Marshall just signed a huge deal last year. There is no way we would trade him. Steele would get us a good pick too should we trade him?

It probably makes sense to trade Marshall rather than get a pick in the 20s for Gresham, RM will be 28 next year and probably only has 4 years left. If we aren't playing finals for a while we should be looking at that age group.

Ross and Webster are the only old guys who were drafted to the club. Both will be 30 next year. Next under that are Billings and Sinclair at 28 and 29 next year. Those guys are cultural links. You probably want to keep a couple.

I think Marshall will be the last person we trade, can see him being one of our most important players over the next 3 - 4 years
Only a practice game but he was good against the Dons, will be in our top 3 in the B&F and go close to AA imo
True but there's little point holding on to a high value guy who'll be cooked by the time it matters. The season will prove out how far away we are and if they keep him then so much the better.

My prediction is we'll trade Marshall end of year. Jweb and Ross to explore their options, Hunter gone if he doesn't fire, offers taken on Membrey.

I'm hoping that Clark & Gresh have such good years that we cant let them go

Think Marshall will thrive under RTB

I hope so. You don’t improve by losing good players.

Should and us are quite seperate.

There are so many examples of the opposite to this idea that I literally cannot be bothered listing them all but let's start with Tim Kelly going to the West Coast.

Actually I'll chuck in a debate grenade and say Plugger, Spida and Barry Hall all to the Swans.

Yep depends how far away we think we are

I still think we are an 8th to 10th side this year and top 6 side next
Losing Marshall would send us back years

Did losing Plugger make us better or just didn't hurt as much when made a GF not long afterwards?

Everitt (to the Hawks) got us pick 6 which we gave back for Barry Brooks with another pick in the 30s. Also got a later pick to use on Matthew Ferguson. That isn't a benefit compared to holding on to him.

Tim Kelly is an example of losing a player that got lots of draft capital from player that cost very little but Geelong weren't happy to lose him. They were then able to chase Jeremy Cameron with that capital.

Hall we turned into Dal Santo, Heath Black and Trent Knobel. He wanted out and we ended up doing well out of it or at least breaking even.

8th to 10th is also my feeling but if thats the case I'd rather finish 15th.
I understand the 15th position for the draft

But would still take 9th or 10th over 15th
We got the Pou with pick 10 and he will be the best player out of his draft . Plenty of great players taken with picks 8 to 12

And 9th or 10th means around 11 to 12 wins which means I will get some enjoyment out of the year

If they are talking about loading up on picks he's the only one I can imaging that would get a decent return. Sinclair, King and Steele are the three untouchables that would get good picks. Otherwise you have youth that is unlikely to get more than you paid so you move sideways or backwards. Marshall probably gets 2 FRDPs.

I don't want to lose any good players but know how the St Kilda list management mind works.

A ball hasn't been kicked and I have almost lost interest.
Thinking of going to Collingwood v Geelong tonight but not our game Sunday.

The injuries have just put a blade through my hopes.

Tigers do very well from that position or worse. So do the Dogs. Selling another bottom out to an impatient fan base sounds like bad business. We took an easier fixture with less commercial benefits this year. To blow it finishing bottom 4 in our 150th makes me irritable thinking about it. It looks all over the shop again.

That's for sure. We've had the Pou at 10 and Nas at 11, however the Pou landed at Stkilda through luck and not good management, whilst Nas might not be here in 7 months. It's not just the 1st round that's important when you talk about finishing in the bottom 5. Melbourne we able to trade into pick 12 for Kosie Pickett because they'd had a fairly crummy year which increased the speculative value of their future picks and I'd like to think we might do something similar. There's also the 2nd and 3rd rounders that have significantly better value.

Will always get behind the boys, just not really excited.
Nephew is back from a bad acl and is playing with Williamstown, will be down there a lot this year I reckon.
Not diminishing anyone's excitement, the injuries have really spoilt it for me. Hope we come good and we win dirty, the RTB way until the troops are back.
