I generally agree with this - although the long term health outcomes of concussions might be more serious than those of consuming processed meats. (Bet I’m about to be told otherwise).

But neither of us are qualified in this area so I’ll finish by saying I very much hope that Murphy is fit to play on, and that he doesn’t suffer the consequences in his post-footy life that others have in his position.

Studies suggest processed meats are carcinogenic. Cancer versus dementia - not sure which is more desirable.

The issue is that the Robbo's of the world jump on a headline and just run with it. A study suggests more than 3 concussions increases the risk of dementia - ban anyone with 3 concussions. A study suggests that processed meats are carcinogenic - ban processed meats - it's the same mentality. There's no looking for further study or expert analysis to break down the increased risks into their likelihood of occuring - the risk versus reward - So decisions are jumped to and pushed by Robbos way too quickly - even if we were in favour of life choices being taken away from the individual for their own good (assuming that maximising longevity is in their own good). It's just a trigger response to a headline "finding" from a study.

Absolutely, as the same argument can clearly be made for Brayshaw but not a mention.

Robbo no longer willing to drive to work because there is a risk in getting behind the wheel, about which no-one should be permitted to make a rational decision.

I remember posting the exact same thing about Murphy and was heavily criticized.

Him playing on is extremely dangerous for his long term health

You’re citing Robbo as evidence of the legitimacy of your standpoint?

Of all the summer AFL announcements, the December 20 missive that declared the AFL’s concussion panel had passed Murphy to play in 2024, was the most ASTONISHING."
I found it astonishing too, but if you’re not going to lend a very significant amount of weight to the findings of a panel of experts, then why have the panel of experts?

Not sure Robbo really trusts medical advice. He doesn't appear to have listened to the docs who would have told him to clean up his act after his massive heart attack.

At the end of the day, Murphy and his parents chose for him to play on.

He & his family are no doubt more aware & informed about the potential consequences of that decision than any of us.

I respect his choice.

Like everyone, we hope no player suffers any injury or concussion. But the reality is whilst it's a contact sport, there will be injuries & concussions.

Hopefully Nathan has a long & successful career & life 🙏

I just posted it.

Even if you agree in principle with what Robbo is saying, he has written it in such a way that it's just yet another pre-season critique of the Collingwood Football Club instead of genuine care for a player's wellbeing.
We know it is a dig at Collingwood specifically being Robinson but validity of what he says does not alter the facts of his article. I must admit I was surprised he was passed fit to play on and then decided to play on himself.

Of course Robinson named Murphy but he should have also named Brayshaw and MaCartin but Robbo being who he his could not resist a dig. Paddy of course has already retired but he should have been able to come back and play which showed it was the wrong decision to come back anyway.

Brayshaw of course did have series of headknocks earlier in his career but has been alright in recent seasons till getting knocked by Bruzzy accidently,Murphy had a few incidents last season and had a problem pre season also which seemedto me hardly anything compared to what may happen when the real stuff starts.

I hope like hell Nathan gets through the season unscathed but with his history I would not be surprised if he did not.

Considering the study he hung his article on suggested that anyone with 3 concussions (even mild ones) in their lifetime should be counselled about the risks of continuing contact sport - his article should have been focussing on a pretty decent percentage of AFL players.

I think you only need to look at boxers and I love boxing but the damage done is life changing in some cases. This is not like getting stiff joints later in life it can change your life drastically and something we should take every chance to stop it occurring even if does not please everyone.

You're kidding right?

They're mates.

Jordy and Nick facing away from each other and not hugging or even holding hands.
Confirmed Beams vs Barham MKII.

You're experiencing footy withdrawal symptoms.

I've heard charges is being pressed. We are sending Jordy back to the VFL for touching the savior.

At what point do we trade one of them after this irreparable fracture in the relationship?
Once Jordy hits 33 and becomes injury prone we’ll let him go to the saints as a free agent, and we’ll get band 1 compo. Because we all know how much the saints love bringing in injury prone mids on enormous contracts.
