Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

Erasmus was the kid getting up an hour earlier than the others to spend that time doing extra running and fitness preparation before school in Year 12.

If there's a spectrum of fitness effort, and McCarthy and early Walters is up one end, Fyfe and Erasmus are firmly up the other. I have no doubt ras will do everything it takes to take his spot and hold it and improve on whatever needs improving. Watch and see.

Yeo wasn’t fantastic at Brisbane, Ras is already ahead of him at the same age.
The fact we didn’t want Elliot in hindsight was a mistake.

We took Alex Pearce with 37 (our equivalent of what wce paid)

2013 was the year we HAD to go tall, I can see why we skipped

It's fair to criticise the club for getting us in a position where we had to only pick talls

The bigger mistake was not picking Yeo in the draft. We drafted the exact same profile (190cm HBF) in Forster with the pick immediately before Yeo was taken.

Yeah that's true,

Especially as Neale left us anyway, it was said that him having Forster really helped him settle in, maybe we should have held Forster for another 5 years lol

Sliding doors moment, we only picked Neale to help retain Forster (who we obviously rated very highly) if we’d taken Yeo instead, we probably wouldn’t have taken Neale.

Really wanted Erasmus to take Mundy’s spot this season. Can see the value in JOM though.
Could it push Ras out the door? Or will he preserve and push to make the team second half of 2023 and full time in 2024?
I hope he does preserve.
He can jam his way through packs, leaving the oppo with jelly legs.

We should have traded a player for Yeo.

There is never a better time to trade a depth/fringe player than when you have made a GF.

Meh. You can't nail every pick. Our drafting has been pretty good generally.

Now this, I agree with 100 percent. Shame we couldn't pull the trigger on trading him in.

People forget how desperate we were for young talls in 2013.

It’s all great saying we could’ve traded for Yeo but the club had put off drafting replacements for Pavlich, McPharlin and a non-existent second KPF far too long. We traded for Gumbleton that year - that’s how desperate we were for talls.

Trading pick 17 for Yeo instead of drafting Apeness or whatever tall slipped through is so easy in hindsight. You have no idea which tall slips through a week before the draft let alone during trade week.

If future picks were tradeable back then maybe it was doable imo. In reality we just needed talls.

Didn't we have interest in Jesse White in 2013 too? We REALLY were desperate

AFL is a cruel game sometimes.

We drafted J Lo at pick 2 and that was our second tall. Retires at 28 due to injuries

That is 100 % incorrect regarding Neale. The club knew the Crows were the only other club interested in Neale in the National draft. Neale getting drafted by Freo had nothing to do with Forster, they were interested in both players for different reasons.

Not sure that would’ve made the situation any better tbh.

Pavlich, Longmuir and McPharlin were all born in the same year so we’d still need the young talls coming through.

Maybe we don’t recruit Gumbleton if we had Longmuir at that stage but we traded **** all for him anyway so I fail to see how that helps us get Yeo.

We would of had a better run out of him then Gumby tho tbh

White wouldn’t have been enough of an upgrade on Zac Clarke or Jon Griffin to get us any closer to a flag.

Again hindsight is so great but in another timeline Gumbleton plays through a whole finals series and wins us a flag. He was actually good enough to make a difference - White wasn’t.

I’d trade pick 60-odd for Gumbleton again in the same scenario.
