Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

RAS doesn't have dangerfields pace or burst

He's more of a Matt Crouch to me
I think if you're being generous, he could be a tackling, non-floggish Cripps or potentially even Fyfe (not the level obvs). Large with power from size, but not a lot of speed. Even if he was Fyfe without the marking, that would be great.

Ras is a hard running midfielder that kicks goals and wins clearences. Maybe not Gulden but idk who else he compares to.
Yeah I think Gulden is a long way off.

He's a contested inside player who runs both ways and tackles. A cross between Fyfe and Andy (but probably not as good as either although we can dream).

You don't mean Erasmus here right? Gulden is one of the best kicks in the league

Rory Sloane / Luke Parker type.

Hard working type with some X factor, lacks polish but makes up for it with effort and some arial capabilities.

Not sure where that fits into our future mid mix.

If he truly comes on, his ceiling is Cunnington which would be amazing. Not sure he has the girth there but it's the best comparison I can think of as a contested beast that's not particularly fast but also defensive. Sorry Jako but I think Gulden is a completely different player

Erasmus needs to be the first hands on the ball, handball to Johnson and to do that he needs to be carrying the muscle to get pounded for two hours and remain in the contest.

I have high expectations for him. He is very bottom aged for his draft year and is being compared to the likes of Johnson who got to spend the back half of a preseason and start of the season in the gym diverting effort and calories into gaining size while Erasmus was running his arse off, literally. It meant Johnson needed to build his running slowly end of last year but should Erasmus have a lower leg injury he will come back a monster in six to twelve months.

Erasmus in two years is the player we would play on the opposition's version of Fyfe.

25 touches, 15 handballs, no clearances but ten score involvements and ten tackles.

Then we build his running with that size to make his opponent accountable when we have the ball, he leads into space to take marks when we move the ball out of defence.

He will be a weapon.

All of these comparisons for Erasmus, and I am surprised nobody has thought of our own backyard and one Michael Barlow. Pretty much the same attributes ... big mid, ball winner, defensive, average field kick but can kick goals, slowish off the mark but will run all day. Same also applies to Crowley apart from the ball winning (but that was never his role). I think Erasmus can end up somewhere in between the two as his floor.

I find it frustrating watching how good he is when I was calling to draft him in the MSD a few years back. Honestly would rather have been wrong in wanting him.

Another suggestion is Jack Carroll. Has he been Carlton'ed? Contracted until 2024, so maybe we wait it out and see how he progresses and then try and lure him back if he looks OK.
In some ways Martin is strange one. I took an interest in watching him at WAFL.

There was quite a bit to like - good skills, good athleticism, nice size etc. My criticism of him at the time would've been he didn't get enough of the ball. Still wanted him in the rookie draft that year though - I'm sure those posts would still be around somewhere.

Essendon virtually played him in role that helped him get more of the footy almost straight away and he did.

Ras isn't fast, but he's not Barlow slow either.
