Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

I'd be genuinely surprised if Logan is interested. If for no other reason than the Swans don't lose a lot of player (Dawson I suppose).

If he wants to go, it doesn't matter if the Swans don't want to let him go, he'll be OOC. No doubt he will still cost plenty.
Apart from the obvious WA factor, I think the appeal may come from how much we chase him. Seems like when we want a player, we really don't play hard-to-get: see that Jackson article on the AFL website. If a similar situation happened with Logan, that probably puts us in good stead to try to poach him.

Can only imagine that we'd be looking to needle at the fact he was subbed out this year vs GWS and, more importantly, was dropped for the GF last year.

Hopefully Treacy has a terrific season next year and shuts down any talk of trading in another KPF. He kicked 15 from 17 games this season. If he can kick 25+ that'll be good enough for me. Sturt is the one for me that is set for a big year.

I've always understood McDonald is very happy in Sydney so I'd be surprised if it happened but reading the Jackson article today, when Walls like's a WA kid, he's all in and we reportedly were very keen on Logan from his draft year. I'm pretty sure we are chasing very hard

Haven't quite seen anything to get super excited with McDonald. Sure, he has done OK so far, but it's hard to tell how good he can get. Whereas with Amiss you can see the superstar ability. McDonald seems a bit cumbersome, like an upgraded/taller version of Ryan Murphy. The latter actually had a pretty similar 3rd year to what McDonald is having this year, only with less games played.

Yeah, Amiss is the better player, I have no doubt about that. McDonald I think is a Todd Marshall level (maybe slightly better) of a good KPF for 10 years but not someone people think is special

I’d be surprised if we aren’t after JVR, would really compliment Amiss, wrecking ball type and imo shows more intent than McDonald.
Not a big name, but building a pretty big reputation as one the preferred forward options at the Dee’s.

Why would McDonald come back to Western Australia in the first place when he's now the guaranteed #1 key forward at Sydney?

Is he? Sydney are poised to try and buy a gun key forward on a massive contract over this year or next.

If we start really unicorning with Jackson though, maybe we need that extra tall even if Treacy takes another step. So to amend the Old El Paso ads slogan: Por qué no los tres?

I think the big name is Hogan

Maybe its part of the master plan. Stack all our quality players into 3-4 drafts and then trade heavily for as many other quality players from those drafts that you can get your hands on. Once they hit their prime at the same time we are an unstoppable force.

I don’t get why so many are obsessed with trading in a key forward, it hasn’t worked for freo since modra. Better off staying away from the big names (Naughton & McDonald) and drafting one. A forward line of Amiss Jackson & Tracey will work in time.
Because the team is primed to peak between 2025-2028. We don't need an 18 year old to hit their peak in 2029. We need a 22 year old to hit their peak in 2025. If I was Walls I'd be looking at every good West Australian key position player (forward and back) between the ages of 21-25. It's time to go all chips in.

Taylor is the only one worth "all chips in".

I'd only look at KPFs if we don't think Treacy will come on because he does a lot right. Probably one of the best KPFs without the ball in the league.

Mcdonald is a big upgrade on Treacy. Is it possible most are over rating Treacy?

Bloody hard to know where to rate Treacy. He does look too good for WAFL, and is still young - but next year is his fourth in the AFL system and I reckon we will have more of an idea then. He really needs to improve his marking. Drops a lot of them for a tall forward. At the end of the day, he still has only kicked 15 goals for the year. Needs 30-40 to be a good centre half forward at AFL level. Mihocek has averaged 40 goals a year for the past 3 years. If he reaches Mihoceck level in the next 2/3 years it will go a long way towards us winning a premiership. It's a big if though.
