Look who it is… ol mate “we are taking Reid” but give us all your picks, he is back..
I come in peace and reformed… drank a lot of kool aid thinking we’d take Reid or get the farm but I think now we are just taking Reid… if we were splitting we would’ve of worked with north on what we want rather than string them along and just refuse to negotiate…

And it doesnt necessarily mean we dont get Reid...especially if West Toast pick Mckersher or someone else..
Let's say WCE Eagles can't get a deal done with Melbourne etc. and North don't pick up the phone when they come a-knockin' so they are stuck with #1... What will they do? They want McKercher but they've played their game so openly, they might end up being forced to pick Reid. LoL!!!

What a terrible dilemma aha

Reid said when he arrived at Perth airport to vs WA is the first time he felt like he was somebody due to all the paparazzi and fans….the way he’s interviewed it sounds like he wants all the attention and thrives off it, he wants to play for Collingwood or Geelong in front of big crowds too
Yeah, good on him, but country Vic boy fully cognisant of the ultimate pressure of being the messiah in a ridiculously parochial one-horse town/state? Nah.

Hilarious reading some of the reports today about the 2 offers made to WC by us and Melb.

"Also knocked back a STAGGERING four pick offer from Melbourne."

Ahhhh, one of those picks was pick 42. Calm down.

If that was Clark in the Hun he had us offering the three picks in the teens so no wonder Melbourne were getting lauded. It does confirm one thing though, they have nothing else to offer.

Both north and eagles shouldn’t stop drafting best talent available if they think they won’t be able to retain them. If you look at our retention rate we lose very little players. JHF just was a cry baby you’ll need to take top end talent like Reid or for instance Curtin and back yourself to retain them
Retention rate is great when you are constantly contending like you were in 2020 but your lists fall from grace is rather spectacular to say the least!!
Let's see the retention after a further 2-3 season on the bottom.

Just don't see the point in this. We're at the beginning of a list rebuild with 5 top 20 picks, the perfect opportunity to take both quality at 2 and 3 and still then use the other 3 on positional needs, why risk it all to move up 1 spot.
We aren’t going to risk it all

The offers so far are more than fair and still leave us with plenty

I don’t expect us to offer much more than we have so if they don’t take it then we go to the draft and we watch Harley leave them after a year or so for less than the offers now

Fox Footy article that they couldn't be bothered to put an author to.

Probably closer to the end rather than the start:winkv1:

The assumption everyone is making is that Eagles have made a decision as to what they want to do. They might not have.

if we were splitting we would’ve of worked with north on what we want rather than string them along and just refuse to negotiate…

If you had no intention to split then you wouldn't have asked for pick 2 and 3.

There is a buyout price on pick 1, it just isn't something we would realistically agree to.

Just wait for the weekly circus around Harley if eagles actually take him

They will lose every week and the media will be forcing him back to vic

Eagles aren’t ready for that pressure

I’ll be sure to heap it on also
Ah yes a known man of influence you are.

He will love it in Perth imo. He will have the same cult status like Naitanui, Cousins and Fyfe, he will thrive and feel enamoured by it. I genuinely hope we dont trade the pick even for a crazy good offer. You build a team around a bloke like him. I believe he would be a one club player.

However, just quietly, if you offered us the same deal as before but without pick 23 we'd probably accept it, especially if we can find a way to combine 15 and 17 with our own pick(s) to move into the top 10 and hopefully snag Curtin as well as McKercher with 2. Gut feeling the people pulling the strings with the club dont want to be languishing at the bottom for as long as most predict we will be, it will affect our bottom line, we might think getting McKercher and another top ten player (ideally Curtin) is better than Reid by himself and might lead to us being better sooner.

If we offered you the same deal as before but without 23, it would be visibly lopsided in your favour and would not serve our interests at all

Pick 3 vs Pick 6 and 8?

Split 3 for 6, 11. Then 11 & 18 for 7 or 8.

Mckercher, + 2 of Caddy, Osullivan, Curtin
V
Mckercher, Duursma

If Duursma is rated that highly, go tall across the park,
Duursma, + two talls.

Tall stocks : Larkey.....Logue....abyss.

Draft a Mckercher with the top 5 pick next year.

What I'm hearing Mop, you should have accepted that witness protection offer.

Grave mistake.

Before this draft we are about 1/3 of the way through the list restructuring - holes everywhere but with some green shoots coming through.

This is the draft that could take us to 2/3's of the way through the rebuild if we get it right - it's pretty much the only opportunity we will get to accelerate this long and winding rebuild.

If we don't make it work for us we will be stuck in no man's land with no more assistance from the AFL to correct our errors.

It's all on Clarko and Rawlings now.

They have been handed a 'full house' draft hand by the AFL - let's see what they can do with it.

There is no way that was our final offer this far out and if we've offered that much already, then I think we should all prepare ourselves for how big the real offer could be.

If we offer up anymore than that to moved from pick 2 to pick 1 then we have officially lost the ****ing plot.

For the first time in years we have a bounty of draft picks inside the top 25, the last thing we need to do is torch them all for one player, especially when we have holes all across the field that could be sorted with those later first round picks.

Reid simply isn't worth it. I'm of the opinion that he has less upside than any of the top tier midfielders that have been taken over the last few years (Daicos, JHF, Ashcroft, Sheezel & Wardlaw).
