Hi all, sorry for the intrusion

what's the story with Ainswerth? Essendon on the look out for a small defender, he could fit the bill. Just a strong AFL side that he can't break into? not good enough? injury this year?

Spell his name right you must.

Tell you we will.

Good small defender. Behind Starcevich but if you need someone to lock down on a player he's a solid choice. Has a real junkyard dog about him.

Can also play wing and midfield, so adds versatility and depth to a list.

Combination of being not the best kick and how much depth we have in terms of small defenders. Has played on the wing at AFL level, as well as spending time in the midfield in the reserves.

If he wanted to leave for more opportunity I think that would be around the mark.

His best/favourite position is rebounding HBF or wing, but his poor kicking lets him down. Would do OK as a lock down small defender.
I think we love him and his attitude but his disposal hasn't improved since he's been in the game and we've seen what a difference it makes to have guys down back who can set up the play with accurate kicking to position.

I'd be sorry to lose Answerth as I think he's a good player and great depth, but you can't deny players a chance to go somewhere else if they think they'll get more regular footy there.

I've seen some interesting work from him in the reserves that might suggest he could be a competent wingman. That ranging goal last week from across his body was super impressive.

Let's lock it in!
Please excuse me but we would like a 1st rounder and Redman instead for Answerth Yoda_, otherwise it’s NO DEAL :p

Do we play him forward if our defence is set? (Especially on the ultra slim chance that Adams comes back).

He’s a pretty good player down back, but a lot of those skills are directly transferable to a defensive tall role ala McStay, and added bonus if he is a good kick.

Doedee? I would say no. He’s an out and out interceptor and would be more comparable in skill set to like Moore where their best position is ultimately down back.

Doedee without his injury would be attractive for a lot of clubs.
With that injury a bottom 4 side with spare salary cap space may take the gamble.
I don't think it is a good investment for the Lions.

I think it is. His injury history should in theory make him a bit cheaper but also, we need to plan for life after Lester and Gardiner is a walking injury himself. As good as Lester has been, he isn’t getting any younger and as Rich has shown, when the end comes due to age, it can come with an absolute thud.

Doedee is at a great age for our list. He allows us to succession plan past Lester/Gardiner. We also don’t know what McKenna plans to do next year yet either.

In they eye ? Gruesome.

I really like the mix we have down back . McKenna plays a lot bigger than a flanker and is strong ,tough and skilful. He's going to be a complete gun once we release the shackles. Wilmot has the flair. Starc is tough and fearless. Pressure is off Kiddy to be the playmaker so he can bob up when the opportunity is there. Lester mops up and is a steadying influence.

I really hope they don't mess with this.
Wilmot also has a whopping kick - makes great distance when he clears the ball out of the danger zone.

Plays for Gold Coast.

Often injured half forward.

Family moved up to the Coast as well, unlikely to leave.

He’s a smaller inside midfielder who has been pushed to the flanks.

Not the best disposal by foot, but can play as a lockdown defender, or as a defensive small forward.

Has also played wing, but we use our wingers primarily in a defensive role, and don’t play through them much at all.

Has played mid forward in the reserves this year.

We have a thing about names ATM.

Years ago we had Jackson Paine on our list.

Now we have Jack Payne, who is awesome and getting noticed a lot.

But the media, including the guys who call games and should know his name by now, are still all calling him Jackson Paine and it's pissing us off big time. Even browney got it wrong once.

So the response to your query might seem pedantic, but it's just an extension of our current situation.

Maybe we have a look at Brodie McLaughlin who is OOC from the Suns.
193cm 87kg forward 26 years old in November.
Sitting behind King, Casboult, Lukosius, Chol. They also have the older Burgess (under contract) playing forward.
McLaughlin is second (2 goals behind) in the VFL goal kicking with 29.19 Burgess 3rd with 28.12.
Also averaging 16 disposals and 6.4 marks a game.

I would rather we look at someone like McLaughlin or a defender somewhere already in the AFL system then go after Doedee.

Suns also have Jed Walter coming through in the draft this year.
Chol is kind of out of favour now.

Would love to grab McAndrew out of Gold Coast. He plays like a young Harris Andrews, lanky, really tall and can mark it.

Each clubs Coleman medal best for 2022
After this Pies game he may get a recall but not sure he can play defense ;)

Gold CoastMabior Chol (44)
Levi Casboult (35)
Izak Rankine (29)

You wouldn’t think Casboult will last much beyond this year so he may get more of a go next year.

Someone here I think said that McKenna is keen to stay, but has been told by the club that they’re leaving contract talks to the end of the season.

Which is a bit odd tbh but given that I don’t think we’ve had a single extension announced yet this year it probably tracks.
