Any idea if that is Leo Barry's kid playing in the backline?
Suspect you’re spot on there Isaac Barry. Not sure he had much of a look in last season.
Fairly certain he’s a 19 YO (or will be this year) over-ager via perhaps Balwyn JFC & Marcellin.

Is there any F/S links for him ?
Not aware who his Dad is, however that hyphenated name sure has some major AFL pedigree…
Russell Davey (brother of Alwyn (twin) and Aaron) and Lauren Motlop (sister of Daniel and Steven) are Waylon's parents. Funnily enough, both Alwyn and Aaron are living and playing in Queensland these days. Alwyn is with the Robina Roos on the Gold Coast and Aaron is the player-coach up for the Cairns City Lions. Waylon's cousins on Alwyn's side are Alwyn Jr and Jayden who are currently listed by Essendon and Aaron's son Marley is apparently a junior star who the Dees are already eyeing him off as a father-son prospect, but I think he's also eligible to join the Suns academy. On the Motlop side his cousin Jesse is currently playing for Carlton. Two more Motlop uncles in Marlon and Shannon also had brief stints in the AFL.

So many AFL connections but Waylon is surprisingly not tied to any club, with the possible exception of the Suns academy through the Darwin zone.

Now that is an extremely thorough & well informed family connection review & analysis - bravo sir !

Get the Coates League app. All the games are shown there..no commentary though

Won't get the attention it deserves but Leo Lombard had 28 touches playing onball in the VFL GC v Richmond game today. Don't think there are any 17 year olds in the country putting up numbers like that in such a high level competition.

George Stevens did last year, Lombard looked very comfortable at the level today but wouldn’t mind if he was used in a few different roles to get him ready for senior football next year. Will be tough going breaking into that midfield

Hey eDPS are there any stats and/or write up anywhere on todays Sandy game. Looked everywhere I could today, and all I could find was the final score.

Probably time for James Barrat to come into draft consideration. James kicked 3 goals and 5 behinds yesterday and was clunking everything in the air.
He had some problems with his set shot kicking with the breeze at Learmonth but if his radar starts working he'll be kicking big bags.

Payne was close last year so probably is the prime candidate. Dean is a very good chance, as is Depaoli-Kubank and Lenny Douglas, who tested well. An outsider is Max Roney. He's a natural runner and is a strong rower, which helps with endurance and made a TSL debut at 16. Outside of Tasmania at Sandy is Nathan Sulzberger. So we do have some contenders before anyone does a Leake and bolts.

In 2025, the three Launceston boys in Wooton, Thomas and Smedley have my attention. Wooton is strong in the midfield and Smedley has a great footy resume with his achievements at his junior club. I could see him playing for the Devils AFL side one day if he makes it. I'm mates with him and his brother. Thomas has an athletics background, like Chugg. Debuted in the TSL and went well. He's big for his age which helps. Humble kid by all reports. It also seems Toby Callow may have returned to Tasmania and would be in this class.

A lot of these boys have played school and/or club footy together on top of rep games so are quite close which helps drive and build their performances.
Toby Callow (2025 class) is playing for Tasmania, studying and representing his school in Tasmania. He’s also playing for Norwood in the SANFL when he can. Literally has a brother in SA. Would have thought he could just move in rather than fly around so much.

Geordie Payne is now the one I’d feel the most confident in being picked up. Tassie’s brand, according to a mate of mine, is all about pressure, not so much keys. They were undersized against Murray and look like that’s how they’ll play. In for a long season but Payne should do well as he suits the set-up.

Camporeale twins had 31 and 34 possessions in the Sanfl under 18s last weekend.

Any keen SANFL followers have an idea whether they would be a shot at the Glenelg senior team any time soon?

Young Toby had a go at settling into SA last year. Enrolled at St Peter’s College, played some 16’s with Norwood.

He was cut from SA state team selection very early which was a bit of a surprise because he’d shown some pretty good form, and then ended up with some injury. All in all things didn’t quite work out and the Tassie program had him on the radar. So he went back.

Very close to his brother which would explain hopping back here regularly.

That probably explains why he’d return to Tassie and fly out to play the occasional SANFL game. The TSL is folding in 2025 anyway so it makes sense for him to do it if he can. Norwood has some strong links to Tasmania on top of Jacko.

His family also probably wants to avoid what happened to Jacko, although the leading reason is one that can be worked on.

Still one to keep and eye on. His first 6 rounds of U16 last season elite. Ending up with 18 possessions 7 marks and 5 goals in a game.

Crazy he was out of SA calculations at the first cut. No idea what they were thinking!

Zaydyn Lockwood comfortably beat Jack Whitlock today and kept him really quiet in the Bushrangers vs Pioneers game. Didn't allow Whitlock any space to mark in the forward line. Josh Murphy, however was excellent for the Bushrangers again as was Joe Berry.
For the Pioneers outside of Lockwood, Dayten Uerata, (two goals and available in the mid-season draft) and Tobie Travaglia were excellent. Travaglia is such a fantastic mark for a slightly built back flanker.
Jobe Shanahan was a threat all game and kicked 4 goals and James Barrat (after not having a touch in the first half) was the difference in the last quarter kicking 3 goals.
The Pioneers won this game by 2 points.

Looks like Crows F/S prospect Tyler Welsh had a slow start to his SANFL season today with just five disposals against South Adelaide. For context, South Australia finished second last in the SANFL last year. Obviously early days but he'll have to show more than that if he wants to maintain his status as a potential top 10 pick this year.
