Nobody wants Billings contract?

If so i cannot recall a player in my lifetime for the saints to have fallen out of favour to such a degree.
I hope he stays the narrative that he‘s rubbish is ridiculous Imo. He’s disappointing for a top 3 pick but he’s a quality player who’s had a shocking run in recent times with injury. Jack newnes had a massive fall, he went from a fixture and being talked about as a future captain to bye in a hurry.

Billings to me just feels like such a nothing vanilla player.

If were going to keep him I wouldn't be opposed to trying him on half back - would he be better if the ball came to him rather than he had to find it? His clean disposal could be of use there.

Apparently he is meeting with Sydney and other clubs.
Herald sun article from before

If they miss out on McKay there are other options on the trade table including St Kilda’s Dougal Howard but in Tom McCartin, Dayne Rampe and Melican they could hold up for another season.

I feel like the worst place for a Vanilla player is half-back.

When has Billings ever taken on aggressive corridor kicks or tried to run and create with the ball in hand? It's not his forte.

He's good however at finding the ball forward of center.

Re what Stav is saying.

Trading Billings Clark, Douglas etc won’t make as much of a difference next year as potentially getting in picks who can make an impact in the next 5.

Realistically out of the lists that are bandied only Howard is someone that we would realistically miss.

Gotta take the risk
100% this

Also we are seriously over rating the impact each has had. Billings hasn't played. Clark has been seriously ineffective and cannot two way run. Gresham has been a liability with the ball in hand and is big reason we are very inefficient going fwd.

It's ridiculous the amount people over rate these guys

The issue is comparing those 2 is that Henry is younger and trending upwards.
Clark is older, and trending downwards.

Recency bias, whether you like it or not is big determinant when it comes to the trade period.
Henry's "trending upward" is a very small sample size. He had 15 disposals against the Hawks in his last game. It's hardly consistent form.

Resigning billings was seriously stupid and alot of saw that one coming...

Hunter Clark is billings MK2.

Back to hoping he fulfils his potential I guess
There's definitely something about him. Incredible hands. Has composure and evasiveness. Kicking ranges from excellent to lazy / almost missing his boot. Tackling has improved but still misses the odd howler. But ultimately he needs to get his running to an AFL standard or all the positives are moot.

Statistically he's our best centre bounce clearance winner when he's in there (13% of CBAs). AFL average for mids is about 12%. Owens 12%, Crouch, Steele and Ross all 10-11%. Gresh 9%. Excluding Sinclair (19%) from the discussion as he gets a lot of centre clearances peeling off half back. So he can definitely hold his own in there and passes the eye test.

Incidentally, #1 in the comp this year was... Paddy Dow. 24 centre clearances from 120 CBAs (20%). Pity he doesn't look where he's kicking it to.

$500k a year for 2 for a player dogged by injury and has never reached any heights.

Why we gave him 4 years is a mystery, his money is not because of the stupid 95% TPP rule

It’s the same deficiencies since 2020.

You can argue injuries. But there hasn’t been much interms of improvements to his game.

And most weeks - he has next to no impact on the game.

24 this year and he was our sub a fair few times.

It feels like a regression and not progression with him.

But I’ll back the club in. No point selling him if you’re getting cents back for your dollar.

Sharing this as its bullshit. But I hope sanders is in the open draft…

And that they probably get gifted late firsts early seconds and that’s probably Hunter Clark’s price range

I love the fact how other articles highlight the weakness of the draft, but all the goodies North are going to be handed (for deliberate actions). They don’t have a talent problem - look at that young midfield, stars and depth, plus 2,3, Port’s pick and any other hand outs. So stop looking for a talent solution. Lots of other clubs haven’t had much success.

Tried that with Richo, he leaked goals and lost to many 1 on 1s and kicked down the line instead of the 45 because he didn't want to make a mistake.
