Imagine comparing Shiel and Dow to 4 players who were delisted a day after the season ended.

You seriously believe Essendon are going to give us a first round pick for nothing 😂😂
Essendon don’t give us a first round pick.
They pay Gresh enough so we get a first round compo pick.

They don't need the salary relief though. That's the key point in this. No way we end up with 13 in this deal.

I guess if you think of it this way - we do this deal and get Shiel + 27 for Gresham.

Would we rather that than 19 on it's own (band 2) or keeping Gresham (band 3)?

Gresham out a packet of CC’s in.
Ross the Boss can’t say no.
A seasons worth of CC's will keep RTB fit and firing. Sharp.

And a sharp RTB has more of an on-field impact than jAdE "helicopter pies" gReShAm

I think we can put this down to Ralph being drunk or high. Or stupid, but we all know that's the case anyway.

The quid pro quo doesn't work. The benefit for you would be getting the pick 13 to help with the Henry deal. Which makes no sense for us. The benefit for us would be getting that pick as part of the deal, which makes no sense for you. It's just bizarre

If you have an ageing player on your list on big money that your happy to get rid of I’d say you would call that salary cap relief for future dealings.

If you want McKay and Gresh and don’t want to lose any draft picks surely you would scratch our back and do the deal.
Free up a bit of salary.
Don’t do the deal we match Gresh and you lose the chance to bring in a player you’re obviously keen on.

Gresham for band 2 no thanks.
Gresham for band 1 now we’re getting creative and bringing in quality youth to go with Owens Windy King Pou Nasiah.
We all No it makes sense.
If it means sacrificing a spot on the list with Shiel and paying some extra salary so be it.

we’re giving them a shitload of salary relief and they’re getting us band 1 compo.
Seems pretty self explanatory hey.
What wisdom did they have?

Though if they overpay Gresham each year on a longterm contract, it is only offset by the saving of one year of Shiel's Contract which runs only till end of 2024. So longterm it couldbe more in overpaying Gresh each year than it saves.

So it only really helps them if they need some saving next year.

What is Shiel on per year anyway? $800,000

So if they overpay Gresh they basically save nothing, they just swap Shiel for Gresham.

So the extra benefit for them is really just the pick we give them for Shiel, plus not having Shiel on their books. Is that a pro or con for them?

I haven't seen a lot of Shiel. So he's a crap kick? So is Gresh. Is he faster than Gresh? I guess yes. So a slight upgrade?

But regardless, it's about the compo pick. Keep Gresh and lose him for nothing later, or swap him out now and bag a first round compo... I know what I'd go for.

True but I like to look at these deals with my saints coloured glasses on.

In all seriousness I can see why the bombers would want to pay up for Gresham I can see him playing a very dangerous role in their forward line.

We're struggling to make the floor buddy. We're overpaying someone for 3 year deal, by which time we'll want the cap space in all likelihood. We don't need the salary relief for next year.

You match, we probably trade 27 so all in all, there's no benefit.

We match and don’t trade and you lose a potential match winning 50 goal a season small forward.
