Hmmm [emoji848] let me think … Lester… by a mile! Doedee is 187cm, the same height as Starcevich while Lester is 192cm, which does allow him to match up a bit better on the taller forwards. He is also a better footballer. I am not too sure about the wisdom of drafting a bloke who is recovering from a major knee injury.

Surely there is an aging defender from his Hawthorn days that Fagan could make a play for. Maybe Fages could tempt former Hawk defender Kaiden Brand to join us on a multi year deal from West Adelaide. Brand is Captain at West, so Fagan would have to include him in the Leadership Group as a sweetener.

Alternatively, Fagan might look at getting a decent key position forward to the club. Fagen would have Luke Breust’s number, surely.

Doedee is 190cm.

Are you sure Adelaide aren’t pumping him up? Could be like those ‘Collingwood six footers’ that the members of The Over 50’s Clique will tell you all about.

He’s also stacked on a kilo I see. Too many pie floaters.

Lester is also 190cm according to this

This is political correctness gone mad! I blame the Government for confiscating rulers in primary school to stop kids giving each other ‘bum stingers’. Nobody can measure anymore!

I am going to trust the Club Nathan Barley

I don't think I'm going the early crow but 3KZ has been proven right about Lester.

Sometimes you just have to believe what you see and Lester is playing with A grade intelligence and support for his team mates.

A test comes as it always does against stronger opposition but on anything displayed this year he's light years ahead of anyone who would replace him , including Dizz.

He's actually taking grabs over his head like he's 190.

What I love about him now is that he's always looking to set up an offensive play . take the handball ,run on , an aspect of Ryan's game I didn't think existed.

I guess he knows this is it as far as his career is concerned and he's playing like it.

Thanks martinson - you are an astute judge and coming from you that means a lot. I just hope Fagan realises what an incredible asset he has in Ryan Lester.

How good was his chase down spoil in the third quarter and subsequent shepherd that allowed McCluggage to get it to McCarthy, to get it to Ah Chee GOAL! I rewatched the game today and after he kicked the goal everyone got around Ah Chee and Lester gave him a pat on the back and was jogging back to his position in the backline, when Ah Chee specifically called out to Lester to give him praise. Watch the vision. It is great and it shows Lester’s team mates value him.

Froggy can smell a flag in the offing, the ultimate aphrodisiac. :trophy:🍆

Lester has absolutely done some good things and has done well to read the play and back himself to intercept. It's been an absolute delight to score have him step up in a way I think everyone except 3KZ is Football thought he could have.

I will say, he was a bit rushed on his kicks out of defense at times which aren't necessarily a problem, but he does need to get more distance on those rather then hitting the belly and them just going really high.

Been a bit part of the defensive structure so kudos to him.

The game last Froggy was more attacking if he keeps that up he’ll earn another year

To be fair, many of us have been stated Froggy fans. Only one of us bangs on and on about it until you want to stab them in the eye with a fork.

As far as the high kicks go I think he's not in the class of Answerth or Dizz. He's gaining in confidence but still doesn't realise how much time he has and like every player who knows whatever they do will get micro analysed is sometimes in a bit of a hurry to get rid of it.

Let's face it if he'd gone to the Suns 3 years ago he'd be vice captain and a stalwart by now so I'm thrilled for him that he's gotten a genuine opportunity and made the most of it.

In they eye ? Gruesome.

I really like the mix we have down back . McKenna plays a lot bigger than a flanker and is strong ,tough and skilful. He's going to be a complete gun once we release the shackles. Wilmot has the flair. Starc is tough and fearless. Pressure is off Kiddy to be the playmaker so he can bob up when the opportunity is there. Lester mops up and is a steadying influence.

I really hope they don't mess with this.

Since Doedee tore his ACL he will be in recovery until after the bye next year. If we do pick him up it’s possible we don’t see him play until late in the year. Also means there won’t be the struggle of having to choose between him and Lester at the start of the season if it happens. He’s also a very good kick alongside intercepting so I reckon he’d also be decent competition to some of the halfbacks as well.

I think you are right, he has more time then he realizes and it's only going to take a small adjustment to make those 25m long 50m high kicks becomes 40-45m long instead. I think he can do it and his form on agressive intercepting means he stays in for mine.

McKenna is a great player to watch. You can see when someone tackles him hard or he makes a mistake, he busts an absolute gut to give it back to them 10x over. He's very physical, which tbh wasn't something I expected from him coming from Essendon. But he has a lot of mongrel about him and that's good in a backline to have.

Kiddys attack on the ball last night was first class. He can be a little bit off at times but he broke up alot tigers forward thrusts by backing himself, hitting the contest at speed and keeping the ball in front of him. Being part of a bigger system that's functioning well is helping him.

As has been mentioned, all our half backs played really well last night, their form is all up. It's changed the way we look and adding rich back at any time right now would just be so disruptive. Let's see how the next few weeks play put though.

He kicked a couple of hazard balls inside 50 on Thursday night, one of which was marked by Daniher, who kicked the goal. I did notice that, but he is one of the best users of the ball playing senior football this year. His transition out of defence has been sensational. In the last quarter we saw the combination of his high football IQ and skill when he was surrounded but managed to wrong foot three Richmond players before kicking it long and picking out Charlie Cameron on the wing. Currently Lester is rated second for Disposal Efficiency, 0.06% behind Harris Andrews. The preponderance of defenders amongst our good ball users is part of the secret of our success this year. Five of our top ten are defenders who played on Thursday night. Our transition game has really improved with Lester in the team as he is a super reliable outlet.

Do we play him forward if our defence is set? (Especially on the ultra slim chance that Adams comes back).

He’s a pretty good player down back, but a lot of those skills are directly transferable to a defensive tall role ala McStay, and added bonus if he is a good kick.

managers just doing what managers do. We still have Dizzy with at least two years left on his contract and I believe Lester will get another year. Then there is McKenna to sign and importantly a potential 60 to 70 gamer Payne coming out of contract in 2024. I don't think Doedee is a significant signing

It’ll be a trade.

I imagine we’re looking at KPF’s as well. But they have to want to come, and the rumour needs to then get out there.
Thanks. Edited.
