Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

I think they've been searching desperately to fill the gap of Luke Jackson all season, Grundy is too Gawn like to do that but Chol is more like the forward target they've been looking for than Grundy.

I think they will consider replacing Grundy with Chol, banking the extra cash and moving on from that experiment.

I expect they will also look to shop around all of Brown, McDonald and Schache knowing all three are out of contract next year and all three are looking like finishing their careers at AFL level at that time.

Gold Coast could really have a choice between the future first of Melbourne plus a Brown/McDonald or the future first of Freo plus Taberner for Chol and pick #4.

It is essentially the same situation at both clubs. Both new clubs offering fwd/ruck positions, both new clubs dropping a mature body off the list in the same relative position to accomodate Chol
Schache Just signed a new deal.
McDonald will play tomorrow.
They won’t be shopping them around.

As I said I’d be surprised if Melbourne wanted chol. He’s not a goodwin kind of player

Schache getting another deal is mind blowing. Just, how?

Assuming North have to match a bid for Sanders, there is going to be some decent opportunity to grab a first round pick off someone for points, I'd be disappointed if we arent one of them. Assuming Dogs cant get the GC pick, 4, 16, 17 and 29 should all be up for grabs and given the rumoured player movement, I see only Us, Brisbane (if Robertson leaves), Essendon (if BZT leaves), Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney with the excess picks to grab one of the two teens picks (pick 4 is a bit more open)

Interesting article about how Richmond might be looking for a mystery forward ... On the podcast apparently Jon Ralph says it could be Matt Taberner. What would he even be worth?

TIGERS EYEING KEY-POSITION GOALKICKER

Richmond is keen to bring in a key forward to help cover the loss of retired star Jack Riewoldt, according to Herald Sun reporter Jon Ralph.

Tom Lynch’s foot injury this season meant Riewoldt shouldered a heavy burden inside 50 for the Tigers in his final AFL season.

Speaking on the Herald Sun Footy Podcast, Ralph said there was a “mystery forward” the Tigers were keen on, but ruled out Carlton’s Jack Silvagni, Gold Coast’s Chris Burgess and a homecoming for Sun Mabior Chol.

Is it official that North have access to Sanders with a pick under 40?

It’s called depth.

When posters say trade out JOM or Brodie….why? Two proven mids who can be starters in the middle at the drop of a hat. Never trade out proven depth..especially if their contract isn’t an expensive one.
Err not a like for like comparison. This is like making a counter point just for the sake of it. Bizarre.

Schache is more like a Corbett, who would probably be delisted if he didn't have a contract. Schache is proven to be nowhere near AFL level, he's not depth, he's a list clogger.

Reading between the lines I really do believe CDTs mystery man could be DGB now. He does fill a need as a quality back up tall swingman type that in time will takeover from either Cox or Pierce. Without Hamling who we all thought was long gone the cupbard is pretty bare. DGB's versatility forward or back was always something that was talked about and there was a lot of interest on this board as well in his draft year. Has'nt shown to be a star yet but thats not really his role.
A lot to playout however now with West Coasts interest and the Hawks wanting to improve picks.
Gonna bust out my Sherlock Holmes getup for this one: I think when you combine this
We are chasing a big name, but more likely to be next year, and could be hard to get. Been told we are into a few guys this year, but they aren’t big names. I suspect sharp is one, but I haven’t had that confirmed.
with this
Big name may have been the wrong terminology. He was a high draft pick. This probably gives it away. I’ll be watching his contract status.
then there's no way it's DGB. It probably has to be someone where there's ambiguity about whether they're a big name or not.

With DGB there's 0 ambiguity: he's not a big name at all (well unless we're talking literal name length). With Logan there's some ambiguity: he's not close to being an elite tall fwd yet obviously, but he's been groomed for that Buddy replacement role, is kinda a key player in a finals team and has shown signs that he can be 1 of the next elite tall fwds (tho equally could be the next Eric Hipwood, who reached the level of "AFL quality tall fwd" fairly quickly then plateaued).

Ben King? Why?
A new coach will change things but he is out of contract end of 2024 playing for Gold Coast ,plenty would be after him. And Im sure although on good money where he is you would think the lure of a better performing team would be of interest.

I think most will hope you are right Sherlock

Anyone else hear the taberner to Richmond rumour that Ralph has apparently brought up?
Yes.

He has shown to be capable at AFL level. Done well in the VFL this year rucking a bit and kicking 29 goals for the year. Good depth to have.

If Taberner is offered a deal elsewhere for money in 2025 or even 2026 on top of the current 2024 contract he has with Fremantle he needs to take it and thank the footy gods - but he would have earned that, he is a phenomenally hard working man.

As much as I'd like to move Taberner on, there's a part of me that would feel better if he ended up as a one club player. Let him retire on his own terms next year with us.
