Still coming down from a GF win and then Jo leaving.
Have not thought much about trades till today.
The club may have someone in mind that wants to come to Brisbane.
How they get that done i have no idea, but we are a destination club now.
Normally when you lose a great player to another club you get something in return
Jo retiring (good on him) gives us nothing unfortunately.

Don't want Lewis at all. Doubt he leaves the Hawks anyhow.
No suggestions because of lack of picks.
A swap of player/players may get us someone suitable.

I'm sure Harris could play as a tall forward but the two pillars of our flag this year have been Andrews in the backline and Daniher in the forward line. We've built the rest of the team around that. So with Daniher gone we have to rejig that area , I wouldn't risk potentially messing up both by taking Harris out of the backline. He directs all our traffic down there.

I could see Payne as a potential forward , but with Payne ,Andrews, Starcevich and Wilmot for starters in your backline and Coleman potentially returning ,a great footy brain in Lester , strong lockdown junkyard dog in Answerth , and btw an AA defender in Zorko , we have a dream team there that could continue to deliver flags. So no way would I be disrupting any of that.

Idea I’ve been turning over in my head is that we can get improvement out of a consistent defensive group - that can then turn intercepts into really good looks for our forwards. I think that’s the better path than hoping any single player can replace Joe.

Kiddy adds a different running and kicking dimension to the group which helps that.

I think we are markedly worse taking Harris out of the back 6 given how his intercept marking generates scores. Really, it’s a break glass in case of emergency when we are down late in games only.

I take your point Martinson re Harris as General, but i reckon that in the immediate term the collective footy brains of Zorko, Lester and hopefully Coleman/Doedee would do the job.

We can win games from our back half with the players we have there whoever we have on our list in the forward line. Within reason.

Your defence is crucial in big games. They absorbed a lot of pressure when we were just about out for the count this year. I think they can get better.

‘possibly’ a young Logan Morris may need…, I did say Possibly…as our 2nd tall forward.

Don’t need to try to change defenders into forwards out of desperation…. Or have to l play Fort who’s a ruck and not a FF.

Keep it simple…maybe 3 talls… Morris Hippy…and a trade…or maybe just Morris/hippy, and Rayner/Linc/kai/Ah chee play tall.

Draft night 2011. I was very hopeful that the Lions would take Adam Tomlinson pick 8. A mobile CHF.

Instead we take Billy Longer and GWS take Tomlinson next pick at 9.

Call me crazy, I know he’s played AFL largely as a defender, but could he play CHF for the Lions with Hipwood FF.

Just a thought.

Still remember this. Had outdated recruiter think at the time of just drafting rucking talls with our first pick thinking that miraculously solves all KPP issues. Drafted some absolute spuds years before like Spanderman, Cameron wood and then still drafted Leunberger lol. Then went for Longer instead of Tomlinson.

In saying that we nailed sam docherty and elliot yeo in that draft, shame rocky and pearce used to bully them so they left.

Jonathan Brown kicked 5 goals in his first 13 games.

He's under contract and likely unavailable, but I'd hope we're asking GWS about Jake Riccardi if we're going to look externally for a Daniher replacement.

Jo has kicked 60 odd goals just about every year. If Smith has the year Morris has just had we'd all be over the moon. Morris kicked 24 goals, less than half Jo's. It's unreasonable to expect Henry to get anywhere near Jo's output.

Ollie Lord, Samson Ryan, Lynch, Fogarty. We can pick up on of these with next years first. If not we play Smith and need a Day or someone of that ilk to play VFL and come in as backup in the event of injury.

I believe what Dom hinted at, said player was on the hook for the 2025 trade and free agency period.

There’s no doubt there will be a plan in place and internally this has been known about for at least 12 months.

Going to be interesting to see how this plays out. Some of the speculation is entertaining and some mind numbing.

With the emergence of Kai, Ah Chee and Rayner as genuine stars we have the best small/medium forward set up in the league. Our game plan of dissecting teams through uncontested marking means we are now less reliant on tall forwards than ever.

Either replace Joe with Linc or play Oscar and Fort with the job being to purely bring the ball to ground inside 50 and let the smalls go to work.

This will also strengthen our clearance work with two genuine gun rucks having less fatigue.

Can guarantee without Joe we will see more marking from the medium sized brigade.

I think you've been sucked in by our GF performance. We won't be taking 158 marks every week

Only need to go back 2 weeks earlier to see how important Joe was

Plus we know Oscar usually rucks better when he takes the majority of the ruckwork

I think some under estimating how important Joe's role was and over estimating what we currently have on our list to fill the role. Sounds as though something is cooking. Perhaps Chrissy will come early for a second time this year!

I’m not setting my expectations higher than 30+ goals and competing hard in the air. Frankly if he can just avoid being outmarked that would be a big win.

We’ve gotta be prepared to see Morris regress next year. Particularly if he’s getting better defenders. Henry Smith looks a likely type so I can see him doing a job and getting better as the year progresses. If he can clink marks he will kick 30+ goals in the year if he plays 20 games.

Yeah I think a few in here and especially in the media are underestimating just how important Joe was to us.

Would any of the options raised internally or externally have been able to take that mark on Taylor to win the game for us? It would be unfair to expect that, but it’s highlighting the type of match winner we’re looking at replacing here.

Throwing a ruckman forward hoping for the best or hoping a 2nd year under size key forward can perform miracles, could open us up to disaster imo.

That’s not even taking into consideration any injuries, which are par for the course and will hit at some stage.

Club will have a plan though.
