Do you have a link to the article? I can't find anything on Google or the AFL website. Not doubting you, just trying to find the article you referenced.
From the article below:

"For instance, it would have allowed Adelaide to list one of Rory Sloane or Taylor Walker as a veteran for 2024 and opened up another spot on their primary list. The idea was designed to keep veterans in the game without sacrificing a list spot that a youngster may have taken, with the veteran’s full payments still counted in the salary cap."

They are the only ones available?
It’s a pretty good starting point, given it comprises an exact list of players who actually moved clubs this season.

Fair to assume we aren’t the only club seeking A grade talent - all clubs would be doing so. How did those other clubs go? How many guns moved between clubs this year? Precisely zero.

Now I’m sure there is a very small list of players who would only entertain a move to the Crows, so we can’t know for certain, but maybe this just wasn’t the year for shaking out A grade players? Every club struck out there.

The one that concern's me right now is Brayden Cook.

After 3 years I just haven't seen it with him. Even after losing McAdam and Doedee, and with Schoenberg and Murray out, if i'm picking my best 22 for round 1, he's not in it. TBH he's not particularly close either, probably would struggle to make my emergencies list.

Gonna need the mother of all offseasons IMO. I hope for his sake he proves me really really wrong!

Cook is a strange beast. You take McHenry's intensity and hunger and transplant them it Cook and you have a genuine A grade, 200 game player. But ultimately I think he will be a bust because of his lack of desire to be the best he can.

His football is much like Mostyn's BF posting - 5% quality and 95% vanilla.

There's also this...

Reid said Burgess’s versatility would be important while defender Nick Murray recovered from a knee reconstruction that could sideline him for up to three quarters of next season.

He also flagged a potential backline switch for key forward Elliott Himmelberg.

The list boss said Adelaide needed to bring a replacement in for Himmelberg to grant him his wish of joining his younger brother, Harry, at GWS.

Reid said the club, which now had selections 10, 14 and 20 this year, was keen to climb the order before next month’s draft.

It had been in conversations with Geelong, which held pick 8.

“We’ll certainly look to get up … whether that’s between now and the draft or on draft night itself,” Reid said.
The strategy is known as shuffling the deck chairs.

I will be my house on us not improving our draft picks.

The AFL’s annual trade period is now over and we are pleased to emerge from it with one of our strongest National Draft hands in a number of years.

We now hold three first round selections, and as any good footy judge knows, you can never have too much high-end talent.

Over the last two years we have added elite talent in Jordan Dawson and Izak Rankine via the trade period and while it would be nice to bring in players of that calibre annually, it is much easier said than done. The types of players you want and need are not always available either. We made a strong play for Harrison Petty however, the fact he still has two years to run on his contract with the Demons was always going to make things difficult.

Our strategy focuses on being very specific and only targeting players who address needs and fit our overall list profile, rather than just bringing in recruits for the sake of trading. As a Club, we have stayed true to a clear and well thought out strategy in the last few years and now is not the time to be deviating.

In the AFLW, we always have high expectations for our team and time and time again the players, coaches and staff deliver. As the only undefeated team in the competition and with key players in good form, we could not be better placed.

There’s obviously a lot more to play out and based on ladder positions, our next two games against Brisbane and North Melbourne will not only be very challenging but they have the potential to significantly shape our finals path.

We definitely have enough talent and it’s underpinned by grit and resilience, which was on show in the recent road win over reigning premier Melbourne. Given the way that game unfolded, it was arguably the greatest home and away win in our AFLW history.

I’d also like to congratulate all the award winners from this month’s Club Champion presentation and in particular Jordan Dawson, who claimed his first Malcolm Blight Medal. He has made a significant impact on the field over the past two seasons and he continues to show great leadership in and around the Club too. Jordan and the rest of the guys are currently on leave however, it is not unusual to walk past the gym at West Lakes and see a dozen or more of them working out together. The willingness to hold each other to account has been one of this playing group’s strengths over the past couple of off-seasons.

Nominations are now open for our Member Engagement Panel which is an important way in which you can help shape the Club’s immediate future.

We are looking to fill the 10-person panel with a wide representation of our membership base who can provide insights and feedback directly to the Board and Executive Management.

Starting from today, you have just over two weeks to nominate for the panel and for more information or to submit your application CLICK HERE.

I encourage you to consider nominating and as always, thanks for your ongoing support.

Regards, Tim
I can't believe he actually resorted to mentioning the AFLW team to try and find a positive out of this year's trade period disaster. "Look over there". The fact he did also says to me the club knows it was a complete fail.

With respect to top shelf talent, neither did any of the other 17 clubs. We aren’t the anomaly this year - literally no club had success in doing so.
I agree, but not many clubs have the cap and collateral, not are at that stage of their rebuild.

Some clubs were active, we can criticise the players they brought in but time were tell if they were worth it. Essendon spent a lot of cash but no draft capital, so I’d consider what they did a win.

It's easy to be cynical about our cap space given the history with the "Tippett warchest" that we rolled forward and rolled forward... and ended up delivering nothing.

However here we are, with an (unfortunate) opportunity to roll existing contracts forward. It would be tempting to go straight to Soligo and Rachele given their lengthy deals but I wouldn't go that way.

You'd risk having them here during their expensive years, then getting poached to go back home at the back end.

Rather I'd roll forward the guys on contracts who no one would ever try to recruit. Hello ROB. Also Keays, Murphy, Schoenberg, Milera, Butts

You would hope Reid has gone to the manager of every gun midfielder & said we will give them $1m pa to join the Crows.

Like with Dawson & Rankine, need to start these discussions years in advance.

Brad Crouch - pick 2

We had a deal in place in 1998 for pick 3 with Collingwood to select Ryan Fitzgerald. Clay Sampson eventually refused to go, so the trade fell over and the pick was traded to Sydney
Nothing in our recent history suggests we have the appetite for it.

We had a crack for JHF & in hindsight we were better off it fell through.

Will be interesting to see whether we are successful moving up the order this year.

How did we go backwards in 24 by gaining a 2nd round pick?

What did you guys get?

I have no idea 😂 Seems the last part (teams names starting with M-W are missing).
I’d imagine it will be a C or thereabouts. They didn’t even know we picked up Brockman for example, such is their ignorance towards anything outside of Victoria.
