Training 2024 Preseason reports and discussion

If you play well / win your preseason honours, you go into Rd 1 confident - that you can continue that output.

If you don’t play well / win you go into Rd 1 hopeful - that you can improve quickly.

That’s about all it is.

At this stage we are all hopeful of an improved performance next week which is good enough to knock off the Bombers.

Not sure I agree. It really depends what the coaching objectives were going into the preseason games.

In pre-season games, the objective is not necessarily to win, rather to practice and hone specific processes and systems that will serve in the season proper.

If you’re Collingwood, Brisbane, Melbourne, etc. yep - experiment and who cares the result - given how strong the club already is.

If you’re a bottom 4 side from the previous year, you’re aiming to play well in these matches.

To suggest we were just mucking around with players / ideas and can flick the switch for Rd 1 ignores the state of our list / club.

I must have misinterpreted the public announcements by the club over the past 3 months.

Where has anyone said we would/could flick a switch ? Or were mucking around ?
Big difference between that and seeing what may and may not work in prep for the real stuff .

Only the coaches actually know , all of us are just educated guessing at best .
If people think we experimented a bit , thats actually not unreasonable given the games are not worth points .

Anyone hear anything out of Box Hill’s practice match?

None of the Hawthorn listed players played. We had 4 young kids from Gippsland Power get a debut game yesterday. We were up by 8 at half time but lost by 4 goals I believe. Great learning for the Box Hill listed players.
