They have loads of room in their SC
And they will be going all out for Ben King an over he can’t refuse

Yeah, they haven't got many to pay big contracts to. Guys like Stringer are way past their big contract days. Even Parish signed a pretty modest contract.

I'm not sure Bassett has done that much wrong aside from not taking a firm stance earlier than he did. As a board member there's only so much you can control and you're not there to direct the show anyway.
All our current problems stem from who was in charge during the immediate post Lyon era. Waldron l think it was.

Salary cap stuffed
Dicked Ross around with his next contract
Moved us to Seaford
Appointed the Dwarf
Appointed the Pelican
Appointed Richo
Destroyed the club in total.

Finnis comes in.
Keeps Richo for ever and a day
Turns footy dpt into a social justice experiment
Extends Ratts

Finnis extended Ratts. Finnis.
Not Bassett

Lets see how they go now without Finnis.

Waldron was footy manager in the Blight & GT era.

Matthew Drain was around during RTB part 1.

Pelchen kinda ran everything for a while & pissed Ross off.

Then it was the Jamie Cox era (incoming St C in 3,2,1).

Archie Fraser (Seaford) & then Michael Nettlefold (losing Ross, appointing the Dwarf) were the CEOs when everything started to go to shit.

Finnis inherited the mess & got us back to Moorabbin. Made a blue on the Ratts extension but had a hugely positive influence on the club overall.

The socially responsible stuff that some get their knickers in a knot over was 100% necessary. We were corporate poison after Duthie & the Dwarf.

Finnis made us boring clean skins but built the foundation we now can build from.

Greg Westaway board that transitioned into power in about 2007 stuffed things up.

The two big mistakes were the two CEOs appointed at that time. Archie Fraser left the club in April 2009, after making a mess of it, then Michael Nettlefold was appointed where he made a complete mess of it until he left at the end of 2013.

Most of the damage was already done when Matt Finnis was appointed CEO in early 2014. Peter Summers was then President and it has been a slow climb back since.

So many poor decisions were made in the period 2008-2013. It wasn’t until 2011 though that our downward spiral gathered momentum that took us almost a decade to reverse. But yes, with hindsight ongoing mistakes were also made post-2013.

The three key pillars of a club are the President, Coach and CEO. As supporters I think most of us agree that we have now got the right President and Coach. If we have the right CEO then we should be heading towards success. Hopefully we have.

Bassat has been on the board since 2016.

Sacking an entire board when all they did was accept the CEO’s recommendation would be pretty drastic you’d think.

We’d probably be led by GTs dentist now [emoji33]

Bassat and the board are responsible for appointing and overseeing the CEO.

By all accounts bassat had enough at the back end of 2022 and started to get more hands on.

There were reports lethlean wanted to split the head of footy role where gags and rath were joint heads. That doesn't sound good at all.

Before lethers as ceo you had finnis. Sounds like you're not a fan of his work when it came to overseeing the football dept appointments.

Lethlean and Gubby would be advising the list moves still. Sos has come in blind as has Lyon.

I don’t Lethlean would be any more. Lyon and SOS are strong characters. I think they will be driving the strategy, with Toce and Roughead being allowed to do their thing at the draft table.

I really hope people regularly check your home for sharp implements, and remove them, mate. 😂

How was that negative? You guys are just scared of alternative points of view. I wasn't actually being facetious, I think they are actually looking at Shiel as an addition, not just as steak knives in a grand scheme. Could be a unique way of playing, scatter gun slingshot footy.

Finnis gets alot of credit but he was appauling for the on field. Which is the reason the club even exists.

Alot had changed that allowed the off-field to happen which people point to as a reason he was good.

For example moorabbin. We never wanted to leave. But we had to. There was absolutely no way we could remain and we had no funding available to redevelop it. If finnis was there when that decision was made the outcome would have been to relocate. The climate had changed significantly both at AFL level but also local and state government that allowed the funding to be secured.

I just don't get the fawning over him when the key drivers for that success were outside the club and resulted from a change of attitude.

I’m just playing with you, ya grumpy old DOINK!

Lyon and SOS have a pile of players that they have minimal idea of still. Billings, Coffield, Hayes, Jones, Membrey were all pretty much unplayed. There were rumours that Sharman was on the chopping block at the end of the season until he made the senior side and made himself valuable.

That's guys already at the club making calls you imagine. The hand over would have given the new crew the projections. That would be Gubby and Lethlean you imagine.

One thing about Bassat - am I wrong about this or his brother on the AFL Commission ?

All true but Finnis was an austerity operator and ran the footy department down so badly that even starting now we have to make up so much ground that it's like starting a race 30 meters behind everyone else. If the AFL hadn't heavily compensated the struggling clubs he would have been a disaster. One thing that I'd never seen in my whole time following the Saints was near empty stadiums. Even when we were shit in the 80s an 90s we still had people turn up. The product was so bad and hope so low it caused a mass drop off.

He wasn't the cause of all of it but he was a different type of terrible choice. The AFL has funded most other clubs so that we all have AFL standard facilities and I'm not sure the full attribution of Moorabbin can be given to Matt. At the ned of the day, anyone that wants to run a footy club needs to focus on building stable and successful side on field. He provided nearly nothing football department related.

Leathlean and Gubby are the 2 left from the Richo and Ratts area both need to be moved on. For fresh start I

Gubby a relic from the past that is not rated by anyone in the football industry anymore

One thing i do not understand.. If Bombers have so much room in thier Salary Cap, then why will Shiel earn a huge wage in his final year? Why wouldnt they have front loaded?

Maybe they have space moving forward but have not had so much space the past few years?

If he does end up with us I will be hoping he adds to our midfield , he only has to play more than 3 games to be more value than Jones.
We still need more midfield talent brought in , Ross is on his last year of his contract and I fully expect him only to be rotated through the midfield sparingly with Windhager , Owens and Dow if he joins and Phillipou.

Shiel would help with the load we put on the kids.

Pelchen quit the Hawks in 2011.
Did he send spam emails to Ross to piss him off?
