It’s always easier for us to say the next crop of kids we draft will take us to the flag.

We just have no idea about the draft and how they develop. We can do our best but it’s a crapshoot

But I will say this, our list right now isn’t good enough. Either we tread water and finish 5-10 next few seasons and then inevitably have to rebuild in 5-7 years or we try and make the list younger and try to contend in that time.

Both are likely not to lead to a flag cause it’s bloody difficult to win one but I’d rather try to win than just tread water.

Every year we have to be trying every avenue to bring young talent in.
When we had a good list in 2009 , we still should have been looking for talent.
Look for Irish guys, look for NGA, look for mature players, try to draft.

Its slow to judge , but there is no way we should have kept Trout on the books so long.

All the news earlier, was that Lyon had addressed the group before the game.
Why would they try to keep something like that secret, when everyone knows you can't keep anything AFL secret.

Factually incorrect. Membrey had to give RTB a rusty trombone in front of Warrick Capper and Ricky Nixon at a lady’s night involving Nadia Bartel.

Exactly. Port did this in the 2018 draft and it really kick started their regeneration. They had picks 5, 12 and 18.

There are pros and cons in upgrading or taking the picks to the draft. I don’t know enough about the top end talent in this draft to know whether trading-up is worthwhile or whether the depth of talent is there at 11-12-13. But if the latter is true then I’m happy if our guys go to the draft table.

It would be interesting to know what sort of a deal could we broker, or want to broker, if we had 11-12-13. Lots of fun with that hypothetical.

2034 points v 2480 points (before bids for relevant players). 21% gain in available draft pick points.

Would the Suns think that is enough for the premium of pick 4?

On paper we had a good hand in the Coffield, Clark draft.
In reality it was a pretty ordinary group to select from.

its funny people bringing up acres... that's not the one that hurt i'd point to and be like "how in the **** did they do that"... the jesse hogan obsession is right up there with the trent croad debacle as one of the worst decisions of all time. they were trying to trade lachie neale to melbourne for 2-3 years because they wanted hogan. it was out right obsession. eventually neale had enough and wanted out. they get hogan after being explicitly warned about his off-field behaviour in which peter bell told people they would not trade for someone like that. only to reneg a week or two later. they let neale go and think theyve won the lotto.

rest is history.

talk about a cluster ****.

They don't, they get paid a standard draftee contract for 2 years.
It is the second and third contract where players not deserving get overs because 95% if TPP HAS to be paid.
WCE did this year while at the same time this year's premiers will paid at most 5 % more in TPP.
It is ludicrous.

Acres shits me.
But only because its Acres playing good footy now.
He was lazy as all hell when he was with us, but had flashes where you could absolutely see that he was a good player.
He just didn't work hard enough.
Did more of the same at Freo. Just lacklustre.

Took the third club for the penny to drop. It's not development... Its just him.

Acres wouldn't be playing good footy if we kept him lol. It's like regretting trading Jack Newnes cause he won a game for Carlton once
