Christ, we are linked to every overpaid old bastard in the league at the moment 😅
Season 5 No GIF by The Office

Lobb is a bit spuddy but he did lead Freo's scoring in his final year and he can actually ruck at a decent standard. He's probably the best actual ruck forward available. You would rather not pay his wage though.

Isnt that what i said? Not being a smart ass i might be missing something here.
Probably but I haven't read the whole exchange.

I'm just reckon that any talk of a pick above a 3rd rounder for Shiel would have to involve Essendon paying all his salary for next year (and the following) and even then I'd be jumpy about it.

Could do a lot worse. The good thing about dealing with GC is that they aren't as desperate to win in every trade.

You'd also have good look at Chris Burgess too. He's primarily a forward for them but has had decent hit out stats when needed to fill in at VFL level. Topped the VFL scoring and looks like he'd walk in to a lot of sides that need a tall forward.

I wonder if Moyle can play forward as well. Pick their carcass.
Chol is higher ceiling but also way way way lower floor. If he didnt work under Dimma im not sure he would under Ross?

Burgess seems like a real Ross contributor.

Having said that, cant really see either of them being on our radar.

I must be taking crazy pills but I reckon Shiel would walk into our midfield and improve it. I'd only take him if it's a freebie, at his age he's worth nothing but he's not dogshit. He can be a good option for us IF he's fit and IF he's free.

He would for sure but it's fools gold. Too old, too injury prone, too overpaid. He's taking a spot off a player who is going to build cohesion and synchronicity with his team mates. If we aren't going for a flag next year we would be better giving Windhager an inside mid role and playing him there.

I'd rather use Gresham's compo on a guy like Demattia and have him building up on the list than some old guy taking a precious list spot off others for a few spot upgrade on Gresham's compo. The player we get there might end up better than what we traded up to get anyway. It's a pretty even draft between about 8 and 20.

That argument is gets used often but it really has no legs in my view.
All those father sons and academy selections weren’t available to you guys anyway so it’s still pick 19 or 19th best available player selected. You can’t actually think Gresham is worth a first round pick.. just like Shiel isn’t worth a first round pick, Gresham is worth a early second at best - which is exactly what you would using for him. It’s completely fair
Every supporter base biasly values their players more than what they are.

Every single news station on it says you guys don’t want to keep him.. so I’m absolutely calling your bluff haha. You only say that because Ross plays his poker face well in the media that all of a sudden use are keen to keep him.
Time will tell

Gresham is absolutely worth pick 13 in exactly the same way that North are claiming that Ben McKay is worth pick 3.

We all don’t like the system, as Gillon admitted on Brownlow night it’s far from perfect.

So stop trying to rationalise what is fair. Just pay up what you think Gresham will jump for.

I think someone said Adelaide were chasing him as a KPB.

Lol, all good.

To me the options (and i dont even rank them cause i think they all make sense in their own way.

1- Essendon gets Gresh at $800k and 2nd or 3rd or swaps (or whatever just not 1st) rounder. We get Band 1, Shiel at $1m a year.
2- Essendon gets Gresh at $700k. We get Band 2.
3- We keep Gresh

There might be some other variations (we swap 13 and something for their 8) but any scenario where we end up with Shiel and no first rounder is idiotic.

Sam Edmund saying Dow to Stkilda is not a certainty

I can't believe that I'm getting nervous that Paddy Dow won't get done. We are running a super thin midfield if he doesn't. Maybe that gets games into kids that pays off more than desperation appointments anyway. Maybe we get a George Stevens with his trade pick who's better anyway.

Plus pick 13 which is where we picked up Naz from.

Don't think it is butting heads, we get an extra high FRDP.
I am not really keen on Sheil, 31, on the down side of his career, a big disappointment at Essendon, but we have the weakest mids in the League and he will be able to get games, maybe even contribute for a couple of years.
Would not be unhappy to keep Gresh either.

yeah true, but that Naz pick was originally 8. Pushed out to 13 through draft concessions and father son picks

Maybe we have something better lines up

Yes I tend to agree. The pick 13 compo was only worthwhile if we could leverage it to get into top 5.
If that was viable we take a bite of the s.hit sandwich that is Sheil and do it. You are correct could take a younger players spot, however we are weak in the mids, and injuries really tests our depth.
Anyway don't think band 1 flies, do we keep Gres or just take an end of first round and do what you suggest.
We may be able to get a frdp from trading Howard or someone.

All that was asked is Fisher to North a certainty and he said it's not a certainty, then it was Dow to St Kilda a certainty and he repeated himself. Exit meetings are ongoing this week at Carlton.

Grab Jeka for free IMO.

Has talent, just needs a clean run at it.

Our game style is based on losing the midfield though, win it back on half back. Be great to be competitive there though!

Exactly. If Essendon want Gresh then make him an offer and well decide what works for us. The whole Shiel dump/Band 1 compo thing is really just making the Gresh deal more attractive for us than anything else.
Cant say i understand that logic personally but sure, go nuts Crowbots.

It would be hilarious if McKay don't trigger a band 1 compo - heartbreaking for North supporters who seem to hate us because they're a total s**t show with part-time assistant coaches because they've spent their soft-cap on Clarko.

They've gone from expecting pick 2, 3 Sanders plus another potential top 10 pick I think they were asking to pick 2, a couple of end-of-firsts this year and then next year. If I was a skeptic, I'd say that the AFL are giving them enough to be perceived to help whilst helping setup the business case for the Tasmanian Kangaroos.

That said, for both McKay and Gresham, at band 2, for both clubs, are you looking to match and potentially trade to get what you want back?

This could go very wrong for Essendon you know, potentially not getting any of their desired targets, and I ******* love it.
You talk as though tha AFL isn't orchestrating the entire thing.

You talk as though tha AFL isn't orchestrating the entire thing.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the headline about McKay potentially not triggering band 1 compo was bullshit leaked from the AFL, in an attempt to put out the fires lit by Scott and Lyon when they criticised the North compo.

yep - agree entirely. We are the ones holding the cards.

Its interesting that there has been nothing out of Essendon saying that Shiel is a wanted player.

So its either cap reasons or Shiel has been told he's not starting 22 anymore. Either way - it just decreases his trade value even more.

one comment from a blues fan says essendon right into hollands, even saw him on a predicted team lineup for next season,if anything in that they may not be so keen to lose the likes of dow and fisher or certainly both

cant see other clubs chasing them too hard
