Silence = Carlton. In my opinion its where he wants to get to, but they have bigger fish to fry right now and they dont need the distraction of trade discussions. Which is why i think 'Carlton discussions have cooled'. He has had six months of think music. He knows exactly what he wants already. He doesnt need another fortnight to make up his mind. Mad Carlton fan growing up and his brothers NGA links would have made his desire to get there even stronger.

Likewise with Coffield - if Dogs are really keen he will jump over in a heartbeat. Brisbane not so much, unless it was purely for opportunity. He was privately devastated when we took him one pick before WB could do so.

This is a nice theory but in reality 99% of players never play for whom they barracked for it’s not always possible & most players stay at the 1 club their whole career.

Got to admire Toby Greene has stuck it out at a made up club & has never indicated wanting to leave.

That is fair point you expect a few misses and to get it wrong occasionally.

But how do you get it wrong with 8 first round picks in 5 years (13-17). Not a single A grader. You could argue not a single B grader. No matter how pathetically hopeless your recruiting team is, you would think that they would fluke at least ONE.
No the recruiting team was just that bad unfortunately.

You’re the emotional drunk mate. You say we’re moving forward but maybe backwards and everything is positive despite being a terrible list and needing to rebuild for a tilt in a few years. Confusing vision.
As a club as a list we are moving forward.

Moving on players like Howard Billings Clark Membrey etc to invest in our future. To help us become a contender isn’t confusing.

But by doing so there is every chance we get found out because the kids might not be ready to step up.

That doesn’t make the plan bad or confusing. It’s the reality of trying to avoid bottoming out where the access to the best kids are.

We missed out on TDK. Out of the McKay running pretty early on in the piece.

Henry Jordan and dow make the list better but don’t necessarily turn us into a top 4 side.

All of that can be true. Like wise we can set ourselves up for a flag and not play finals next year.

It’s not hard to understand even for you.

The core of this list is the group of kids from King through to Caminiti & Pou.

Everyone else will eventually fall away until we are left with a small group who have shown they are good enough to stick around when this core is at its peak.

Well thats where we differ I think a fit billings walks into our best 22 and trading him will come back to haunt us. Who just out of interest has gone past a fit billings?. I can remember quite a few posters who said Sinclair was ordinary and wasn’t best 22 and that long was a star. Nobody gets it right all the time and I have no problem with others opinions but facts about injury etc shouldn’t be twisted.

Yes gresham has fought back from injury and imo is still a way off his best, a fact I’ve mentioned on here before. All I’m saying is that billings has had a horror run and it’s a fact he was a bloody good afl player when fit, what’s changed except the narrative. Factually he hasn’t been crap since 2017 when he had 59 scoring shots, he was moved to a different role because that’s what the team needed. What started this billings is crap, vanilla, overplayed, can’t play routine was like Gresham his restricted free agency in 2021. He had plantar fasciitis that year and played through it under duress and wasn‘t great. People started bagging his contract and questioning his worth just like Gresham, billings has had a horror run since then but he’s contracted on reasonable money and like Gresham absolutely a class above many imo and a walk up for our best 22.

Yes I think that his best is as a high half forward and I’m confident his marking and foot skills would give us something that’s lacking. I absolutely wouldn’t trade him let alone give him away, we’re crying out for quality and he’s quality imo.
Yep. People treat this so called “best 22” like they ship the players to the moon to play and everyone else is excluded. Last year, Byrnes was gone. Two years ago, Wood was nothing. Things change from year to year. Sometimes players get games for other reasons (Hi Gresh) and others don’t for the coaches own reasons. It’s not all a linear talent formula.

Not wanting to appear to be kicking someone while they are down but given his recent late withdrawal from the
qualifying final, I can't see any club willing to take on Membrey atm, nor pay much for him by way of a draft pick.
A bit of a shame as I reckon Melbourne could be interested given the state of their forward line.

could imagine richmond as well with Jack gone

Can’t see us getting better?
Pou
Caminiti
Windy
NAS
Owens
Sharman
All have had great years and huge development this year all should improve next year

A full year from king is another reason we can improve

Smashed by injuries this year

Another Pre season under RTB and a fully fit Steele is another reason we will improve

Your 1st post said we shouldn’t be expecting finals

Not expecting finals is delusional and a loser mentality that the club has had for the last decade and needs to rid itself of

we culd get shmashed again by injuries as well.

Riewoldt did say when he retired that Kingsley was the most impressive assistant he had worked with in his career. Kingsley himself said he learnt the most from working with Choco at Port, Lyon at the Saints (in 2011) and Hardwick at the Tigers. Suggests that the Watters/Richo years were not exactly fruitful for his development.

Tigers would be filthy though - if they'd known DH was going to leave mid-season, I reckon they would have done a succession process last year with Kingsley to keep him around.

He's got the Giants playing to their potential again (they have a top 4 list) which they haven't for 3-4 years. Good on him.
Image offering Kingsley the senior gig in 2019, instead of Ratten.

A shining beacon of a post in what is undoubtedly the worst thread on here for some time :kissingheart:

Getting James jordon will just be another saints c grade pick up. Will go with Logan Austin, dean kent, sam rowe, Johnathon marsh, Ryan Abbott, Shaun mckernan. Doesn’t improve our list one bit

We need midfield depth and he fills that well for free. Only 22 so much younger than most of those you mentioned.
Can't rely on draftees to be our depth and impact immediately when needed without any AFL experience

I did say within reason - that was my reason.

AS you said if he plays, No issues.

If we are expecting Heath and Campbell to carry us we might aswell book september holidays months in advance
Gubby and SOS. Have had 12 months to work on this

Ah well you never know, people said the same about Ryder and Wood. Probably about Steele too.

He’s young and comes from a club of recent success, he’s an upgrade on Bytel, and as long as we aren’t giving up a potentially valuable Gresh compensation pick for him I don’t see any reason for concern.

Ameet Baines was part of the recruitment team that made many mistakes and also as you say savvy trades. He can take responsibilty for the good trades as well...

"Emma Quayle sat in on St Kilda's recruiting meetings throughout 2014 for her book The Draftees. In this edited extract, the recruiting team of Tony Elshaug, Ameet Bains and Chris Liberatore tell coach Alan Richardson and CEO Matt Finnis why they settled on Paddy McCartin as the No. 1 draft pick over Christian Petracca, Angus Brayshaw and Peter Wright."
Jesus Trout was an absolute Fraud.

Actually feel sorry for Richo after reading that. Had a bunch of amateurs in charge of pick 1 and he was worried about Paddy the entire time.

He could surprise like Wood or Roberton did

But I would prefer Gresham and Coff over Dow and Jordan

I get that
But if they are good operators they will have a plan B
Last week we heard they were keen on Goldstein and people on here lost their minds.

What else is there?

Grundy?
Flynn?
Soldo?

There isnt alot out there and not a heap i would want to get into a bidding war about or pay a heap in picks.

That's why i was a fan of the Goldstein news - seems like he is off to Bomber land now.
