Do you have a link to the article? I can't find anything on Google or the AFL website. Not doubting you, just trying to find the article you referenced.
From the article below:

"For instance, it would have allowed Adelaide to list one of Rory Sloane or Taylor Walker as a veteran for 2024 and opened up another spot on their primary list. The idea was designed to keep veterans in the game without sacrificing a list spot that a youngster may have taken, with the veteran’s full payments still counted in the salary cap."

There's a link in the post above

Yes, potentially. Who do you think is ahead at the moment? I'd give it ti Josh by a nose.

Rachele and it's not particularly close.

Though, I think TT issue is the role we have him in, in that he's capped out what he can achieve as a third tall with limited (<70% TOG) minutes.

I think we did pretty well out of the trade period.

Upgraded two second rounders into a 1st rounder.

Got overs for Doedee as free agent compensation, and fair value for McAdam given the circumstances

Didn't pay astronomical overs for Petty. Didn't trade a much more valuable 1st next year into a 1st this year.

Didn't land any major targets but everyone was contracted and most of the available players were trash.

Now we have to cap it off by drafting well, not wasting picks on defenders and the like.

Remember early during the trade period when it looked like not much was happening and posters were getting jumpy:

“Bed wetters why don’t you wait until the end of the trade period to judge”

When asked what one particular poster would accept as the benchmark before being upset with our trade period “not trading Himmelberg if we don’t get Chol” . Hmm high benchmark that.

Well now that we did **** all, those same posters are defending the result “who was available!!!!!”.

We even had BACCS talking down McAdam to justify losing him, only for his recent posting history to show his true feelings before he fell back in line.

Bring back the Pom Poms I say.

That was brutal, really brutal.

How can anyone, but a club sycophant, try and claim this trade period is not another complete failure. We've lost two bid bodied, aggressive senior players, who would have been handy come finals, and replaced them with a bunch of picks in an average draft and a SANFL filler who managed only 1 senior game at the 15th placed basket case that is the Suns ("the best 5 possession game I've seen").

For all the supposed wealth this club has the best we can do in our football dept are amateur hacks like Riccutio, Reid, Ogilvie. Has become a hard club for supporters to still admire.

You are funny, are you trolling??
Doedee and MacAdam have been injured more often then not. Also while both are talented, they were replaced without much loss. Worrell is an upgrade to Doedee in my eyes and offers so much more due to his height and attacking play, Doedee won’t be missed at all. MacAdam will be missed because of his X Factor and freakish marking abilities but 50 games in 4 years and at the age of 28 next year, plus didn’t play much at all this year will not weaken our side

I only defend it because i'd cry otherwise. Got to stay positive. Otherwise I'd end up a crabby old man.

2023

Pick 10. Wilson
Pick 14. Tholstrup

2024

FA. Hayward
Welsh FS
2024 and 2024 first (2023 pick 20 traded) to Dees for Oliver

2025

Petty FA
2025 first and 2026 first for Lukosius

2026 side

Worrell ~ Petty ~ Michalanney
Milera ~ Murray ~ Hinge
Dawson ~ Oliver ~ Soligo
Thilthorpe ~ Rachele ~ Pedlar
Hayward ~ Lukosius ~ Tholstrup
Rankine ~ Fogarty ~ Welsh
Jones ~ Nankervis ~ Dowling ~ Wilson
Keays

Oliver trade most likely to not happen but equally you could foresee McCluggage coming in place as a FA and instead trading up for Draper or Hargrave who replaces Dowling, Keays or Jones.

Your answer is right there.

We had all the money in the world to retain him, and yet he was going.

So - why? We didn't want to keep him? He was committed to going no matter what?

Whatever - it's clearly pretty mutual about him going.

We held out, pushed for a player and when we couldn't get what we wanted, held for an F2, which is better than nearly every media observer thought.

I don't understand fans who are obsessed with winning trade week. Sydney doesn't win trade week, Collingwood doesn't - they just go and get players and pay a reasonable price to close the deal quickly. Essendon wants to win trades and look where it gets them.

AFL players are so entitled these days, macadam crying over another year on his contract and because we didn’t offer it early enough [emoji15]. I just heard Brockman from Hawthorn wanted to leave because they didn’t offer him a contract early enough!! These players are so weak minded. The world is full on entitled rich sooks

Yes, he's trolling. Ignore it.

I dunno, if I was on contracts, I'd have my feelers out when I was in the second half of my contract and in Macadams case, it was his last few months.

It's disappointing but I'm not angry at a guy with a possible 10 year window to earn the best he will maximising that

Isn’t that the case with a number of supporters here including yourself?

Happy to enjoy watching the footy, happy to meander along and defend the club at all counts. It’s because your goal isn’t to win the flag, you just enjoy the ride, no matter if it’s shit.

His manager said he didn’t want to leave Melbourne. I know Saints picked up some of his salary, but I can’t imagine he’s leaving Melbourne for less than the 2 remaining years on his contract at the Saints. Is he a player you want for 3-4 years and taking potentially $600k salary in 2026?
I'm glad Billings thinks he's still relevant enough to be picking MELB over other states ....6 games this year, 8 games last year
