Do you have a link to the article? I can't find anything on Google or the AFL website. Not doubting you, just trying to find the article you referenced.
From the article below:

"For instance, it would have allowed Adelaide to list one of Rory Sloane or Taylor Walker as a veteran for 2024 and opened up another spot on their primary list. The idea was designed to keep veterans in the game without sacrificing a list spot that a youngster may have taken, with the veteran’s full payments still counted in the salary cap."

There's a link in the post above

I think I have this correct .....we now have to decide whether to add Borlaise to the main list or as a Rookie

Main List - gets a 2 year Contract
Rookie List - gets a 1 year Contract

Surely we only want Borlaise on a 1 year Contract .....but it'll mean risking losing him at the Rookie Draft

Very dominant in the VFL for a couple of years now, I suspect someone will give him a 2nd chance. He’s too good for that level.
Even based on some of his AFL games, his numbers aren't bad. Any team who is bottom 4 in contested possessions and clearances should consider him IMO. West Coast in particular should have a look at him - he's an experienced body, so he can take some punishment in place of their younger mids (Ginbey, Long, etc.).

Last year we played some good footy for the first time in years. Our inexperience killed us last year IMO. However, we're year older which is positive other than Tex.

Hold the faith....we're coming. But Mel said it best...

Holding Mel Gibson GIF

Our risk is that we’ll continue to select all 3 of Sloane, Murphy and Smith even if they are delivering nothing. And you can’t be genuinely good all year if you’re regularly carrying players just for the experience and continuity points. This is our insurmountable Achilles heel.

The good old AFC average games experience quota.

I think we are better off delisting Hamill and picking him up as a rookie if he gets through.

Given the opportunity, Borlase will be picked up by the mob down the road. Less risk with Will.

So, you're happy to given Borlaise a 2 year Contract ....IMO the definition of a list clogger

The club wants to keep him, so you think they are making a mistake?
I don't mind as a "break glass" option .....but a 1 year Contract is right, not 2 years ....Club feels the same way, which is why they sought the exemption.

It's a dilemma

The industry is too small for feelings to impact.

Ultimately there are no such things as "trading relationships" or whatever, more every team is actively trying to screw each other over.

They’re all the same people, they just want to win or minimise loss each event. Being unprofessional and putting personal agenda ahead of best outcome for the club would very much be the exception. Getting walked over to be seen as a good trading partner just results in being walked over more and more.

The other bit of bull$hit that is regularly regurgitated during trade fortnight is that non-involved players give a crap when clubs play hardball on acquisition/sale. It’s infantile.

Reid said yesterday we will keep him so it’s only a matter how, looks like he’s on the list so that has to mean delistings. Keeping Sloane looks better all the time

Depends how you define Elite..And there would be plenty I've missed.

Modern Day

Nick Riewoldt
Alistair Lynch
Matthew Richardson
Jack Riewoldt
Jeremy Howe
Toby Nankervis
Brody Mihocek
Ben Brown
Jake Kolodjashni
Alex Pearce
Grant Birchall
Daryn Creswell
Adrian Fletcher
Brendon Gale
Mitch Hibberd
Jarrad Waite

VFL champions
Peter Hudson
Darrell Baldock
Royce Hart
Ian Stewart
Michael Roach
Rodney Eade
Robert Shaw

Top 4 of those are elite and didn't come to mind so I will back pedal there. The rest are okay with a late first rounder or second round pick. Not elite imo

Yeah agree .....probably would have preferred to rookie an experienced SANFL / VFL KPD, over giving Borlaise 2 years

Why on earth would they pick Borlase up an undersized KPD when they've just brought in 2 athletic tall defenders. Even if they do he'll be playing SANFL unless they have a bad run of injuries much the same as with us.

Yep, fair call. But it is Port and they do some weird **** in the name of PR and selling false hope.

HUH?

He's been around the same mark for months and possibly amongst several others in contention for our pick 10 or 14.

I doubt he'd be the target if as Justin Reid stated we'd like to move up the board if we can.

His next post on the matter will be how ‘the entire board dismissed him as a late 3rd rounder at best and ha ha, vindication’. And that’ll happen even if there’s only these 3 posts on the subject.

Yup. That's one of those contracts which hurt the soul of a club, seeing it means one of clubs best players (I'm sure there is a better way to describe it, but I'm having a brain fart) go out with a whimper instead of as a valued best 22 member.

Bit like Thommo in 2017.

At least we only played Thommo in the 1s once in 2017. Sloane is locked in all year.
