Our inability to land players later in the draft has been a major factor in us being bottom two for the last four years.

So if historically we struggle to hit picks in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th round, wouldn’t it makes more sense to use one of those picks to get a known commodity in Daniel’s?

Now in saying all this, I dont actually want Daniels. What he gives us I’m not actually sure we need. But he is good at the role he plays.

Where my head space is, if we do pick him up and use pick 25, I’m not going to treat it like we have given up the chance to a draft a definite 150 game player. I’m gonna treat it like we have given up a pick not in the first round

Don’t think we’ll be trading our pick 2.

Carlton wouldn’t have made the choice to trade for pick 3 if they weren’t confident of getting the draftee that they want. So that probably means that Richmond, North & Carlton are locked in as to who they want and I reckon those 3 clubs know because they’ve been talking to each other.

Is Barrett ******ed?

Claiming that the deal West Coast did with Carlton was ok because it positions them well next year, then reels off next years capital which is all their own and a maybe future for Barrass.

I reckon WC fans could rightfully be feeling pretty gaslit by pundits' response to that trade.

Blues tried to get 2 but settled for 3

Still expecting tigers to come for 2

I hear ya Air Jordan. My preference is for us to get better at those picks.

Carlton have traded up for FOS. Who is also the cousin of Sam Walsh.

Far easier to get to #2 if we did intend to take FOS there from #3, than it is elsewhere.

I wouldn't blame our entire history of being unable to develop a lot of 2nd and 3rd round pick players on the current recruitment staff.

But it would help if the players we focused on with later round picks weren't 5-7 year physical long-term developmentally handicapped. It just takes us too long to get someone up to speed.

Sounds like Port got absolutely fleeced in the Houston trade, because Houston only wanted to go to a big Vic club.

Schadenfreude.

On draft night, they can trade up to pick 2 for a small fortune if they like.

Yes, was part of the point.

Also, if Richmond want him to pair with Lalor (if that is the direction they go) vs Draper or even Langford etc, we hold some leverage there.

Pick 2 is not something we should be giving up unless it favors the NMFC.

Particularly if Victorian clubs are making the Vic midfielders a priority.

Agreed. Do not trade 2 or F1 for anyone or any pick. We are trading away a Sheezel, a Wardlaw or a McKercher if we do that. And we get back what exactly? An AA player with 4-5 years left in his career?

Let me ask this: would anyone prefer

Houston

over

J Smith
Lalor
O'Sullivan
Armstrong
Tauru
or the 2025 equivalent?

A high quality player with 4 to 5 years left at the top level versus a high quality player with 10-12 years left at the top level? It's nonsense to suggest the former option is better.

Take 2 to the draft and take F1 to next years' draft. Please.

Every draft is different. Outside of Ashcroft, I'm not confident there's a Sheezel, Wardlaw or McKercher in this draft. I've seen people say that if McKercher was in this draft, he would go pick 1.

God I wasted so much time posting about Houston and how he'd be great for us today. Such a shame to find out he's a shit player and would have been detrimental to Hardeman & Goater's development like this
