Byrnes was drafted as a Stuv style mid not dissimilar to how Dow plays.

That may be, but in the firsts he has looked quite good (though hot and cold) in a running role, and no so good when used as a inside mid. His key strength right here and now seems to be his running power, and pace. He may keep evolving of course and perhaps get back to being an inside mid, but for 2024 I expect to see him on the outside.

Players often join a club based on a certain role but evolve into another.

Wood did not join us as a winger, and Battle was drafted as a marking forward.

As as for Sinclair: "Jack is a quality kid who plays forward and has an ability to go through the midfield," He has morphed into a AA HBF who can run through the midfield still.

Wonder if Essendon would just walk away if we match. They’re likely in it for his zero pick price tag and it’s not like a big club like that will have issues attracting future players because they once left someone hanging.
We match and then they up the deal.

Thats not how it works.

If we match, then the scenarios are:

1. He re-signs with us
2. We go to the trade table with Essendon
3. Gresham goes into the draft - nominates a price on his head.

Hold on to Billings imo. We've already delisted four players, trading Doogs for a first is five, and the reality unfortunately is that Jones / Dmac probably both shouldn't get new contracts (is DMac still contracted for 2024 though)?

Probably a bit more pruning as well in the next week or so, we could need to fill up to 7 list spots and so far only Henry is coming. I would keep JB around, our most glaring weakness (even more than our midfield) was absoutely putrid f50 entries and JB is a classy field kick.
DMAC is out of contract this year.

What is it you have against Bains?

You are determined to deflect the shortcomings of Elshaug (his direct responsibilities) to another who's primary role wasn't to assess and then decide on which kids to select in the National and Rookie drafts.

Hmmmm.

To be honest... nothing

He was just one of the players who delivered us a poor decade.

Then jumped ship and went to another club for a better position.

Tough one with next year’s draft has such a good crop of mids. We/ I want to use picks now, but wonder if the truly better option is to swap firsts and hope for a crap year for the trading partner. If desperate enough, we get some extras this year and let Toce get to work. This won’t be popular and I’m not sure I could handle no first rounder this year, but if we want a shot at the best mid then that’s probably next year.

Yep, so many of these guys have cost us a decade plus (all together). Although Bains does seem to have some some good work on the salary cap after he was left with a pile of crap.

Wood has extra value to our club due to his relationships with guys like Nas and Pou.

I understand the ruthlessness of the business, but I think some of what he appears to be doing behind the scenes can't really be measured. Building a culture and bond within the group is an important piece of the puzzle. I think he's a valuable asset to our club in more ways than just what he does on the wing for us, which has been excellent anyway.

Completely goes against the clubs aim for this year

I dont see Dorodo going out with a wimpier in his last trade period before stepping back.

He got offered a CEO gig.

He had Finnis ahead of him at STK.

Never left a position for a better job elsewhere?

Who cares if Jones and Dmac are in the rehab group for another 12 months. The upside is that they aren’t, and they’re best 25. The downside if we sign them for a further twelve months is the take they spot of a kid who’s unlikely to ever make the grade.
There are A LOT of spots on the list, we can carry a couple should they positively impact at their best.

Problem is though is that may not be just not a couple.

Dmac, Jones, Hayes and if they stay Billings and Coff.

As unpopular as it will be for some to digest, it was the Pelican who got our cap back in order.

Albeit through pushing Goddard, Dal & a few others through the door.

Bains was promoted after the AFL forced us to choose between him & Pelchen. They were basically funding two blokes' salaries who were doing similar roles.
