I can't put my finger on it, but Ross and Steele don't seem to mesh. It goes back to preseason and the leaked audio from the coach's box.

Ross has always had a super strong relationship with past captions, and it's just not there with Steele at all.
Is there anywhere we can hear the tapes

We should look to Cogs at GWS for an example. Was their best player almost exactly like Steele got the captaincy but struggled. His game dropped off too and the leadership was nothing special. Cogs even got dropped I remember how depressed he looked in the AFL doco. Lost the captaincy and now he's a gun again. Team is flying.
Good point. Although cogs has greater leg speed and superior ball use to Steele.

I got laughed out the door in May for suggesting Steele should be shopped around.

To me he doesn’t exude leadership material. Maybe those who have gone before him have set my expectations high, but he doesn’t do it for me. I do accept he has been great during a period where we didn’t have many leaders around, but I think it’s different now.

For mine, if he netted us 2 quality picks, you take it.
What happens when you turn those picks into Jack Watts and Jack Trengove.

Not sure. There were never any reports about anything bad so it couldn't have been much.

Ross had a few subtle digs at Steele and pressers as well. One time, he wanted to make it clear that Steele was not injured, even though he looked banged up and was coming back from injury. It just seemed odd.

Also gave praise when he deserved it. Might be that Ross doesn't think Steele can take the good with the bad?

I don't think we should trade him. But I do remember when we held onto Jack Steven when he wanted out at the peak of his powers. We could have named our price. A few years later, he left for next to nothing and we were never a finals team. Thanks Cho!

Port never have a problem of trading high, something we could learn from. We never seem to trade any of our players for first-round picks.

Steele may not be happy with Lyon but moving on Steele would certainly kill any loyalty in the clubs players.
I have to mention Blight when he first went to the Crows he straight away made the bold call to sack Tony McGuinness, Chris McDermott and Andrew Jarman.
It would be a bit like sacking Steele , Membery and Ross.

And with those sackings came back to back flags!

You want to trade him because you think he is not captain material

To be fair Ross has still be rolling out good new captions this year.

Rumour has it Saints and Gresham's manager are at loggerheads over possible clauses in his contract.

The "helicopter floater" clause would see him lose a percentage of his wage if triggered, it's rumoured the amount of helicopters kicked to trigger this clause is concerning to Gresh.
Hahaha this is brilliant

I'm willing to bet we'll see a record movement of 1st round picks this year and all that will be turned on it's head.

As with a couple of years back, or maybe last year, we lack the capital to get amongst the real action, but there will be some scraps about and WC have shown they'll trade down preferring local talent with 1stRDP.
From the current ratings:

1. Norff- Reid
2. WC - Curtain
3. Suns- Walter
4. GWS - Mckercher
5. Hawthorn- Duursma
6. Bulldogs - Next Best
7. Melbourne - Anothakent
8. WC - Next WA Kent

14. WC - Someother WAkent (NGA -Sri Lanka)

18. WC - Yetanother WAkent
(NGA -Sri Lanka. Unrelated)
This made me lol is Kent the new Jack

Trying not to be me ( Negative ) But you're telling me a list manager is just going to start blabbing on about players to some random , I find that somewhat hard to believe .

HunterClarksHeadband said Steele is on the trade table according to Jason McCartney

It was then reported on by SEN
:tearsofjoy: Geez, last time I feel like getting amongst the goss train haha.
Once again - not claiming anything as gospel but it was a simple light hearted convo that I struck up when leaving the lounge about the Giants and their chances of making finals, jokingly said I'm very appreciative of them letting Steele go for our gain and thats when he said "mate, all I've been hearing this week is that you're trying to get rid of him!"

Jack steele has been a very very good player for us, he is tough and tenacious. But he is just not a true ball hunter or a natural leader. The number of times we see opposition mids walk the ball out of middle is really unacceptable, if we can only break even in the middle, we would be a much more dangerous side. So that to me says that Crouch, Steele and Ross does not work too well together. Crouch to me has been a more impactful mid this year, even when Steele wasn’t injured at the start of the season. It can be just that Steele is not happy, or feeling not appreciated, but after having Riewoldt and Fyfe as captains, I can see why Lyon may be asking a lot from Steele.
