Highly unlikely he’ll leave…would’ve thought he’s a restricted free agent

Doubt we’ve got a list spot available
To be an RFA he has to be in the top 25% of earners on the Saints list. I doubt he's in that bracket b/c his position in the side was quite uncertain until a couple of years ago, so we would have signed him relatively cheaply. Almost certainly a UFA.

After RTB V2.0 got appointed, some poster on here was justifying the appointment on the basis that in two years we would know whether we have a good list or not.
On the assumption that RTB V2.0 is a good coach.
Not considering that we might have a bad list AND a bad coach.

How’s that going?

Could do worse than offload Marshall for a 1st Round Pick.

Meek just as serviceable.
Marshall's dump kicks forward are direct turnovers 2/3 the time. Must have happened 6 times today against the Hawks.

Great player but not getting any younger and not an impossible position to replace if you have the commitment of a Meek-type before pulling the trigger

Nah the masses want him to stay for the full duration. Games like this don’t matter, all about the process, proud

The midfield is bottom 4.

The time to look ahead to future years is looming, not sure historically how many clubs turn this kind of footy form around within 1 year.

Need to lock Battle in and find the future replacements of aging players in key positions.

Marshall either needs a genuine backup or we should look for another full time ruck if we want to pursue the 1 ruckman game. Will be over 30 in a couple years and will need his time resting forward.

And we need to do all that while finding a competitive midfield, s**t spot to be in tbh

Arie down back. Battle forward

Exactly, remember Marshall was a key back/forward before, so was never a ruckman in the juniors.. that’s why has poor ruck craft..

Invest in a genuine ruck, genuine mids who hunts and gets the ball first, then can absorb the pressure to dish off to an outside teammate

North and Hawks midfields will be elite in the next 2 years. We are an outlier. We are the only side in footy that refuses to draft mids. In the age of midfielders we have stubbornly chased HBFs and wings and then play them out of position and wonder what went wrong. We were meant to be building a spine first and still haven't got that right either.

We have a ruck that is good at clearance work but can't tap to advantage and the worst midfield in footy. We need something to change. That might be easiest but knowing us we'd turn him into a diabetic HBF with go home factor.

Worth a try. It is a small sample size but Battle has looked better than our other tall forwards this year

Battle back was a ******* Richo move. He came as an electric Jack Gunston clone and that clown turned him into a dour third tall back. In his all star game he was easily the best forward on the ground.

I actually thought about that during the game as well but I think someone on here somewhere was saying Arie isnt there defensively yet and Battle is fairly reliable next to Wilkie. I'm no track watcher so just go off what others say.
The odds of us making finals is almost nothing. Pull the Band-Aid off now and try something different

In terms of game style, we can try to play like Hawthorn, Collingwood run and gun style, the truth is we don’t have the cattle to pull it off. So, in order to be competitive whilst we rebuild, this dour defensive style is the interim solution. But my word is this ugly. Same ugly style under Richo and Ratten, with a bit more gut running thrown in.

Ross seemed pretty pissed in his post match. I think he wants to take the game on and how we performed was reflection of the game plan
