Maybe read in context before disparaging people. The thread title is 2023 Trade and List Management and NWM is very topical in that context.

Happy discuss NWM leaving when someone, ANYONE supplies even the the most miniscule actual reference that shows that its a even a remote possibility of happening.

Because as far as I can see, we may as well be getting our knickers in a knot over the possibility of losing Hunter Clark for zilch because someone read something on a anonymous website that said he was homesick, had enough of the AFL and was going back to Mt Martha to coach the juniors.

Hope you're right, but the inference is there to be made. Clearly the club would like to have him re-signed now, as they've done with the other players in his draft, and it does not seem likely to me that Nasiah is holding out for more cash or a better deal. So what do you put it down to?

We need elite talent. I think where our list sits now we won’t have a top 3 pick for a while so if we can get one through the door another way that’s gotta be good.

As good as it is that we have improved our midfield, none of them are elite just yet

I reckon it's not even true mids that we need. It's those more outside runners for flanks /high half forward, hybrid wing type roles now. If we are playing more Tigers than West Coast/ old Geelong, we don't need a star on ball fleet. Steele and Crouch with Gresham, Jones etc playing slightly more outside should be sufficient or good. But we probably need guys like Nas, DMac, Billings, Hill even a bloke like Byrnes or Connolly to come on. Windhager, Bytel and Owens are going to put pressure on those on ballers and we still have Ross to stick in as well. Geelong, Collingwood and Sydney all had very spartan midfields this year with a much more pared back set up and a very systems based game plan that was all about teamwork.

We need to develop or recruit tall forwards and probably the ruck/ forward role needs to be filled. The backs look pretty solid if Battle can keep moving forward.

Elite talent anywhere is definitely a need. Hopefully a few can step up and go to a Sinclair level under Lyon.

It getting mentioned now and then in context isn't a huge deal.
The number of people jumping on the bandwagon to say it's happening, and the fact that his picture can't be shown on Facebook (and probably elsewhere) without it being the main thing commented on below is distasteful.
People will deny it passionately, but I can't help but think there's a stereotype of indigenous players being a "flight risk" that leads to it blowing out of proportion way more than it would if it were a non-indigenous kid who hadn't signed.
It might even be a stereotype that is supported somewhat statistically/historically, but there are plenty who stick around and plenty of non-indigenous kids who take off too. I would be bloody pissed off if it was me or my family member - and every time they got some media or social media coverage the commentary would be based on them running back to their home state. If it would piss you off too, then maybe consider not contributing to it?
Saying, "Well he should sign then" is BS too. Why should he? He might want to see how the club is going, how the new coach goes, whether he is getting developed/paid/respected/used the way he'd like, whether he likes the area he's living in e.t.c. Doesn't mean he's out the door like people are climbing all over each other to suggest.
I dunno, I think it would be better if people could just support him, and not doubt or assume so much, or at least not try so hard to convince everyone it's true. I don't know how close the commentary gets to him, but I'm sure he's heard it, and I don't think it's all that helpful.

He re-signed start of last year until 2024.

Realistically I don't think we will be able to get him until later in his career. He has made it pretty clear he is committed to the Suns and he'd be on incredible money. He would also cost at least two first rounders so you wonder if it's really the best idea anyway, it will be better to wait until he's a free agent and potentially unrestricted.

If Nas wants to go his only viable choice will be Adelaide given Port don't have a 1st rounder this year because that will be minimum cost

If he rips it up this year and wants to leave and is happy with Adelaide then it's their 1st rounder which will probably be a top 3 pick or Rachele + change with the thought that Rachele could be a Robbie Gray clone

Nah you've got the right to discuss anything you like - just like I've got the right to call something boring and unsubstantiated.

Jeez it's a pity about Hunter giving up footy and apparently Jimmy W is heading back to Glenorchy - and don't get me started on Gresh to the Pies for a 2nd rounder (bookmark it - done deal).

BTW - the word I've consistently heard is that NWM will sign a contract extension before the start of the season.

Imagine .... Windy, Owens, Wanga, Phillipou, Bytel, Hotton and Callaghan all thru the middle in a few years... with the added experience of Steele, Sincs, Clark & Gresh still available

I'd say if we want Callaghan we'll have to give up one of the names you mentioned in a trade or another valued player, especially since Ross has indicated that we'll be recruiting via the draft for the next two years.

Draftees rarely hold off signing a contract unless they are seriously considering a move back home or looking for more opportunity elsewhere.

Opportunity has not been an issue for him.

That's not to say he's definitely going but he's obviously weighing up his decision.

There really is no need to get so triggered about people discussing this issue, you can always just scroll past.

It is getting made into a bigger issue than it needs to be right now.

Yes, because they were likely weighing up whether they want to stay or go home.

That is why it's usually the players that go interstate that leave it longer to sign.

And not all of them end up staying, plenty choose to go home after 2 years.

I'm definitely not making it a huge issue but there is a reason it's being discussed.
