Might be too out of the question and I can’t remember exactly but I think Deven Robertson is OOC this year, WA boy but I reckon he’s what we need in the midfield.

From what I can mostly recall, he fell in the draft that night, and hasn’t broken into that lions midfield (won’t for a bit still) and been shoved on a wing, although he played some time there and his burst and strength and confidence to take on tackles for a 22 year old caught my eye. IMHO way better than Dow (maybe not Flanders) but he’s definitely class.

From what I’ve seen over the years he doesn’t have great foot skills, he’s a great tackler, and was a great accumulator in his draft year. He’s also a great leader and hard worker just something I thought about.

He's come on fresh as the sub and is running up the middle like it's the last 100m of a 5km sprint

Jesus christ, as a club we probably should've got someone in to work on his technique tbh. Looks like he over strides which can go back to a lack of calf strength possibly.

People with bad/weak calfs tend to stride further thinking it will make them be quicker when it's really the propulsion from the calves that help

righto Usain Bolt

He will go to WA or he will stay in QLD, VIC clubs not in the convo

I really like Clark as a player.. kicks off either foot, great balance and toughness, but he strikes me as a guy who loves playing the game but not necessarily all the extra physical requirements associated with it. For a player to be in their 5th year and have arm definition equivalent to my 14 year old niece tells me they don't exactly enjoy the weight room. So when you consider his lack of leg speed (can't really play outside) and his lack of strength (can't really play inside), where does he fit in?

He's got enough talent to jog around and get 20 touches at AFL level but is that what you want from a pick 7? I suspect if a club offered a second round pick the Saints would take it and run because players like Mitchito and Phillipou will go past him in the pecking order for midfield minutes next year, if they havent already.

What's the point in giving him away for a speculative pick though? He has shown he has the skill and ability to contribute at AFL level and is still only 24, and he has the evasiveness and skill to thrive at the top level still IMO. I feel like he was tracking really well before his run of shocking injuries and he can get back to that level, go and watch our 2020 final against the Bulldogs and he had poise and time when noone else did.

A lot of fans seems to think do nothing and waiting for under performing/injured players to come good is the best way to get better. That’s what we’ve been doing for the past 10 years.. We need to build an elite environment where everyone wants and needs to perform or they are out!!! The likes of Billings had 9 years in the system and is still a working in progress, that cannot happen anymore..

So gut the list, replace them through the draft or trade / recruit under appreciated players /hidden gems like Stocker, Cody, camaniti, after all, our best 4 players are either rookies or from other teams 1. Steele 2. Crouch 3. Wilkie 4. Sinclair

I'm not sentimental towards many of our players, and Coff is no exception, however it's been said that he had made huge efforts over the last two years to improve himself, for no luck in return. I think a year contract with a clause for a second, if triggers are met, at least gives him a chance to redeem some of his efforts to get on the park. Of course, if he wants to leave...then away with him.

Would it not be a good idea to give him a 2 year contract .get some games into him and if he goes ok all good and well if u still wanted to trade him after next season for example at least you get something better for him trade wise?

If he's a bust then no-one is paying to take him and you're locked into another year and maybe $450k out of the cap. Means a kid off the rookie list or draft isn't getting a foot in the door on top of that. If he's an injury bust sometimes you are better to replace them with someone more resilient.

Right now we are getting more out of Byrnes who was a late pick than we are out of Coffield. The only reason he's getting another contract at this point is sunk cost due to his high draft pick. Footy is a brutal industry. You could grab Jean-Luc Valissaris out of the VFL and give him 2 years and see what he could do instead or even Chito's older brother.

The latest Central Rookie Me rolling phantom draft.

Incredible how few true mids there are in this draft. Only the Saints could be on a roll with drafting then the universe shits a draft out that has nothing we particularly need. It does run a bit deeper than I thought though. Freijah, Delean and Moir all pretty late after some early hype.

Freijah is a gun. Ideal replacement for mason wood

I have never been a Coff fan or thought he would become a gun but I would give him another year or two. I have always thought of him as an outside flanker type that doesn’t use is legs enough. Looked good as a 7th defender in 2020 but with the new 666 rule he won’t be able to play that role. A 3rd tall needs to be able defend tall, Coff has struggled playing tall in the past.

Whilst Gresh, Billings, Paton and Clarke are solid enough afl players I dont see them taking us to a premiership. I also don’t see the loss of them affecting us that much moving forward.

Let’s look at some young moneyball talent like Henry, Flanders, Hollands, Bryan, Dow, Grainger Barass, Ginnivan or James Jordan whilst hitting the draft. I even think we could target under valued players like Alex sexton who hits the scoreboard more than Gresh and would cost a lot less. Adam Tomlinson as a cheap Dougal replacement and spend some more dollars on midfield talent.

Sexton is more of Membrey type of small tall forward. Looked like a very solid player a few years back though. Think he topped their goal kicking one year even.

Owens and Dangerfield basically have identical stats at the same age - his contested work now is just about better than anyone on the team and he is 19 , he has even been thrown to the wolves into the ruck which shows the kid can do anything.
It's early days but after 27 games he could development into that Dangerfield / Fyfe game changer we have never had.

No-one doubts his potential.

I think there is a balance. You need to stockpile talented players and you can only replace so many every draft/trade period. It seems like a good idea to give Coff another 12 months but keeping him for ever hoping that he'll come good is pointless.

This was April 19th (no idea on how good the source is)

Yeah that’s most likely true, if he’s going anywhere right now, it’s the eagles. However, if he said he’d like to go anywhere, I’d want him without a doubt

Yeah, he's got talent but been a bt of a slow burn so far. Brisbane have a few good VFL players sitting in reserve that would be worth a look. I still love Kai Lohmann. He's a goal kicker and way too good for state leagues. I saw one of their VFL games last year and he looks like he's got all the weapons to be a star.

Because he runs like a park footballer, can't spread, is allergic to the gym & doesn't commit to being a full time professional athlete

Lohmann does look class from the limited games I’ve seen of him, still young but his type seems like unlimited potential.

Other thing is with Dev, lions also have Levi Ashcroft coming soon and what I’ve heard he might also pass Dev in the pecking order.

Dev being a two way runner helps too, imagine him, Chito and Pou in the middle and Pou/chito doesn’t need to do as much negating, going forward being goal kicking mids

Ummm for the last ten years they've been trying to shorcut the system by drafting in ....spuds.
You need to take the long patient route, and it will be shorter.
Yeah how many times can we take discards from other teams in the hope that they tip us over into becoming contenders.

What about actually just sticking with the path, drafting players that you want and building a culture that teaches them a) how to become full time professional athletes and b) makes them want to stick around because they can see success coming.

We need a tall defender and ruck…both are available around our pick, maybe snare one of each if we get a decent compo pick for Gresham!
Target mids in the trade period.

If you’re that keen on Lohmann, get in touch with the club & sprout his case..they’re approachable down there!!

I hate using high picks on KPBs. I'm old school. KP backs are just failed forwards given a lifeline.

I CBF, years ago I tried that and got no response. They must get lots of morons bothering them.

Does it matter though? We need better players on every line so best not to obsess on it surely.
