grader magically appear from? Thin air?

There is nothing wrong with this draft, plenty of good players willbe had in the 1st round and no doubt several will slip through to the 2nd round too.

I'd hope my club makes some room for players in the 20-35 region, there are some really good prospects in that region of the draft.

It would only be tempting if the AFL kept giving them out like candy

People also said they were overrated and not that good as recent at last season (some still said that early this season) when their form was a bit patchy.

It's called bias and thinking they won't improve given their age is also bias. If they played for the Crows we'd be finding 100 ways they could still improve and would point to their age to back it up.

Consistency over 4 quarters week in week out is still an improvement opp for Rozee and Butters. They will get better

JHF barely scratched the surface this year. Has enormous upside on what he showed

What is the consensus with North supporters about how your club uses those two future late first rounders, should they be offloading both, one or none this year? Do you want your club gunning hard for pick 1 and what do you guys think you’d have to give up to secure it?

Given they will review them if we keep the 2024 picks (they don't want us to stockpile) then yeah, trade them out for pick(s) this year.

I think the consensus is to go for pick 1 as long as it is not ridiculous, given we are just moving from 2 to 1. It will still be expensive, but if the cost is too prohibitive it seems we would prefer to take a broader range of talent in the draft.

Hard to say about the cost, media seems to think it will be something like 2, one of our later first round picks and one of the 2024 PPs. Who really knows, if another party is involved it can become convoluted.

I reckon North want O'Sullivan and Curtin, (+McKercher) that's why they are looking at that pick around 11.... if they get Geelong's 7 that's who it's for.

We also have interest in him, will be interesting to see that play out
Makes sense, given their shortage of key position players. But why McKercher? Wouldn't Duursma be a better option for them long term?

You are a hard judge, they were super consistent all year. Both already top 10 players in the comp playing every game. No one is saying they wont improve as the comp gets better but you are asking alot to improve enough to move Port up the ladder. That improvement needs to come from others.

JHF probably overtakes those two.

Butters had an unbelievable patch of form but started the season fairly slowly and had another quite 2-3 week patch near when their winning run ended.

Probably harsh on Rozee as he was pretty good every week

Let them down badly in the semi final though. Harsh but ultimately that’s what you get judged on.

No questions over Butters & Rozee's attacking games in the finals ....there was a lot of criticism levelled at both players over their defensive actions

Won't be a problem for JHF when he gets fitter .....his defensive game and tackling was highlighted in his U18 Draft year

It was more than just defensive work against GWS.

Port were smashed in disposals. Rozee had 17.

Port were smashed in clearances. Rozee had none.

Port were smashed in contested possession, Rozee had five.

Compare that to Green who had 29 disposals, 17 contested and 8 clearances, and I imagine that game will play on Rozee’s mind for some time.

He’s a fantastic player and will have time to rectify it, but until then he’ll still be a level below the games top level players.

The problem I see with Rozee is he is a tad thin. I think if he fills out a bit more, he will be fine. right now more powerful mids just get the better of him in 1:1 contests.

The culture at Port under Kern has always been to flood forward as a midfielder first from the contest. So its no surprise that when they lose it out the middle they are scored upon with little midfielder help in transition. Drew seemed to be the only one tasked with getting back. JHF was there a few times.
