Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

All parties on same page, expected a deal until atleast 2026 to be done soon.

Would take him to being an UFA?

2 years a little underwhelming but will take it

It still another 3 seasons. I think it’s a great outcome. Hopefully we don’t continue pissing away our cap on mediocre contributors.

If he wasn’t committed to the club he wouldn’t be signing at all. There’s a number of reasons it might be a bit shorter than we’d hope.

Let’s be honest there’s still some uncertainty with how him and Jackson work out long term. We did look better with Jackson’s mobility later in the season despite the poor opposition ruck wise.

From the clubs point of view Darcy gets injured a lot and they may have seen it as a risk signing on for much longer.

There’s also a rise in the salary cap due in the near future - a shorter deal allows him to re-negotiate a bigger deal later whilst committing to the club and shutting up Sumich, Cornes etc to a degree now. I’m sure they’ll be negative about a reasonably short deal for a player like Darcy but if it’s done before trade week there’s no more stories about Darcy getting traded for some time.

On a slightly related note there’s more room in our 2027 cap to re-sign Cox and Schultz (and Brayshaw in 2025).

His last extension was only 2 years too, but that took him to free agency so made more sense. I do believe he’s set on being part of our first flag, but also a big family guy. If he wins a flag with us I can see him going home

The real reason why Chol is a non-starter is player-side I'd assume. There's logic behind Gold Coast trading him obviously, there's logic behind Freo getting him (unless it significantly interferes with the "big name" Carnthedockers said we're chasing probably next year), but there has to be a good half a dozen teams that should want Chol more than us.

Collingwood should probably want him if they didn't blow too much of their salary cap on average talls last season. Essendon are giving Sam Weideman games. Melbourne should've gone after Lobb rather than Grundy last season, maybe they can correct that mistake with Chol. All the bottom 3 teams could use Chol. St Kilda maybe as well? There's probably teams I'm forgetting about, but the point is there's several destinations that can offer him more assured game time than we can.
Big name may have been the wrong terminology. He was a high draft pick. This probably gives it away. I’ll be watching his contract status.

If the definition of high pick is top 10 then, assuming it is someone from 2018-2021, it has to be Logan as he is the only WA player that doesn't either play for us or has re-signed.
Yeah that'd be the assumption, I'm also assuming chasing doesn't mean getting.

Technically Naughton is also a top 10 pick, but he'd definitely be a big name.

He's like many young forwards that he's inconsistent, but jeez he'd set up our list.

I just don’t see that trade being done. Paying lots for Jackson is one thing, we and everyone else knew what we were getting, a very rare type of player. I don’t see Sydney giving Logan up easily and it wouldn’t come cheap. Too risky to sell the farm again this soon for a not yet developed (albeit talented) player
