I don't think Gardiner has played enough games forward for us to get a clear indication if he could play that role.
However, coming back from an ACL at age 29 is a bit of a worry.
He can also play a defensive role on certain opposition defenders if needed
He played 7 games early in the year, 2 of those he left early with knee injuries in Q1 & Q2.
So really only 5 games to get a look at what he can do forward.
He was also trying to fit into a new role in a team whose form was not good in those early games.

R0 11 disposals 0 marks 2 tackles 0 goals.0 behinds. Moved to Curnow in the 4th quarter
R1 injured his knee in the 1st quarter (warning sign for things to come maybe?)
R2 & 3 missed due to knee injury
R4 11 disposal 5 marks 1 tackle 1g.1b
R5 13 disposals 6 marks 3 tackles 0g.0b
R6 10 disposals 4 marks 3 tackles 0g.0b
R7 5 disposals 0 marks 4 tackles 0g.0b. Appeared to play a defensive game on Aleer.
R8 3 disposals 0 marks 0 tackles 2g. 0b. Did his ACL in 2nd quarter
It wasn't his stats that I was looking at.

It was guys running off him and the opportunities he fluffed by being too slow to react and recognise opportunities.

It wasn't as if we didn't dish it up to him on a plate at times.

Maybe Taberner for insurance if we're bone dry for any trading. If Hipwood blows a groin again then we'll be reaching

The player has to want to come here.

Not sure uprooting your life to move to the other side of the country, to get a minimum afl wage, to be an insurance player is particularly appealing.

Is there a point in the draft where you don’t need points to match and can just match an academy kid?
You'd still need points to match a bid if another team chose an academy player very late in the draft. Or, if we have a pick that comes up late in the draft, we can just draft that Academy player - i.e. Harris Andrews at Pick 61 in 2014

Same; will be super stoked with the trifecta of Ashcroft, Marshall and Gallop.

I could be wrong but if he’s bid on in the 3rd round and we still have a deficit of 300 points we can still draft Gallop or Gillett if we choose to

I think we need to ask the question to Liam McBean

kicked 7.0 to win SANFL grand final this year
202cm / 96kg
55 goals this year, been a 40 to 50 goal forward for the last 6-7 years
Looks like closest replacement to Daniher's role from the next tier

Don't mind that idea, he is 30 years old but you would assume he would have a good 2-3 years of his best footy in him.... a stop gap while Morris, Lloyd and Gallop develop.

Do we know if has nominated for the draft?

Whilst I’m confident enough with a plan of covering Joe with what we have, I think there is a significant over estimation of what that will look like, coming on the back of our finals charge.

You don’t take a 68 goal, 21 disposal forward/ruck out of a side, not replace them, and cover it with Dizzy Gardiner or Darcy Fort.

We will have to settle for what we have to work with for 2025, I get that, my guess is we will be putting significant work into a big fish for the year after.

Still could absolutely up- end us, especially if Hipwood suffers an injury.

So close, he's the same age

He was great at flying for marks as third forward when no one paid attention to him.

Once it twigged that it's worth putting some effort into it, any body contact renders him irrelevant.
Sounds like Hipwood before Murray Davis spent some time with him.

The irony.

Yep, I agree - except a bit on Fort up forward, but that's really neither here nor there.

We have to use somebody who isn't Joe, and that is more than just personnel - it must also be accommodated within a (slightly?) different system. With that said, given the market offerings are slim, an internal appointment would to me seem preferable, as you are dealing with more of a known quantity, and the differences between the options appear to be within a few points of each other. Essentially, different sauce, same meat.....Joe was different meat :D

If we still had Tom Fullarton, would he come straight in as a Daniher replacement?
That thought also crossed my mind the other day when Harry Sharp requested a trade to the Dees... straight swap?

I don't think it is any chance of happening, the Full Cream boat has been tried and it has sailed.

You can keep going further into deficit up to a maximum of the point value of the picks you hold the following year. Matching any bid after pick 55 or so is free anyway, because the discount is greater than the pick value.

Could be wrong but I think it's the article from McClure about Oliver cleaning out his locker at the Dees.

Good stuff, it's always good to clean up clutter from time to time.
He can come back to use his super clean locker next year.

I knew that Joe and Liam were lifelong friends but it wasn’t until someone mentioned Liam earlier today that I just googled their names and randomly found that video but I’d not seen it prior to today.

Interesting, lifelong friends too were they? Almost feels like Daniher vacated his spot for his mate, wanting him to have a go at glory in 2025.

That's what i figured i really hope we draft both Gellett and Gallop for development in the VFL
