Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

He isn't reporting anything. He gave his opinion and refers to some article he read in the West Australian few weeks back from Suma lol 😆
Hopefully you are right. But we have all seen this movie before sadly. As always there will be some half truths interspersed amongst the bullshit.
Hard to see Geelong offering Darcy $1 m a season. Would be completely against their philosophy on paying rucks top $$.
Also they are supposedly into Bailey smith too. 🤷‍♂️

This Is my take.
Darcy’s manager Scott Lucus said he had had zero contact with Cats re Darcy. You can see how rumours start though, Suma writes rubbish that is refuted and a couple of months later what’s his name on Footy Classified vaguely remembers the article but forgets the denial. Nek minet someone reads the article and then is told about Footy Class and thinks that’s TWICE I’ve heard this rumour. Must be something in it!🤦🏻‍♂️

Yep. This is the same Sam McClueless who reported that he had it on good authority that Harley expressed his wish not to come to weagles. But the weagles list manager had spoken to Harleys manager and they were both surprised by the news reported

Matthew Lloyd is worth listening to if this story develops further. He would be talking to his brother who is Geelongs list manager. More reliable source than McClure.
If he did leave, what would we get from Geelong? Pick 15. Hardly seems enough.

Thinking about this in more detail - there no way he would be traded to Geelong in 2023 really. Unless they stumped up a massive trade bounty, that kind that would be unprecedented for them.
He’s a free agent in 2024 so at worst we would get a first round compensation pick for him. Using 2023 ladder positions that would be pick 5, and we also get an extra year of Sean in 2024 playing for us.
Therefore that is the floor price or minimum price we would accept this year in a trade.
It’s a very similar situation to the Jacob hopper trade last year actually. GWS simply told Richmond if you don’t give us two first rounders we will just hold onto him for another year and get pick 5 in compensation.
So unless Geelong stump up with pick 14 or 15, next years F1 and probably an additional second rounder from somewhere this year, he’s not going anywhere I don’t reckon.

He’d be restricted free agent too, so we can still match and force a trade. No way we trade him now.

And unless there’s been some recent development since a month ago, both Geelong and Darcy’s manager said they hadn’t spoken since 2021.

Well last time I heard from Scott Lucas he said Sean was "playing at Freo in 2024."

I’m surprised no Ashton Moir or Jack Delean in top 30… would love one of them at freo pick

I would take the article with a grain of salt. For example Collard is listed down elsewhere as 185cm (not 179cm) and I think that is probably correct seeing him next to others.

Callinan may go earlier but IMO Delean is a better forward with better attributes.

Moir I and others have made my view on him clear.

I think Hardeman is a potential wingman and has played there at junior level. Again the article has him at 185cm but I am pretty sure he is more like 188cm.

After Neale, Hill etc I know better than to outright to dismiss something when one of the "big" journos reports it.

That said, not sure what Geelong are putting on the table this year to turn our heads.

Maybe this explains the Knobel drafting last year (4 rucks more than most carry)
I don’t think Knobel has to do with much. He’s there for development. Very raw at the moment especially for a ruck. Prolly take him a good 4/5 years in the system to come good. By then Darcy would be 29/30 and towards the end of his career.

That's what I told myself last year, but quality players don't retire at 30 and Knobel isn't sitting around for 3+ years waiting for Darcy to call time when he is 24.

Obviously its just a hypothesis, but it wouldn't surprise me if this partially informed our drafting last year.

Funniest part about this is Suma will hear/watch this and then claim his article was right because others are reporting it (ya know... from his own article)

That's how media works these days. Start with any stupid or outrageous comments, the next click bait jurno mentions it, then it goes on to other click bait drop kick and then it's quoted as a fact 🤔

A spare ruck in development is not just insurance, but also trade currency in the bank. Developed rucks aquired on the cheap always seem to hold decent trade value. Pretty smart to have one or two learning the craft in the 2s. We might break the glass on one of them this week.

Darcy and Knobel being our rucks in 2025 or even before isn't unlikely. Jackson will be more value as a power forward.

I thought so too, until Meek walked for nothing.
Was it nothing? We drafted Meek at pick 69 in 2017 and he debuted in 2021 when Darcy was injured. He was handy, capable depth.

Then we traded him and the Dogs future 2nd for Jaeger O'meara and a 4th.

Not sure how to value that, but it doesn't seem like nothing.

We then traded that F4 for pick 40.

So deal went

WB F2 + Meek > JOM + 40

The way I view it is an early third for Meek.
