His consistency around his ball winning ability is a little bit of a question, but he's always a goal threat and looks dynamic.
Would be a great cheap option to replace Gresham and let Hotton mature a bit more in the 2's.

Playing as a small forward in the VFL is just about the hardest role to shine in. I rate state league small forwards much higher than mids because you rely so much on others to get fed. Plenty of gun afl level small forwards struggle to score freely when they go back down.

If we don't get 1 or 2 of these young mids getting not games at other clubs , we need to find someway to get into the top 5 of the draft - it is vital we go all out to fix our midfield.
I don't care how they do it just get it done.

I'm past Gresham he has been at the club for 8 yrs and he has shown he is only a rotation through the midfield at best and if we have to pick Shiels wage for a year fine , that will give us 2 picks in the first round and possibilities of a higher upgrade.

What is the knock on this guy. Not drafted or rookied. What are his limitations? Speed, disposal, can only play one position?

Saw Bytel absolutely destroy Essendon two's one day, never looked like replicating it in the AFL.

Some players are slow to develop, Sharman, Wilkie are two, Hammer not on a list etc. May just be that.

Does anyone have some intel on this bloke?

This is what makes Higgins a standout , he scores

72 Hit Outs! That is insane! Is that orrect?

Yeah, I think so. He seemed to get leather poisoning. Werribee didn't seem to have a proper dominant ruck by the look of it. He's been excellent in every game I've seen him play in regardless. He looked pretty good against Marshall early in the year in the seniors too.

In the previous three weeks he's had 49 48 49 in the lead up to today.

Nah, we just live in hope that they can spot talent when it is on display in front of them.

I imagine that our Big 3 were there as they are interested in a Suns player. With all 3 there I cannot imagine they went without having a particular player, or players, in mind as a trade target/draft target. Hollands the likely one.

But with a game like he had today they might just do some extra homework on Mannagh.
Yep. It’s just SOS and Gubby’s jobs…. But Lyon there is of some interest. Hopefully we trade in 7 vfl’ers because Joffa wants them real bad.

We need him instead of Campbell

Doesn't know how to make his bed properly

Bed making skills should be one of the first things they test at the draft combine.

That will sort the wheat from the chaff, who cares about how fast they can run or high they can jump, if they can't make a bed it's a pass.

As long as you don’t shlt the bed

Not sure where those stats are from, but on AFL/VFL they have Moyle with 73 HO‘s (so maybe)
& judging by the fantasy points one would think Werribee won by the length of the Flemington straight.

It was that site. They must have updated their stats as they are slightly different.

If he came as a salary dump for basically zero draft pick cost, I actually don't mind it as a concept.

He's no superstar, but he is basically zac jones- but better and able to get on the park.

Our midfield setup with crouch and steele has always looked very damaging on the rare occasions where zippy guys like gresh and/or jones are in and fit+firing.

I think getting a guy like shiel in would make crouch and steele better players- it would be a triple benefit.
As such, I'd be ok with paying shiel ~800k a year of monopoly/salary cap money for a few years if he came for stuff all draft pick cost
I have read this, but I still find it bonkers the Saints are going down this path. It will take a position from a younger player in the midfield. He might have some value playing as a sub. Will it help the Saints get a better draft pick compensation for Gresham? No guarantee the AFL will allow it. The age profile just does not fit.

Post our loss to GWS I was struck by the comments Ross made about aiming for the long term. He even quoted Gill in giving him that advice.

They can’t look to the long term just trundling along with the draft picks we have, and missing out again on Free Agents and good trades.

I am not advocating it but moving out top players who may not be there in 3/4 years when we really might contend may not be out of the question. Depends what we get back. That’s why I wouldn’t discount Steele going.

Would have to be good. But if it was? I would do it. Bad short term, but I don’t think that is what is in mind. Who else? Gresham, Howard, Clark?

I would be surprised if we do nothing left field.
I think Steele being floated to bring in a top 5 pick. Someone like Norf or WC who could do with a player that can still get the ball but also provide that leadership on the field.

Ross comments about building slowly, the fact the Tassie team in coming in a few years and that’s going to smash the talent coming for a few years.

The club knows if we don’t recruit top young talent this year and next year we are cooked for another decade.

That means making tough calls on players who might not be the ones to take us to a premiership but have the value to bring the talent that can.

Expect more changes to come, I’m sure of it.

He was really good in a big game. Was easily their best mid when a lot of the others had s**t games. Moyle is a gun too. Possibly the best ruck beside Sweet in the VFL.

I really don't get why he'd want to go to the blues other than his brother playing there. He'll be the new Dow playing on the fringes of the AFL side. He'd be much better off with us.

Gold Coast would ask for a first rounder though.

Gubby a relic from the past that is not rated by anyone in the football industry anymore
Gubby doesn’t appear to have achieved anything of note since being at the Saints , even though he may well have tried. Time to move him on. Why can’t we get a Callaghan to want to return to the bayside. We don’t need broken down rejects , we need game changers. (Unless it’s a Bowes type deal with great pick)

What year do the Tasmanian concessions kick-in to the National Draft?
